Hey, Gossip Girl fans! What did you think of the highly anticipated '80s time warp on this week's episode? Do you think it can work as a spinoff? My first reaction is lukewarm. Don't get me wrong: I love '80s music, clothes, and Andrew McCarthy as much as the next gal, and learning about young Lily is totally fascinating. But for some reason, those flashbacks didn't do as much as I thought they would for me.

Which is fine. Shows can improve over time. But as the episode progressed, I started to feel resentful of the flashbacks, and then . . . angry. I couldn't figure out where these strong emotions were coming from, and then it finally hit me: This spinoff stuff completely cheated us out of our Gossip Girl prom episode. Hello?! Proms are 90 percent of the reason I watch teen shows! Craziest of all, I didn't even realize prom was on the menu until about a third of the way into the episode. There's much to discuss, so read more.
- Let's start with the present. Serena is still in jail. Everyone knows Lily did it. Nate, Chuck, and Blair are all peeved. Nate: "I can't believe she had her own daughter arrested. Who does that?"
- But they're not as peeved as Serena. Check out what she says to her mother: "I would rather give my kids up for adoption than end up like you. . . . Oh wait. You did that." Harsh! But probably deserved.
- Meanwhile, back at the Brooklyn loft, Dan, Jenny, and Vanessa are hanging out when Rufus comes storming out of his room. He's so moody and bitter after his nonproposal ("You guys are the Gossip Girl generation, don't try to pretend like you aren't interested in this gossip"). Hey, Rufus, this is more than mere gossip!
- Aw, since Dan ruined everything last week, he calls CeCe to bail Serena out of jail, and then he takes her to prom — because even on Gossip Girl, nobody should miss prom by being behind bars.
- Speaking of which, would Serena really just check herself back into jail? I'd think she'd run away before she'd willingly submit to incarceration.
- It turns out Blair keeps a prom scrapbook full of hilarious princess drawings under her bed. Who would have thunk it?
- I love how Blair thinks the idea of "prom queen" is lame and for "suburban schools" and "teen comedies" until of course she learns she's nominated.
- Chuck maneuvers this whole dream prom scenario for Blair. Touching? Or weird? Do you wish we could have spent more time on that instead of flashing back? (Do I sound bitter?)
- Nate and Blair's breakup has to be the tamest teen breakup I've ever witnessed. It's almost sweet!
- Meanwhile, in the past . . . could they have shoved more obvious '80s references into the spinoff scenes? Fanny packs! Rubik's Cube! Tapes! Music videos are a "new art form!" They even insert a random '80s outfit montage that Brittany Snow works hard to sell.
- Ew, I can't believe that Keith van der Woodsen d-bag is Eric and Serena's dad. He even had sex with Lily's sister, Carol.
- I loved Lost's Cynthia Watros as a young CeCe! (And I especially loved her legwarmers.)
- Do you guys find Lily's love interest, Owen, interesting/attractive/worth caring about? Or do you want to just fast-forward to the part in the future where she meets Rufus?

Are you as sad as I am that the flashbacks took away from b>Gossip Girl prom? Do you think Brittany Snow did a good job as young Lily?

I only saw bits and peices of the 80s part but it looked horribly acted and poorly written.
1I completely agree - we were robbed of our prom episode. I loved Chuck looking out for Blair's perfect night but really wanted to see more from Nate after the break up. Seeing how much he has talked to Chuck about staying away, it's hard to believe he gave her up so easily. I also liked Rufus talking with Lily but keeping his distance. I hated the flashbacks and really think that whole thing was mediocre and distracting.
2Lily's 80's love interest is the weird Japanese wannabe from United States of Tara.
3The spinoff looks promising, but I agree, we were definitely cheated from a full episode of prom.
4I thought it was entertaining albeit overdone.
Can we talk about NoDoubt? that Adam Ant cover was torturous!
i have a soft spot for ND them being my favorite band in elementary school and all, but they sounded so odd.
I do want to see the spin off though, i thought the rock scenes are more fun than some stuffy rich kid prom (which they slacked on)
5I totally felt like we got cheated out of an episode of Gossip Girl! I also loved how the last episode ended with evil Georgina being back, but then she wasn't even in this episode.. what's the deal with that
6They should have done this with another episode and not steal the whole prom drama from us. Common' that could had been a great storyline.
7I opted to go to the gym instead of watching this episode. I hate the 80s and I have no interest in this spinoff. Get back to the good stuff - Blair and Chuck!
8I liked the flashbacks, but it ruined the whole prom feel and that was one thing I was highly anticipating, too (the prom, I mean).
91. Chuck orchestrating all the prom stuff for Blair - so sweet, I thought .. esp. the dress from her scrapbook.
102. Maybe this is the prosecutor in me, but I hope LILY gets arrested for false statement to a police officer - to cause an invetigation. Um, making stuff up about someone stealing from you and getting them arrested is a CRIME, Ms. Bass.
3. The 80s stuff was WAY too obvious.. totally agree on that, Buzz! I mean, the guy playing w the rubiks cube in the backseat? lame.
I thought the flashback was ok. But I think having the spin off is a bad idea. I dont care about 80's Lilly or present day Lilly for that matter.
I loved what Serena said to her mom, well deserved. lol And I thought Chuck was sweet for what he did for Blair. He can be a decent guy when he wants to.
11Didn't like the flashbacks all that much
Chuck is so sweet! How can he and Blair not be together?
And Dan and Serena- I'm starting to feel like they're the O.C's Ryan and Marissa. They can bring in as many love interests as they want but we all know they're temporary and sooner or later Dan and Serena are going to get back together.
12Ugh totally lame. I didn't like the flashbacks because it interrupted from present day GG. Lily's love interest is gross looking and looks like he would slip you a roofie in your drink kind of guy >.>EW!
13i loved the chuck/blair prom sweetness in this episode. but i was utterly aghast at how plain and boring and....BEIGE serena's dress was. i mean come on, this is PROM! she wears fancier stuff to bed!
14lol, im also trying to figure out what Buzz is wearing on her new t-shirt up there. anybody know?
15i LOVE andrew and that was perhaps that only part of the flashback that i liked. as for the present day version - i liked that chuck was being nice - i just hope that it all sorts itself out in the next episode.
16I thought the casting for the flashbacks was pretty on point, especially the mom! I actually enjoyed Brittany Snow, and I liked how I could see where the Lilly voice could develop from the bratty Valley girl voice. Her eyes are really pretty too.
17The rocker boyfriend guy IS grossly appealing, in that I don't want to think of you as cute, but you really are kind of way cute. He has a Joaquin Phoenix thing workin' for him.
I love the Van Der Woodsen douche bag, SO hot! I sense another sexy smarmy jerk like Chuck on the horizon.
If they add a young Bart Bass and Chuck's mom to the mix, then the show will be damn near irresistable!
Heck, Lilly and Blair's mom are clearly friends, maybe this friendship also lurks from way back in her youth?
I got annoyed by the flashbacks after a while. Loved all that Chuck did to make Blair's prom special. I really want to see them together. One thing that's really bothering me is Brittany Snow's eyes. For everything else - voice, face for the most part - I can see how she'd be young Lily. But nobody's eyes are still changing colors past the age of 1. Can we please get the girl some contacts so it doesn't seem like such a stretch? I did like seeing Andrew McCarthy and the casting for young Cece was good. I'm wondering if they're going to bring the Owen character into Gossip Girl since it seems Rufus isn't interested anymore.
18Rainey 4 Pres...it looks like a Buddha t-shirt to me.
19Owen the love interest - no, I don't find him interesting, or cute for that matter. And the 80's stuff was so freaking cheesy I was tempted to fast forward through it about 1/3 of the way in.
As for the present day, I'm glad that Dan at least realized the error of his ways, because he was a total loser last week. And Chuck's thing is sweet, in his weird Chuck way. I just hope that something happens next week between him and Blair that doesn't involve them staring longingly at each other while saying "it's just a game."
20owen doesn't come close to nate or chuck in looks or personality. i am a little interested to see how lilly and Keith van der Woodsen hook up. but mostly, i'm waiting for chuck to man up and sweep blair off her feet.
21I thought Brittany Snow was a good Lily and I loved Carol and Shep (but then again, I am biased when it comes to Veronica Mars actors) I want to see how Lily and Keith ended up married ( I got the impression that it was Cece's doing) and I am excited to see Andrew McCarthy again since Lipstick Jungle is no more
22Owen reminded me of Ryan from brothers and sisters so i couldnt stand him. The show didnt work for me at all, it was a wasted gossip girl episode but oh well.
23i did feel cheated out of a good prom episode. how sweet is chuck.
24dan: "who even voted for her?"
chuck: "I did. About a 150 times."
I hope that by some miracle he finally tells Blair, because he's told everyone else, that he loves her. And luckily the preview initiated that Georgina would be in it, so I'm thinking there is a sign of a miracle.
And I honestly hope that the spinoff does not go through, I just hated it, and it gives me a different impression of Lily, that I can't stand. To be even more honest, it was just lam.
we totally got robbed of prom
also i think if ur gonna do the 80's u have to f*cking commit. They looked like a bad 80s costume that people picked up rom forever21 and american apparel.
and yeaaa fast forward to rufus lol .
25I felt totally cheated with the episode. A prom episode & we got like 15 minutes of it, if that!!!
Chuck Bass continues to break my heart in the best way possible, I am absolutely 100% in love with him & ya know if him & Blair don't get together in the finale I will be majorly peeved.....
Good epispode, I didn't mind the flashbacks but would have preferred it as it's own episode and then we have our own GG cast in a full 41 minute Prom episode!!!!
26Blair and Chuck HAVE to get together in the finale. They've been building it up all season. I'll be seriously disappointed if they find a way to avoid it so they can drag it out all next season too.
I thought the flashbacks were a waste of an episode. It's cool that they want to do a spin-off, but I don't want it cutting into Gossip Girl time. I was more interested in the prom, which they hardly even showed. And with only one episode before the finale, I thought the timing of the episode was a little odd. If they really wanted to do the whole flashback thing, I think it may have been better it were done a few weeks earlier.
27thanks piglette, i can kinda see buddha now that you mention it. i keep thinking star wars for some reason, haha
28Is it me or does Brittany Snow have a thing for tv shows set on iconic time periods? I mean she already did american dreams and now a spinoff set in the 80's? When we are in 2010 she'll be doing that 90's show or something similar.
29I loved the 80's Flash back, that was the story line I wanted watch..I mean I love Gossip Girl but there have been a million Prom Like events and the new twist of episode kept me interested and the retro outfits were great and so different from normal gossip girl style. Thumbs up from me!
30This episode wasnt so great
