And that's how you do a finale. This season's last episode of Chuck has it all: romance, drama, fight scenes, Jeffster!, intrigue, nostalgia, and a good deal of promise for — please, oh please — a third season. And despite warnings from the show's creators, I'm not exactly burning my living room over it; I'm just excited that I got to see one darn fine hour of television. Ready to talk about it? Just read more.
Chuck knows kung fu! He knows kung fu and heaven knows what else, because he puts the Intersect back into his brain, and it turns out to be more powerful than anyone knew. It may be too powerful, as his dad suggests — and, if we're lucky, we'll get to find out. But for the moment, all we need to know is: Chuck voluntarily downloaded the Intersect, and he's not only a hero for it but potentially an action superstar.
And I suppose he'll be needing those powers to take on The Ring — if, indeed, that's what they're called. There's something big and bad beyond Fulcrum, some organization of spies that's never been defeated (except, apparently, by Chuck's magic martial arts skills). Their mission and motives seem shadowy so far: they shoot Roark, let Casey live, and kill Bryce Larkin (I assume, this time, for good). What do they want? How do they fit in? Will we ever get to find out? NBC, call me!
And I've only talked about the last 10 minutes! Honestly, "Chuck vs. The Ring" is exhausting: it's a big cycle of happiness followed by disaster, rinse, repeat. Chuck and Casey quit their Buy More jobs, but then Chuck learns Sarah is heading on a mission with Bryce. Chuck's ready to get his sister married, but then Ted Roark shows up. Casey manages to immediately make good on a promise and parachute in to take Roark down, but then Ellie's perfect wedding is reduced to a pile of torn silk and melted ice sculpture. The happiest moments in the episode, as it turns out, come smack in the middle, when Chuck realizes he can still give Ellie her dream wedding, thanks to a fat government check and a team of the most detail-oriented wedding planners around. The next time you need a secluded beach location, nonclashing bunting, and begonias on short notice, just give the NSA a call.
Maybe my sense of happiness is screwed up, but I find a lot of joy in this episode, even when bad things are about to happen. Take, for example, Jeffster!'s vocorder-laden rendition of "Mr. Roboto," which ends up becoming the score to one of the greatest throwdowns in Chuck history. Or Sarah telling Bryce that she won't be going away with him after all. Or Chuck's dad clocking Ted Roark. At the 40-minute mark, when Awesome and Ellie walked down the makeshift aisle to Chuck's whoops and cheers, I thought Chuck had already delivered one of the most fabulous finales I've ever seen. And that's even before the new Intersect came along to change everything.
Some other thoughts:
- Nice that Sarah's bridesmaid's dress apparently came ready for action. Also a good thing that knives are a fairly traditional wedding gift.
- "Why are you letting Sam Kinison and an Indian lesbian ruin your wedding?"
- Chuck's dad has an Intersect, too! Not entirely surprising, at this point, but I was pretty excited to see him flash.
- One of my favorite sequences involves the wedding fight, Honey Woodcombe taking a swig out of a flask, and Ellie meditating cross-legged in her wedding dress.
- Yeah, I totally still don't get all of what the Orion wristband does.
- So if Morgan, Chuck, and Casey are all gone from the Buy More, is there even a Buy More if there's a season three?
- One more time, for posterity: Chuck knows kung fu!
So now we wait. May 4 — that's when NBC has to announce its Fall schedule. I just hope that when the news comes, it'll be that we get to see how Chuck uses his new powers, rather than just imagining scenes like that closing kung fu one over and over. In the meantime, let's chat about Chuck's new powers and everything else that went down in this finale!

CHUCK ME!!!!!
I cannot, CANNOT imagine my Mondays without Chuck. The best season finale in ages, I can't remember being so happy with a show and so sad realizing that I won't have new episodes anytime soon...
There are so many speculations right now, NBC showing series finale on their site, CW possibly taking over if the show gets canceled...
I don't care... I just want Chuck to be saved!!!
SAVE CHUCK!!!!
1The only thing I didn't love about this eposide is the fact that it was over in an hour!! LOL! Love Chuck! Love Casey! Love Jeffster! Love Ellie and Awesome! Love this show! I really really hope that NBC picks it up again!
2alesimas - supposedly the series finale thing was a mistake and was taken down whew!!
3casey has become one of my favorite characters... when he realizes that chuck uploaded the intersect again - "oh chuck me" i couldn't help but laugh out loud... love it!
4Thank you Lordie, the series finale is gone from nbc site.
Thanks pinktink, I was losing my marbles over it.
I just can't understand why NBC would let us hanging over renewal. Sometimes I think it's just an evil plot to get buzz about the show, cause let's face it, why would they put such an awesome show down?
Those last 10 minutes were insane... Casey's reaction to Chuck fighting were priceless, and the whole room was amazing...
Oh well, I could go on and on... and then on again...
5SO AWESOME! I was so bummed for Ellie but everything worked out. What a GREAT episode. Fingers crossed until May 4! If Chuck is gone, I probably won't watch Heroes either and Monday nights will be lets go to the movies night for me. I LOVED Caseys face watching Chuck kick ass. Too awesome
6Such a great episode! Watching Sarah and Casey watching Chuck do Kung Fu was just beyond awesome.
If NBC cancels Chuck, I'm boycotting television next year.
7While I agree with everyone about wanting Chuck to have a third season, the season finale kinda left me unsure. The beginning was great! I was hollering at the TV: "No, not Casey!", "Yay, Jeffster!", "Lester's an Indian lesbian, LOL!", etc.
But then, it got very predictable. My friend even said, "Wow, we're hip to their tricks. We know what's going to happen next."
If it's renewed, I'll definitely be watching... but I wish they would step it up a little...
8They have to bring Chuck back!!!! Chuck was worlds better than Heros last night!!! Hero's can go bye bye but not chuck.
9omg i just watched it and it's the best season finale i've watched in a long time. if nbc cancels this show they're crazy..it's got everything romance, witty dialogue. if they do cancel it "chuck me"
10Guys..... I know kung fu.
That finale has to be one of the best I've ever seen. It's a cliff hanger without making you angry - they tied up enough loose ends and had some really amazing moments while still COMPLETELY changing everything and making you scream for more. We watched the last 3 minutes 4 times.... and we can't stop talking about it.
11If NBC cancels this show they're insane. Chuck is constantly evolving, it's easy for any one to pick up, it's funny, action packed and romantic.... It's better than season 390 of Law and Order and WAY better than Medium - a story with a premise that is difficult to change.
This new intersect opens EVERYTHING up. It could go any way....and I'm excited to see it happen.
I hope the CW doesn't get Chuck - it would not fit in with their shows. If another network picked up Chuck I'd want it to be Fox or ABC.
12That was seriously the best hour of television I've seen in a LONG time. Save Chuck! http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b120751_save_one_show...
13"Why are you letting Sam Kinison and an Indian lesbian ruin your wedding?"

14Best. Line. EVER.
I will be so sad if NBC cancels Chuck. I love that Scott Bakula is back on TV (I'm lame because he makes me happy... ever since he gave Murphy Brown orchids). And if they show the series finally on NBC.com I may have to punch something because I live in Canada and don't have access to full eps on any of the major television networks' websites.
What an amazing finale. This season has really set the bar for this show- it's been some of the best TV this year. I can't even imagine NBC canceling it- the amount of buzz it's generating and the enormity of the campaign to save it has to be enough to convince them that this is a show worth keeping around.
SAVE CHUCK!!!!
15AMAZING!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE Chuck! If they cancel it I will be so upset. I love that it's starting to be more "Alias-like" but is still hilarious. Great one-liners. PLEASE BRING CHUCK BACK!!!
16please cancel it. please.
17^ aww, does somebody need some attention?
18notice that NBC was calling it the "series Finale" not the Season Finale.
19If Chuck doesn't come back next season, I WILL throw a fit. This show is in my top 3 - it's such a perfect blend of action, comedy, romance, augh I can't stand how awesome it is! PLEASE NBC DON'T LET US DOWN!
20@bleached, agreed! That line made me LOL and I texted my friends about it! They were watching too! ^_^
21The series finale/season finale thing really was weird. In all of the TV ads and such, NBC said "season finale." And it said "season finale" on the main part of the Chuck online site today, but then off to the side it said "series finale." NBC has said it was a mistake and fixed it, but it does give me pause.
That said, networks hardly *ever* say something is a series finale unless it's an amicable end (when the networks and the creators decide it's time for a show to go) or the creators have been given enough notice to write an official ending. They usually don't even say a show is canceled. The most common way to cancel a show these days is just to leave the show off the list when a network announces a schedule for the next season. So it would be totally weird for the "series finale" thing to be some kind of message to Chuck fans, even though I wouldn't put it past them.
22@buzzsugar, do you think the "To be continued..." at the of the episode was an assurance to the fans that the show will get picked up for another season?
23I liked Chuck last season but I've loooved this season!
24I kind of also enjoyed the beginning of this episode better then the end though.
Chuck can get a bit predictable sometimes but all in all I think it's just a plain enjoyable show.
Casey continues to be my favorite character. And I loved Ellie's second wedding dress and her beach wedding looked so pretty.
I hope we still see the Buy More people next season. I would miss Lester, Jeff and Emmett. I think they're funny when they aren't overused.
yummymango — unfortunately, I think it was just the creators saying "don't worry, we've got more to say," rather than NBC saying we'll get to ever see it.
25amazing. no other words.
26@BuzzSugar: Darn! Well, I guess a fan can hope.
27This episode was so beyond awesome. Everything about it was great. I really hope it gets picked up for next season. I like that they left it open for Scott Bakula to be on more b/c who doesn't love that guy??
28CaterpillarGirl, what do you care if it's continued or not?
No one is forcing you to watch
it, and it really entertains a lot of people.
Put me on the list of people who's really like to see it return! I have a stressful job, and it's the perfect anecdote to it and Mondays

30How can NBC cancel a show that spews out likes like, "Why are you letting Sam Kinison and an Indian lesbian wreck your wedding?” Classic. Hilarious. Good Times. Awesome. Everything CHUCK is.

32Loved every minute of it! Amazing. All of it. My only beef is clearly we are going backward next season with Chuck and Sarah now that the intersect is back in his head and that feels too convenient. I hope they have the two of them progress somehow b/c I don't think there is any plausible going back now. The producers have always been so proud of how they haven't manufactured obstacles for Chuck and Sarah. But that will feel manufactured. Oh look Chuck is the intersect again, nope no-more Chuck and Sarah again, cue Chuck breaking up with her. Would Chuck really reintersect if it meant losing Sarah? No. He made his choice and chose her and Sarah in the end made hers. Chuck is only Chuck if his devotion to Sarah remains true.
33Jeffster was back! NBC can't cancel a show this entertaining.
34Raves:
- The Bartowski-Woodcomb/Awesome beach wedding was dreamy, courtesy of CIA and the Marines. The Echo Park reception wasn't bad either

- Chuck and Sarah getting a lot closer than ever. Finally, no awkward tension!
- Chuck hugging Casey (See? Guys can hug). Aside from the Morgan-Chuck bromance, I kinda liked the Chuck-Casey one-sided (not anymore!) bromance too, haha!
- Jeffster! Enough said
- Daddy Awesome's comment about Lester being an Indian lesbian caught me off guard, haha!
- Chuck karate-chopping those bad guys. Wow, the new Intersect did him good.
- Orion/Dad & Chuck both walking Ellie down the aisle. It was sweet
- Chuck going after Sarah even though Orion/Dad told him not to (eventually, he let him go).
- The Buy-Moria flag
- Emmett misinterpreting Chuck: "But I am a flaming heterosexual." =)
- Casey when Chuck uploaded: "Oh, Chuck me." Haha!
Rants:
- The end for Bryce and Teddy Roark, or is it? 'Coz in Chuck world, I wouldn't really be surprised 'coz anything's possible.
35- When Bryce "died" with his eyes open, I can't resist giggling. Sorry, so inappropriate. But maybe, there's a reason don't you think? Maybe he also became an Intersect because he's there when Chuck became the Intersect again. I mean, you'll never know; there is a web of possibilities
- Is this really the end? Come on NBC, why axe a really good show?!
- When Chuck apparently knew kung-fu and left it there hanging, my jaw dropped.
- NBC is making a big mistake if they're not gonna give Chuck more seasons
Hello...
36anyone know the song that playes during the wedding cermoni?
would also be cool to have Jeffsters Domo arrigato as a "real" song... do u thing it will apere on some soundtrack record?
It is like 'Spies Like Us' and 'The Matrix' all rolled into one. What could be better. I love that Awesome knows now.
37The best finale I have ever seen. I would be disappointed if it was canceled, but the was a great finale.
This was the best episode ever! And yes, I am aware that I say that every week. I will be so traumitized if this show does not return. I would trade in all of the other shows I watch to save this show! I'm going to be very anxious until May 4th.
38seriously, this show better come back. and if it doesnt we should start a campaign for them to make a movie - firefly style.
39After seeing the "To be continued" at the end of the last epsiode, I am hopeful, even convinced that "Chuck" will be back next year. Here's how I see it. NBC will probably pick it up for a half season and move it to another night w/o so much stiff competition to see if it fares better. If it doesnt (God, why wouldnt it???), it's gone. If it does then they'll keep it. That would give the show's creators time to tie up all the loose ends and finally unite Chuck and Sarah. Sure, it would be predictable but that's what we all want!
40We have just watched the finale of the second season of Chuck in the UK. Chuck has to be the kookiest, craziest programme ever to come out of the US. It is side-splttingly funny, it crackles with sexual tension and it has the most convoluted storyline in history. The thought that this may not run for a third season is depressing. Such spot-on writing and first-rate acting deserves another run - and another.
