True Blood fans, there's a new vampire queen in town. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Evan Rachel Wood has been hired to play Sophie-Anne, queen of Louisiana vampires, in this upcoming season.
For now, Wood is on board for two episodes at the end of True Blood's second season, which starts in June. But according to the report, that might not be the end of it: the role's a pretty major one, and EW says if the show returns for a third season, so would Wood.
I'm not that familiar with the books, so Wood's role is new to me; here's how EW describes it:
She's a 500-year-old vampire from France who is charming, wily, ruthless and wise. She's a consummate diplomat who has (or had) many of history's most famous people on speed dial.
I've always liked Wood on TV (speaking as an old Once and Again fan), and from the description, she seems well-suited to this role. But I'm curious what those of you who know the books think of this. Could Wood be the perfect Sophie-Anne, or did you have someone else in mind?

Sophie Anne is one of the Vampire Queens. She's also bi. This is going to be AMAZING. I love Evan Rachel Wood. I'm SOOOOOO EXCITED.
1I really like her...she's a great actress.
I haven't seen this show yet, but I am dying to! I can't wait until season one comes on DVD in a few weeks.
2If you go by the books, ERW is a little old for the role since Sophie-Anne was turned while she was a teenager (16, I think). However, I think that this is great casting. I can see her as Sophie-Anne and I'm totally excited to see what she brings to TB. Is it June yet?
3I wonder who they're going to get to play Hadley... Sookie's cousin/Sophie-Anne's girlfriend.
4I pictured someone a bit younger looking, and more sensual - sort of an odd combo of innocent and dangerous. I just don't see it in ERW.
5I think Evan Rachel Wood is a Home Run hit for the role.
6I don't see ERW as Sophie. I pictured someone younger, sexier, and well, more ethnic. For some reason, I don't remember Sophie as European. I have her in my head as African or something. No idea why... maybe I need to re-read the books. Again.
7i love this book series and i think this is a perfect role for wood! very excited!!!
8What a perfect fit!
9I'll be excited to see how she plays the role but I don't like her much otherwise.
10nooooooooo. Sophie ann is young and almost childlike but uber dangerous. I just don't see Wood playing it well. Dang it, now I'm bummed.
11I'm about 50 pages from from finishing the 2nd book. I haven't come across that character yet. However, once I do I'll probably be picturing ERW.
12Maybe it's the Twilight casting, but I could totally see Dakota Fanning as Sophie-Anne for a little bit of that freaky doll-like quality.
13I think she fits it perfectly! A tad bit older than the books but it will work for the show! I too am eager to see who will play Hadley ...
14There is something mean on her manners to me... but she a good actress ^^
15I am super excited for the 2nd season. I really need to read the books.
16Actually kinda perfect. She has that vampire look to her with the super pale skin and she's a great actress.
17As an old Once and Again fan as well, I have always liked her. Nice addition to the cast!
18ktc -- You won't come across her for a while. I'm half way through book 4 and haven't met her yet.
19yay - now i know more about the role and i hope that it turns into a more major thing for her in season 3. she's ALWAYS been one of my favorites and we can hope that it gets better for her! things are certainly looking up!
20I have not read the books but from the description she sounds like she would fit the role just fine!
I don't like Evan but she is a good actress!
21She is pale enough that's for sure
22And her actin skill is terrific
I need to read the book. before I read the description, I thought she was a great fit. After reading it, I'm on the maybe side. I'll have to see.
23i never read the book , but i think she will be amazing addition to the show.
24I agree with tlsgirl... would have expected someone younger with more of an erotic vibe. And I definitely don't think the show needs another redhead. Gold had a good thought with Dakota Fanning... but I think ERW is a fine choice based on her acting skills.
25I've read and loved all of the books and believe those chose very well for Sophie Anne! Though she is supposed to be younger, you can't keep a teenage actress looking the same age for a part that will last quite a few seasons. Evan Rachel Woods has pulled off sophisticated, young/cute, dark and sultry...she has it all for the part.
26I read the books and don't think the Sophie-Ann that Rachel Evan Wood plays is the same as the book. She doesn't look as young as Sophie-Ann is supposed to be (a teenage when she was turned, I think around 15 or 16?), but she does fit the delicate description of her. I also just didn't see the show character the same as the book character. Sophie-Ann in the book is a lot more reserved and poised. I like Rachel Evan Wood, I just think the Sophie-Ann on the show comes off differently than the Sophie-Ann in the books and a lot of the doesn't have to do with the actress, but the script. I can't imagine the Sophie-Ann in the book playing Yahtzee, she wasn't that kind of character. This is also just purely my opinion.
