After the intense Hard Candy, starring Ellen Page, and the vampire thriller 30 Days of Night, director David Slade will soon add Eclipse to his résumé. Summit Entertainment announced today that Slade will direct the third installment of the Twilight saga, which is set to open June 30, 2010. In the press release, Summit's President of Production, Erik Feig, states:
Stephenie Meyer's Eclipse is a muscular, rich, vivid book and we at Summit looked long and hard for a director who could do it justice. We believe we have found that talent in David Slade, a director who has been able to create complex, visually arresting worlds. We cannot wait to see the Eclipse he brings to life and brings to the fans eagerly awaiting its arrival in summer of 2010.
30 Days of Night scared the living daylights out of me, so I'm guessing Slade's take on Eclipse will have less sparkle, more sheer terror. I'm actually excited to see what he does with the material. If nothing else, this should be interesting!

S***r
I could see him doing the book justice in the transition to film. Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night were well done.
1I loved Hard Candy. That was a movie with follow-through and that delivered.
Also 30 day of night was good but I'm so sick of vampire stories and I despise the whole "Twilight" phenomenon so I guess I won't be seeing what Slade can do with that schlock.
2I am so excited to see what he will do with "Eclipse." Although I can't help but feel a little worried because the production of these films is at lightning speed!
3I hope he puts more terror in it! I hate how they never even showed fangs in Twilight... : (
4There has got to be a better picture of Slade, whats with the fingers?
5I don't think the vampires in the Twilight series have fangs, do they?
6I agree with leeluv!
7well it's interesting to me that they have SOO many different directors for each installment, but i guess they need to do that if they are hoping to get the 3rd one out in 2010. it's going to be a rough filming schedule, and it sounds like it'll be back to back for the actors after new moon is finished. i can't wait to see them, and i hope that they option the 4th soon so we can see that one as well.
8They didnt show fangs in twilight because they dont HAVE fangs
9sillyho — I tried, I really did. The majority of the pictures I could find of him have him doing that fingers thing, which I also don't understand.
10I know, Ilanac13...it IS interesting that they are going to have a different director for each book/movie. I'm not familiar with this guy's work (haven't seen Hard Candy or 30 Days of Night), but it sounds like he's a good person for the job.
11I hope they do a good job because Eclipse was one of my favorites in the series. They really are going at mach speed with these! I don't mind as long as they do the books even somewhat justice.
12Buzz - The fingers he is giving are the equal to giving someone "the bird". Something I always love about the Brits, we silly Americans think its a peace sign (look at how many American celebs do the same thing but think they are saying peace when really they're saying the opposite) when it's actually "fu-k you" when you show the back of your hand to someone with your index and middle finger up.
13Ah-ha. Well, he certainly seems to hate being photographed (or hates photographers?) since he's incredibly fond of that gesture! And these are pictures of him on the red carpet.
14Just to add to what wackdoodle said... if the palms are facing the person or photographer with the two fingers up, then it *can* be the peace sign, but if it's the back of the hand (as in the picture), then yes, it's definitely the equivalent of flipping someone off in the US.
15(Have to comment on that two-fingers thing: reminds me of when the U2 DVD - Live at Slane Castle came out, at some point a guy throws some water at Bono who then flips him off with the two fingers. All the American fans were "ooooh Bono's sooo cool, man!" and the British were "errr, no, not really. That wasn't meant to be nice."
)
*geek*
16Eclipse is my favourite of the series and because the book is so dark, I think he'll do a good job.
17about the british flipping off, i accidentally flipped off a bartender two summers ago because i was asking if he said 2 pounds... it was embarrassing! i wasn't even doing the awkward american peace thing, just asking for clarity on a number!!
but, to the point of the whole post, i believe i enjoyed the direction of 30 days of night, so this is encouraging. hopefully the movies really will get better and better. and if they do choose to do breaking dawn (which the obsessive series-reader in me hopes they do..), it gives me more confidence than if it were to be more in the vein of the first movie.
