Confession: I spent a good portion of this weekend watching Breaking Bad. I caught enough snippets of the show during its first season to know I'd like it, but it wasn't till I recorded the season one marathon last month that I really got hooked. Over the weekend, I wrapped up season one, then stayed up way too late to watch all the episodes of season two I've been saving. Now I'm only an hour or so from being completely up to speed, and I'm sure I'll now be one of the biggest Breaking Bad evangelists around.
Sure, I like to think of myself as knowing cool TV when I see it, but sometimes it takes me a while to catch on to a show's genius. The Wire was like that for me as well; I had a couple of false starts at watching the first season before powering through all of the episodes on DVD last year in time to catch the finale live. I also can't say I was on board with Alias or 24 at the start, though once I saw them, I came to love them.
I confessed; now it's your turn. What beloved TV shows did you come to late?

Citizens of Humanity
Kenneth Jay Lane

Definitely Arrested Development. I would catch some episodes here and there when it was on air. But it wasn't until a friend let me borrow the entire series on DVD that I became obsessed.
Now I recommend that everyone I know to watch it. Can't wait for the movie!
1Lost. This is my first season watching real time.
Gilmore Girls. Watched bits and pieces, until finally I decided to buy/rent the dvds to catch up.
2How I Met Your Mother.
never liked sitcoms, and it took a while for people to convince me! but i sure do love it now!
3Brothers and Sisters
i am obsessed and have seen the first two seasons on DVD and can't watch the third season yet because it's too late to catch it on TV and now i have to wait til the DVD comes out in a year!
4Buffy and Felicity, I bought all seasons after seeing reruns a couple years ago. So late!!
5for me it was Six Feet Under, i bought all the DVDs on a whim (hey they were only twenty bucks at Best Buy!!) and loved it. Arrested Development for me too, although i havent bought the last season yet. i also just started watching Gilmore Girls on SOAPnet.
6HIMYM, Damages, Mad Men, and Breaking Bad. The last three were all because their channels re-ran marathons of the first season to promote the upcoming second seasons. I Tivo'd them as I'd heard good hype...and they are now three of my favorite shows. HIGHLY recommend to anyone out there looking for something new to obsess over
730 Rock, Lost, and Mad Men. I tried all 3 & stopped watching but they kept getting bigger buzz so I gave them another shot & love them all!
8LOST! My boyfriend got me hooked!
9i came in a couple seasons late to lost and now I'm obsessed. I love it. I had just started thinking about watching pushing daises when it got cancelled too. lame
10I started watching The Office in the middle of the 3rd season so I was able to catch up really quickly. I'm currently in an NCIS kick so I'm trying to get into that since it's been running for 6 season now. And I'm caught up with How I Met Your Mother with the exception of a couple of episodes from the current season.
11Battlestar Galacatica - I got season one for Christmas and now I'm hooked!!!
12Mad Men!
13An old one...Firefly. My husband bought the DVD and it was fantastic. I'm sad it went off the air.
14I came to a lot of my favorites late, since I didn't watch TV that much up until 2 or 3 years ago. The biggies for me are Lost and the Office. I started watching both of those online this past summer/fall, and am now completely obsessed with both. Same with Grey's Anatomy. Most of my other shows I caught during the 2nd/3rd seasons (Bones, 30 Rock, House), and some I've been watching since the beginning (Chuck)
15HIMYM .... I only saw some reruns after the first season had aired.
Lost .... I missed the first few episodes and tried but couldn't follow. When the Season 1 DVD came out, watched it and have been ever since.
As well, when I was younger, I didn't watch the first few seasons of Friends but then got into it later.
Oh and if anyone is looking to just get into a show ... get into Chuck! That show is awesome.
16I started watching The Office after the third season. I caught up on seasons 1-3 that summer so I didn't watch it in real time until season 4.
My latest one is Friday Night Lights. I just started renting season 1 from Netflix and I am OBSESSED.
17Veronica Mars...I picked up the first season last year when I was bored and became obsessed after the first few episodes. I'm so sad I didn't catch it while it was actually on the air!
18HIMYM - I started watching the second season, and caught up later on.
19Veronica Mars- Started watching during second season, and netflixed the first.
Arrested Development - Didn't discover my love for this show until it was off air, but I love it!
A school friend convinced me to watch to watch Friends a couple of seasons in. Another friend got me into Alias and I had completely caught up by the time the final season was on tv. The same friend made me watch a couple of episodes of Arrested Development online last year. I loved it so much that when I went home I immediately ordered all three seasons from Amazon!
My most recent discovery is 30 Rock. I'm completely caught up on that now.
I love finding a show that has been around for a few years. It means lots of boxsets to be viewed
.
20Firefly, Veronica Mars, and Alias are all ones I saw after they were already off air. I started Lost after Season 1 and have been a faithful viewer ever since, the same is true of Mad Men and Damages.
21The X-Files (which is still my fave show ever), Buffy, and most recently, Bones.
22My husband got really into the Wire in the last season and we went back and watched all of the old seasons. Which is fair b/c I got him into LOST during the second season. I also just recently got into Bones thanks to the repeats on TNT.
23the office, the big bang theory, bones and house
24BUZZ: it should be "what tv shows did you come TOO late"
I came in on Rescue me Late, but caught up quickly.
25Supernatural.
26Seinfeld, HIMYM, Greys, Desperate houswives.
27Friday Night Lights I missed the first half of season one but got caught up online before season 2 started and I am TOTALLY HOOKED and sad season 3 is already done with!
2830 Rock I came into late but never went back and watched the first season- i probably should.
SATC, Arrested Development, Veronica Mars, and Friday Night Lights!
I didn't see the first season of any of these until DVD! Love them all...
29Friends, never liked it until about a year ago my fiance and I bought all ten seasons and for 3 months we watched.
30The Wire, The Tudors and The Sopranos were the shows that I "came to late." Glad I wasn't "too" far behind to catch up on all of them!
31Chuck. I was downloading the first episode of season 2 (from iTunes) for my brother and I decided to watch it. I was hooked on it after that and I bought season 1 the next day. Love that show!
32me too Briggs - Battlestar Galactica. Just started the last season...can't wait to see how it all ends.
33Dexter! Such a good show. And this coming week I'm starting on The Sopranos
34greys anatomy, I did not watch the first seaon but got hooked on later when it used to come on after desperate housewives.
35lost, watched it season three, the recaps of previous seasons captured my attention.
one tree hill
Lots - I rarely watch first seasons and when I do they usually get cancelled.
Lost (ABC had all 3 seasons online and I watched them all in like two weeks - insane)!
Brothers and Sisters - I am watching the first season right now, while watching new episodes - its like flashbacks on Lost!
Greys - I came post-Denny and never got the hype there.
Gossip Girl is probably the only one I watched from the beginning.
36so many...
lost - didn't get into until the hiatus during season 2
30 rock - didn't get into until season 2
californication - after season 2 was over, caught up on season 1 and am hooked!
battlestar galactica - well, haven't 100% decided if i like it or not, about 2 ep's in of season one
six feet under - didn't watch until after it was over, and my... one of the best shows (and series finale) i've ever seen. my bf is currently getting into it, so i'm watching it all over again.
and i really want to get into the wire, but i'm 50/50 when it comes to cop shows, but my friends tell me i would love it....
37Everybody Loves Raymond. Never watched til it aired in syndication 4 or 5 seasons in, then got hooked.
38Same with Seinfeld.
Friends- I was in 6th grade and my mom wouldn't let me watch it cuz she said it was all about sex. Then she got hooked later too.
Grey's Anatomy. Watched a couple eps but couldn't get into it for like 2 seasons, then I was really bored and watched one of those hour long recaps they do sometimes and was curious.
Strangers with Candy
How I met Your Mother
King of Queens
How I Met Your Mother. I'd watch a few episodes with my friends, but I've never watched it real time. I'm now finishing up season 3 tonight!
39Just about everything on Showtime. I didn't get it on my TV. I finally ordered it before last seasons Weeds premier (like literally, the day it premiered). Weeds is the only show from Showtime that I followed, and that's thanks to torrents.
40Lost!!! I watched two or three episodes when the show first came out back in 2004 or so, but just never stuck with it. Last summer, I started Netflixing the series, and I am HOOKED. Seriously, I think it's the best show ever.
I was also a little late getting into The Office, which is my other favorite show.
41I've come to notice that pilots suck--for the most part--and are nothing compared to the series itself once it gets off the ground. For that reason, I can think of very few shows that I've been with from the beginning. Usually I jump on the bandwagon if people say the show is worth it, watching the previous episodes online or DVD to catch myself up.
42Just about everything I love - Gossip Girl, Brothers & Sisters, Without a Trace, The Office, Law & Order:SVU, Numb3rs,
Shows that I love that I started from the beginning - Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives
43for those of you in need of something after Arrested Development, Always Sunny In Philadelphia was my cure. It was funny, sick, and totally entertaining.
44Pretty mucch most shows since I hate commercials so usually wait for them to come on DVD. Although a lot of the shows I liked when aired were on HBO or Showtime so didn't have commercials. But Queer as Folk, Arrested Development, Six Feet Under are some of them.
45I didn't watch Friends until it went into syndication. It was on the same night as My So Called Life. I didn't watch much TV for a while after that was canceled. I started watching in real time after Ross and Emily's wedding. More recently I came late into Battlestar Galactica. A friend turned me on to it and I was able to watch all the DVD's before the final season.
46I came into a lot of shows late. They are:
47Scrubs
George Lopez
The Big Bang Theory
Monk
Psych
Burn Notice
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
Doctor Who
Pushing Daisies
House, M.D.
Top Chef
Freddie
Lots! The Sopranos, Dexter, Lost, 30 Rock.. the list goes on.. I tend to wait until I know the shows are hits and worth watching before I Netflix them... then I can avoid watching the junk!
48Brothers and Sisters, Dexter and am starting to get into How i met your mother. Other shows like OZ, Queer as folk and whose line is it anyway i didn't discover till they were long gone.
49Just about every show I watch actually... Weeds, Alias, Greys Anatomy, Veronica Mars, One Tree Hill, Damages, SATC...
Only shows I've watched from the beginning are House, Heroes and Brothers and Sisters.
