I can't believe it's been nearly three years since Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette came out, and I'm happy to learn she's getting back to making movies — this time set in the present day at a famed hotel.

Titled Somewhere, her next movie centers on "a bad-boy actor stumbling through a life of excess at the Chateau Marmont. With an unexpected visit from his 11-year-old daughter, he is forced to reexamine his life."
Stephen Dorff will play the actor and Elle Fanning will play his daughter. I'm a little surprised by the Dorff casting because one of the last things I remember seeing him in was in a Britney Spears video. Landing the lead in a Sofia Coppola movie is a big deal and might signal a Mickey Rourke-like comeback for Dorff. He's also set to appear in the much anticipated Public Enemies.
I'm also intrigued by the Chateau Marmont setting because there is so much Hollywood lore associated with the place. Despite how glamorous it looks on the outside, it's also a symbol of the dark side of fame. John Belushi tragically died of a drug overdose there, it's where Lindsay Lohan took refuge after her 2007 arrest for drunk driving, and it's where Jim Morrison of The Doors suffered major injuries after dangling from a drain pipe (he was trying to jump off the balcony of the hotel). Definitely a good spot to explore Hollywood excess, that's for sure.
What do you think of this casting? Do you like the idea of a new Coppola movie set in the Chateau Marmont?

Tory Burch
Pedro Garcia
Matthew Williamson
So Stephan Dorff is playing himself? but with kid?
It sounds like a gender/age inverse of Lost in Translation. I'm holding off judgment for now, because I do love her work and I'm sure the soundtrack will be amazing.
1Stephen Dorff??!! Ew. That alone deters me from wanting to see this.
Although I do like her work a lot too, Leslievanhoute. Lost in Translation is one of my all-time favorite movies.
2well i think that a lot of people expect a lot from her and she typically delivers so i'm sure that this is going to be something to check out. elle really is coming into her own too - just like her big sister.
3Marie Antoinette was a masterpiece, imo.
4And sorry, but Lindsay Lohan and is not anywhere near the same league at John Belushi or Jim Morrison.
5Urgh, was just thinking the same thing about Lindsay, fleurfairy.
6I for one, think Stephen Dorff is gorrrrrgeous.
I could not be more excited! Sophia is the greatest, I cannot wait!
7Ooh, this sounds worth seeing, for sure. Sofia has proven she can tell good stories in hotels. A Stephen Dorff comeback could definitely be interesting.
8Sofia Coppola sucks.
9It sounds interesting, and Sofia is a great director, I love her and I liked all her films, specially Lost in Translation.
10I love Sofia's work, so I hope this one doesn't disappoint. Can't judge the ppl chosen in the film or the setting yet, we'll just have to wait and see...
11This sounds like it has potential. The only things I remember Stephen Dorff from is the Brittney Spear's video and the first Blade movie.
12He was in that god-awful two-part miniseries last fall with Val Kilmer. I'm sure he is thanking the acting gods for getting cast in this movie.
13LOVE Sofia's movies... can't wait!
