It's official — Showtime's The Tudors will return for a fourth season next year. But don't get too attached: As the show's creator suggested at the TCA press tour in January — when he pointed out that Henry VIII would be out of wives fairly soon — the fourth season will be the show's last.

This season of the show follows Henry (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) through his relationships with Jane Seymour and Anne of Cleves, leaving two Catherines (Howard and Parr) for the final year. That last season may be even more dramatic than the rest, culminating with Henry's descent into madness. The final 10 episodes will air in Spring 2010.
The Tudors has performed well in the ratings so far this season, even becoming one of the few shows to beat a competing program on HBO when it fared better than In Treatment the week of its premiere. So, will you see this take on the saga of Henry VIII through to its end? And which actresses do you have in mind for the final two wives?

I still don't get why Meyers is in it, we all know Henry VII was an old, gross fat guy
I guess so people would watch it!
1I am curious how they're going to handle the physical change in Henry; we're all relatively familiar with the obese, slovenly, syphillitic (is that a word?) Henry. JRM is none of those things, although the crazy eyes might buy a few points.
2I thought that they already found Catherine Howard. Well, as long as the Duke of Suffolk is around, I'm so in.
3agreed onyx! i am on board for charles brandon.
on the point that jrm doesn't look like the henry viii we think of, i think it's interesting to do a reimagination of the character. powerhungry playboy can look a number of ways i guess. i don't mind it with six pack abs and crazy eyes.
4woohoo. love the tudors. love anything that gets me hooked on science or history or art. we need to keep education combined with our entertainment. mindless TV is just bad for our brain.
5Henry won't be fat in this show. This is Showtime, not The History Channel. I'm glad they're doing a fourth season, just to see what happens with the two Catherines. One beheaded, one survived!
6i read the sequel to the other boleyn girl and i can't remember the name for the life of me right now. anyways, itll be interesting to see who is Catherine Howard, since she was sooo young and had her own affairs.
7i think that it's great that they've already renewed it, and know that it's going to be the last season so JRM can set something up for when it's over. i adore him and i think that he's GREAT in the role. i missed some of the first season though, so i'm going to have to get the DVDs. at least i'm glued to the 3rd season so far!
8AWESOME!
9Love this show!
I'm glad that I get to watch one more season!
10It was "the boleyn inheritance" redchick
11I'm pretty excited about this! Not sure about the casting choices...I hope they find someone as captivating as Natalie Dormer was, she was absolutely fantastic..I miss her Anne!
I agree with the Charles Brandon crew...keep him, and you'll keep me!
I will definitely be around for the 4th season. I subscribed to Shotime just so I could be up to date on this Season! I know it is historically incorrect, but I wish there was a way to bring back Natalie Dormer (Anne Boleyn)--she was friggin AWESOME and commanded just as much attention as JRM!
I also agree that the king's friend is quite yummy and I would not be as interested if the king were a bloated, infected, slutpuppy. Eye candy is highly preferred and there has to be some entertainment value for cable tv!
12Yes! Love this show! I have been addicted since season one.
13I am excited to see JRM, who is sooo Fantastic in this role, and the show for one more season! Woohoo
I'll play the last wife! I'm a huge history fan (getting my BA in it soon) and have been following the Tudors in fiction and non fiction books and movies since I was little.
I don't see why they can't go on for another season. It's called The Tudors, not Henry the 8th. There is still Edward, Mary and Elizabeth that they could go through if they really wanted to. I would love to continue watching the show with those three.
14And what about after season 4? Will there be a continuance to follow the time-line up through Elizabeth's reign and the beginning of the Stewart Dynasty? That would be awesome.
15hey man,im waiting for the series on the stuarts king james the first the first stuart''queen'' charles the first ''the moron'' king charles the second ''the sex addict or i like to call him the poster boy for the maury show ''charles, you are the father!!!''
16Personally,I'd love to see Showtime do a series on Louis the Fourteenth or Peter the Great both were colossi of their respective centuries long reigns filled with even more sex bloodshed and power than any Tudor potentate
17Great news! But, wait a minute. Why end it when Henry runs out of wives? I'd love to at least see what they do with Edward, Jane Grey, and Mary. They deserve their turn in the limelight! It'd be fun to see Elizabeth get tickled by her smarmy step dad as well.
18This is a tremendous story, I can not believe it is even true, that it actually happen!!!. It is amazing, that time, all those great personalities, are just incredible.
I really believe that Anne wasn't that cruel, she was ambitious, but she also was a nice person who help the king with everything he did. I mean, because of her he realized that he could have the power over all England without any intervention (The Church), and she enchanted him, the others didn't do nothing to get the King's attention, but Anne, she truly deserve him.
The performances were astonishing, I believe that as the King as Anne, they were exactly as they appear in the series. Congratulations for your work!!! You're amazing!!!
