Listening to a new Fiona Apple song feels like getting a drop of water after a long time in the desert. I so enjoy her unique voice and I miss it during the long breaks she tends to take between albums. That's why I was so excited to come across a recording of her singing the Cy Coleman song "Why Try to Change Me Now?"
I've heard Frank Sinatra's whimsical version of this old jazz standard, and it's great. Not surprisingly, Apple's take on the song is more melancholy than Sinatra's and completely lovely. I'd like to add this single to my MP3 collection, but it's not available on iTunes just yet (it will be included on a CD titled Then Was Then and Now Is Now: A Tribute to Cy Coleman).
I'll keep my eye out for when this single is available to purchase, and in the meantime you can take a listen if you read more.

3I think she is SO amazing...I have been loving her music for years and years. One of my favorite female vocalists.

5I love it!!
6She could sing anything to me. I love her.
7Hello does anyone remember her bizarre grammy acceptance speach? She was way out there and so critical. I stopped being a fan after that.
8I totally remember that speech Care, it was super annoying! I had been a fan, and was turned off of her after that for years until she opened for Coldplay when I saw them in 2006. I went to the show thinking "Ugh, have to get through Fiona Apple's likely angst filled set first", but she completely suprised me! She was charming and humble - VERY candid about how happy she was to be performing again, and how honored she was to open for Coldplay. Her set was great! She won me back after that show. I hope no more grammy-esque tirades are in her future.
9The Grammy's? Are you guys referring to the VMAs, in like, '98?
10I love Fi through all of that she is just the best!
11Oh, and I forgot to say that I love C. Coleman and Frank Sinatra and I think Fiona Apple's rendition is a good one too
