Wowza! The fourth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise debuted this weekend and earned an estimated $72.5 million, easily taking the No. 1 spot at the box office. Variety reports this represents one of the biggest box office surprises of the season and is the biggest April opening ever.
Monsters vs. Aliens continued to do solid business and came in second place with an estimated $33.5 million. The top five was rounded out by The Haunting in Connecticut, Knowing, and I Love You, Man in third, fourth, and fifth place respectively. Finally, a movie I really enjoyed, Adventureland, debuted at No. 6.
Did any of you see Fast and Furious? Did your theater have shaky seats?

I didn't even know this movie was released.
1I didn't know it was already out either but thanks for the warning- my husband will want to see it!
2I am confused with this movie. Is it a new one? Or did they re release the first one?
3it a new one
4i'm actually really surprised that FF did so well. i had NO desire to see it at all. instead i went to see adventureland and really enjoyed it. if you haven't seen it already - go check it out!
5who on EARTH paid to see this ??
6it was really good...me and my bf are big fans of #1 & #2 and this one was really good had lots of little jokes that ran back to the first one
7wow.. I see that some guys blackmailed their girlfriends into going to see The Fast and The Furious.
8I really want to see this but will probably end up seeing it when it comes out on dvd. My friend went the other night and it was sold out. I'm glad it did so well.
9I want to see it but will probably just wait and rent it.
10I secretly love the first Fast and the Furious, so I am excited to see this! My husband and my best friend's husband are DYING to see it, so we're going to make it a double-date night soon!
11Poor Adventureland. I hope people notice all of it's good reviews and go see it.
12No surprise that this topped the box office, just like the first one, which made more in the opening weekend than the whole film cost to make.
People like to get snarky about Vin Diesel, but he's hugely popular. Not just in action films either. The Pacifier opened on top, and most of his films are big in the home market too. He's one of a few people I make a point of seeing all their work.
13I thought it was much better than the second(Tokyo Drift) but not near as good as the origial. 2.5 stars out of 5. But its entertaining
14My sister and I absolutely LOVED the first one...we saw it about 10 times in the theater (the $1.50 theater, mind you - we're not independently wealthy!). Can't wait to see this one!
15It's definitely a rental. I am COMPLETELY shocked it did this well.
