Because I've come to think of Denzel Washington as more like a sexy, sweet guy — someone you'd want as, say, the father of your kids — this trailer for American Gangster provides a bit of a jolt. In this Ridley Scott-directed project, Washington plays Frank Lucas, a loyal family man/leader of a crime ring in 1970s Harlem. It's that scary thing, not unlike Tom Hanks' character in Road to Perdition, where you think you know that kindhearted member of your family until they turn out to be a cold-blooded member of the Mafia. Rusell Crowe costars as the roguish cop on Lucas' trail, looking convincingly dowdy. Special bonus: My man Chiwetel Ejiofor also stars.
The trailer is chilling and fully has that New York-in-the-1970s look, so to watch, read more

Looks really good. There's a New York magazine article about this and about Frank Lucas now. I haven't had a chance to read it all though. Isn't this Denzel and Russell's second or third movie together?
Judging from the photo above the movie already looks bada**, but the trailer. THE TRAILER! Got me excited to see this. I love 70's soul music so I'm hoping this movie will be playing some great ones. And Denzel Washington, always the smoothest playa' in Hollywood. Hope this movie will get some Oscar buzz for something.
I'm not a fan of movies relating to back in day especially ones like these and where is kinda a black vs. white kinda thing since its in the days of major racism too...so dont really care who's in it or not, i wont be watching it...and it sadly looks like Denzel will die in the end :'( so definetly a added No No...wow that's interesting though...a black man back in those days with the Mafia...that part is interesting but still not tempted.
As far as I know Frank Lucas is alive today, or at least he didn't die during that time.
Love Denzel, Russell (I know I am in the minority but I think he is awesome!), and Ridley. I have been excited about this movie since I heard about it back in pre-production. I can't wait to see it on the big screen!
I like Russell's acting but the rest leaves a lot to be desired. Cute dog.
I can't wait to see this. I LOVE period pieces with old school 70's flavor, and of course Denzel and Russell are cool too.
looks awesome...can't wait
Haha IceQueen---as though racism like that doesn't still exist? It's just not legally sanctioned these days...I for one am on the fence about this movie because it just looks like a trouble-stirrer for all the young black men who identify with Tony Montana and will now switch their alliegance to Frank Lucas--as though drug dealers and mobsters are people to look up to regardless of whether they gave back to their communities--it's still blood money.
Ooh, this looks great! I love Denzel and I'm so happy to see Chiwetel in more movies. And Common who is guh. So hot. I could care less about Russell Crowe but he's usually good in anything he does.
What a supercool trailer! Whatevs haters, Russell Crowe's HOT! Can't wait for this film. Sir Ridley always deliver the goods and Denzel's ain't bad either. I'm so there on the opening.
If you like Chiwetel you should see Red Dust with Hilary Swank. It is a great movie about the repercussions of apartheid in South Africa. Highly recommend it!
I LOVe HIM SO MUCH ZEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL!
Can't wait to see it! They actually filmed this near my apt when they were in Midtown-West..Was fortunate to meet Ridley Scott when my friend and I accidentally walked into a bagel shop that was opened early/only for the film crew.
I can't wait to see the movie. Denzel is an amazing actor!
