I'm a little bit wary of "watch/read/listen to this before you die" lists, because I don't know if I totally get the point. Movie lists in particular seem to focus on really good, classic movies, but why not have a little fun, too? What about the so-bad-it's-good movies that are worth seeing — like, say, Center Stage? (I love that movie.)
The good folks at Yahoo! are the latest to tackle this challenge, pulling together 100 movies to see before you die, defined as such:
To choose the titles for the list, we considered factors like historical importance and cultural impact. But we also selected films that we believe are the most thrilling, most dramatic, scariest, and funniest movies of all time."
This list is fairly comprehensive and includes a wide range of titles like Citizen Kane, Groundhog Day, and Roman Holiday. There are some titles I'm impressed made it on their list (Terminator 2: Judgment Day) and some omissions that boggle my mind (Wall-E!).
But there are always movies, both big and small, that get overlooked on lists like these, and so I'm wondering: If you could suggest one single movie that people should see before they die, what would it be?

Les Nereides
Fendi
Nicoli
It may not be Citizen Kane, but I love Father of the Bride. Armani doesn't make a navy blue tuxedo gets me every timeQ
1Monsoon Wedding is my personal favorite, along with Almost Famous and, of course, Clueless.
2Jurassic Park!
3Roman Holiday for sure
4Roman Holiday, Breakfast at Tiffany's and Forrest Gump (you will never understand the quote "Run, Forrest, Run!" until you see that movie).
5Clerks -- the film that proved a feature could be financed solely on credit cards!
6I've only seen 9 of those movies ! They're so old..
7The Graduate, Harold and Maude, Amelie, The Shawshank Redemption.
8mean girls!! haha thats the high school girl in me that advocates it lol. hmm.. the shawshank redemption, good will hunting, rainman.. the kite runner (one of my fav book-to-movie films)
9and ive only seen 10 movies from that list
10I've seen 24 of the movies on the list. I would add Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
11Schindler's List. So, so moving.
12And I can't believe Gone With the Wind isn't on the list. It revolutionalized film! Grrr.
13First of all I've seen Citizen Kane, it has beautiful photography but is a boring and long movie. And I JUST watched Groundhog Day on Saturday. Otherwise I would say Princess Bride, Moulin Rouge, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and so many others...
14i agree on forrest gump! that's a huge omission.
15Life is Beautiful.
16Also, I've only seen 30 of these movies. A lot I've been meaning to check out, but for example, I have no desire to see Citizen Kane.
17No movie has EVER had the effect on me that "Apocalypse Now" does.
18Wow- I've seen 71 of those movies! I guess I'm doing pretty good...
But I 100% agree with Jurassic Park. That is a major omission.
19Gah. I've seen fewer than 10 of these. Can you tell I'm not a big moviegoer? Oops.
20I've seen 16 of those. Not bad I think.
I'm so glad Pulp Fiction was one there, that's my pick.
21And yes, where was Forrest Gump?
22i'm with johnsonkm. Father of the Bride is theeee movie. Not as sophisticated per say, but I love it. Reminds me of my Dad
23My Man Godfrey
That is the only film you need to see before you die - maybe people would learn a thing or two from it.
24i've seen half of these. the bicycle thief, i had to see in college for a film class and, women on the verge of a nervous breakdown, i saw at a friends house who had just broken up with her boyfriend. it was WEIRD! but entertaining.
25That's a good list there's only a few i haven't seen, thank god for the TCM channel. But where's The Goonies and Stand By Me?
26Cat Ballou and Paint Your Wagon deserve a spot on on that list and i cant believe Gone with The Wind is not on there.
2768/100. This list is pretty comprehensive and eclectic. Who would have thought 8 1/2, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Die Hard, and In the Mood For Love would be on the same list? But how about a movie from the unrepresented documentary genre, maybe Hoop Dreams or The Fog of War
28Definitely Gone with the Wind.
29Oh, I've seen 36 of them.
30Ooh, a lot of my faves are on that list! And T-2 is a masterpiece, Buzz. Come on!
Anyway, there aren't only 100 movies you have to see before you die. There are probably more like 1000.
The one that vexes me the most is when people make these top 100 lists and include Star Wars but not The Empire Strikes Back (my favorite movie ever.) Empire is VASTLY superior to the original IMHO.
Also, no Indiana Jones?? Pur-lease!
31It's an old Soviet movie, but it's absolutely beautiful.
The Cranes are Flying.
You will not regret it.
32i couldn't live without Moulin Rouge!
also, Strangers with Candy would be on my list... and a big NO to Titanic!! i know some of you will disagree but i really resented the three hours of my life it wasted with its cornball f'kery
33I've seen 22 of those movies. Hmmm. I will never watch The Exorcist so I guess that's 99 movies I need to see. When Harry Met Sally is one of my all time faves. Holiday Inn is a great black and white that everyone should see.
34If I had to pick only one movie, it would be The Godfather. Raging Bull would be very high on my list as well. Gone With the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, and Schindler's List would probably round out my top five. Shawshank Redemption and In The Heat of the Night would be high on my list, as well.
As far as recent (in the past year or so) movies go, I would put Milk and The Wrestler on my list.
35Oh, Casablanca and Apocalypse Now would be on my list, as well. And, just to make it a top ten (with my seven from before), I would put A Clockwork Orange on my list.
If I had to pick a must-see comedy, I would go with Animal House or When Harry Met Sally.
36Oh wow. Hm...American Beauty, Eternal Sunshine...
37Take A Clockwork Orange off my list and put in On The Waterfront.
I can never make a decision!
38It's not the most popular movie but I love Benny and Joon. It's quirky and cute and Johnny Depp looks super hot in it! He's in his 1993 prime.
39Braveheart should be on there. Gladiator- Grease- Remember the Titans- Tommy Boy-there are so many that you should see that its impossible to leave it at only 100.
40I agree Gone with the Wind should be on there.
The Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Grease, The Shining, Jaws, E.T., The Breakfast Club, The Goonies, Forrest Gump, The Notebook, The Departed...I could go on and on. LOL.
I've seen 35 of the movies on that list...I have a ways to go, I guess!
41Um, hello, how could Gone With the Wind NOT be on the list!
42outrageous!
Go out and see it, or you'll come back to earth to haunt because you have UNFINISHED BUSINESS!
Not on the list.
Raising Arizona
Terms of Endearment
Dawn of the Dead (original one)
Star Trek Wrath of Khan
Annie
Eat Drink Man Woman
The Joy Luck Club
Full Metal Jacket
The Thing (original)
Goodbye Mr. Chips (original)
Journey to the Center of the Earth (original)
The Clash of the Titans.
Movies that shouldnt be on that list:
43Princes Mononoke
Titanic- WTF is this crap doing on that list.
harold and maude
44I don't agree with the list, but the Wizard of Oz would be my favorite from the ones listed. I agree w/ the others..why is Gone with the Wind not listed? That's insane!
45fight club
46Rear Window I guess
47Moulin Rouge, Shawshank Redemption, The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, Groundhog Day, Forrest Gump, and any Audrey Hepburn movie.
