Anne Hathaway will soon be doing double duty as Judy Garland: She's been cast for both a theater and film adaptation of a book about the troubled star's life.
The roles are based on the biography Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland, which comes from the same writer who wrote the Truman Capote biography that was adapted into the 2005 Oscar-nominated film. The Garland book was originally published in 2001, and the Weinstein Company recently picked up the rights to it for both stage and screen.
Harvey Weinstein said Hathaway "will be a true class act in this challenging role." We know from this year's Oscars that Hathaway can sing — and from Rachel Getting Married that she isn't afraid to play the dark sides of addiction, which Garland struggled with throughout her life. Can you see Hathaway in this role?

Absolutely. I think she'll do great!
1I think that's fantastic casting! Good for her!
2Very good casting! I think she's an awesome actress.
3Fantastic casting- if the movie looks decent I'd definitely see it!
4Fantastic! I smell Oscar...
5Excellent choice. She's a great pick for this role.
6I LOVE Judy Garland... cannot wait for these... Anne is perfect, in my opinion... can't think of anyone else that could do her such justice.
7PERFECT.
8I'm so excited! I love Anne, and can't wait for this.
9oooh how exciting!!!
10Perfect!!
11Great I guess.
12Wow she would make a GREAT Judy Garland, can't wait to see this!
13She looks just like her, and I love her voice!
14I might be the only one, but I'm iffy on this. Anne's too tall and too thin to play Judy. I actually loved Tammy Blanchard who played Judy in "Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows" a couple of years ago.
Guess the studio just wanted a recognizable face with Anne then...
15I'm not sure how I feel about her. Never have been.
16Sorano, I agree that she has to gain some weight...but I think she's great, I'm biased though because I love her!
17ooh i love this idea. anne is a great actress. gaining a lil weight will make it look more realistic.
18as much as i don't really like her anymore- i think that this is something that she's going to do well. she really can sing which was a shocker and we know that she's good at playing a distressed person. we'll just have to see what happens i suppose
19I love Anne Hathaway and I love Judy Garland so I'm definitly seeing this movie!!!
20I can really see her in this role. I can also see her getting an Oscar nom. for it!
21Oh good, because I like my Anne Hathaway with a little more meat on her bones! She can gain a little weight to look the part more, and they can always downplay height on screen. I think this is fabulous casting.
22nooooo! Tammy Blanchard was so so so so good as judy! and i really hope anne doesnt do her own singing, i mean sure she can sing, but there is NOOOOO WAY she can sing like judy! i love judy, but a really good movie was already done about her life, why is there a hollywood obsession with bio pics? no creativity??
23hellz no
24For a bankable actress, she's a great fit
25I think this is an amazing casting choice...I love Anne so much, she will be fabulous in this role. I know it.
26It's a great casting idea, I'm excited, but I don't know that the vocals will truly be that stellar.
27Sure she has a great broadway voice but will she be able to age with the character and show off the grit and artistic beauty of Garland's older voice? Unlikely.
I'm so going to be first in line if this film keeps up the buzz, or I'll wait till DVD if it turns out to be lackluster.
However, vocally, online one young diva could handle this performance==Aguilera!
I definitely think she'll do a great job in this role, but I highly doubt she's going to actually sing for the movie. I mainly think this because what made Garland famous was her unique and iconic singing voice. While Hathaway has a great set of pipes, they just don't compare to Garland's (let's face it, whose does?). She'll more than likely lip sync to recordings of Garland like Marion Cotillard did for Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose. However, I could be surprised. If she is singing for the role on stage she's going to have to go through lots of training. Garland's voice is not easily mimicked.
