Well, do we really have a top 10 on American Idol? Remember, because of this new "judges' save," there's always a possibility of a non-elimination episode of Idol this year. So, what happened on Wednesday? There was lots of drama and a whole lot of country singin'! You know, I've never been a huge Brad Paisley fan, but I have to say I found him easy on the eyes. But I digress! We have serious things to talk about, so read more.
So wow, the save actually ended up adding some honest-to-goodness drama this week. You guys overwhelmingly thought Michael would go home, and he was in the bottom three along with Alexis and Allison, but he must have hit a chord out there (heh, no pun intended) because America kept him safe.
Meanwhile, I totally thought Scott's performance was forgettable and guessed he'd be in the bottom three, but no. Apparently Alexis was more forgettable (Randy couldn't even get her name right on Wednesday's show!) and America voted her off.

Of the bottom three, Allison was the first sent to safety, so Michael and Alexis were in the bottom two when Simon told Ryan that the judges would consider using the save for one of them. Then, after Michael was sent back to the couch, Simon told Alexis she was the one they were apparently open to saving — so could she please sing that crappy song from Tuesday again and make it work this time? Well, poor, shaken Alexis had a very rough time, and I could tell the news wasn't going to be good as the huddled judges looked on. She was kind of "pitchy," as Randy would say, and completely missed some notes. Ugh! It's such a torturous ending for these kids, don't you think? Needless to say, it was the end of the road for the tiny woman with the big voice. Is it really fair for the judges to base their final elimination on a spontaneous performance after someone's just learned their dreams are probably crushed? Or do you think the judges have actually decided long before the final song?
A few more of my thoughts:
- The group sing and Ford commercial were pretty tame, but you know what wasn't? When Ryan threw a water balloon at Simon and apparently hit a nice lady in the audience instead.
- OK, it kind of felt like Megan gave Scott the stink-eye when Ryan told us he was saved. Probably just my imagination — but did anyone else see it?
- Carrie Underwood sounded great, but the hair? Hmmm. Wasn't a fan.
- Ha! Simon said he watched Adam's performance again on TV, and it reinforced his initial opinion that it was awful.
- Now that they've lifted the curtain on the secret post-Idol elimination party and its rituals (lots of speeches, apparently) we can all breathe a sign of relief knowing Alexis will get a nice send-off.
- That party video was just one of the night's teary moments — another being Michael Sarver looking genuinely upset while saying hi to his wife and kid.
If you're a fan of the Idol tour, you now know this year's line-up! What do you think?

Yeah, what was with that thing in Underwood's hair, ick! And that weird cigarette burn looking thing on her dress was equally bad. Am I the only one who absolutely loved Adam's song? It's the first I've heard out of Adam that I liked and I'm considering downloading it on iTunes today. He's in my top faves now along with cutie Matt Girard. Me-ow.
1Anyone else think that Idol could probably afford a better restaurant then some sleazy pizza parlor to send off the ousted contentestants?
I really hated Carrie's hair last night... I am still shocked that America wanted Sarver over alexis though... ummmm ok, america...He or Scott goes home next, or I have lost my faith in America.
2Ok. I'm gonna have to repeat myself but... As far as I remember the show is about talent, and not a Charity Event!
I'm sorry, but Alexis alone, is a better singer than Michael and Scott combined.
I didn't care that much about her, but that was absurd. And the fact that the judges didn't save her, is even worst. They are saving the almighty power for Adam Reign of Lame or Gookey Dookey.
I guess I'm just really upset to see that Michael and Scott are still around. I had this theory that the judges would save her, and eliminate both of the guys next week. Nope.
Other than that, Simon saying "just answer the question" ten times to Paula was kinda funny .
3I was hoping Michael would have gone. He is not even close to being on the same playing field as the rest of them. Next week is Motown so we'll see. Alexis is talented but I think most people did kind of forget her by the time it was all over with. That song should be added to the "don't sing this" pile.
Carrie did unbelievably well. She is soo darned talented!! The hair was a little weird, like it was supposed to be a faux haircut situation or something. Other than that, definite highlight of the show. I even think George Strait was sorta out sung and out performed by her.
4I'm glad the judges didn't used the save on Alexis. (OK, I'll admit, she annoyed me all along.) But still, I think it would have been silly to use it this early in the competition.
And the send-off was at Buca di Beppo. They blurred out the logo a few times, but there were other times when it was in plain view.
And Underwood sang with Randy Travis, not George Strait.
5Bucca Di Peppo is still tacky, imo.
6Who said it wasn't?

8bummed that they sent alexis home. I didnt watch, I hate that it's on at the same time as Lost! And I guess call me tacky or whatever, but I think bucca di beppo is good, Ive only been there a couple times, but why not send them there? Maybe she liked the place?
9And no, aeryn, you're not the only one. Most people just hate him, so hate everything he does. While I agree that he's WAY over the top and weird, I thought the song was cool.
Buca makes this salad with insane amounts of crispy proscuitto on top, so tacky or not tacky, it's OK with me!
I didn't want her to go home yet, but at this point in the competition I'm really only concerned about Matt. Anoop and Kris are my other two favorites, but I'm hoping Matt goes far. I also don't like Alison all that much, and if I had to pick I would have had her sent home before Alexis.
10I couldn't agree with you more about Megan giving Scott the stink eye! That was my first reaction: "Whoa, Megan doesn't look happy!"
11"Am I the only one who absolutely loved Adam's song?"
12No Aeryn, I loved it too. But what the heck was Randy talking about saying this was Jeff Buckley version? He never sang that song. Unless Randy meant Buckley style of singing. That would actually be accurate.
I'm ok with Alexis leaving the show. She never impressed me and was overrated by the judges.
I thought that at first about the Megan/Scott thing, but then I remembered she was sick. I think she was just leaning back so the person next to her could congratulate Scott and she didn't have to touch anyone and get them sick. They all wore masks at rehearsal so I think they're being pretty cautious. Just my observation.
13I'm kind of okay with Alexis going home. She looked sooooo angry when Randy didn't know her name (rightly so). I was kind of cracking up at her facial expressions the rest of the time. She looked like she just wanted to get out of there.
And, yes, I noticed Megan's reaction too, lol.
14Alexis irritated me, so honestly, I wasn't too sad to see her go.
Carrie Underwood sounded amazing, but her hair and her dress were horrible. She's really pretty, but that's one look that she can't pull off.
Even though Allison isn't my favorite, I don't think she deserved to be in the bottom 3 at all. Scott should've been there instead.
15I really don't have a favorite, but I definitely think Michael and/ or Scott should have gone home before Alexis. Michael = a fratty pile of boring. Scott is good as a piano player but sooo Lite Radio.
16I think the main reason they sent Alexis home and they didn't use the save was to cover there butts. There has been talk about them wanting either her or Danny to win. They probably originally wanted to maybe use it on her but to cover there butts they decided not to.I might be wrong but that's what I think happened.
17I didn't agree with this at all, they should have saved her. Isn't that the point of the saves to give someone another shot who had a bad week. This is clearly the case, Alexis is not suited for country music and I think Michael Sarver should have been booted. I also agree with others about Scott, I'm getting sick of him playing up his handicap and always playing the fricken piano. WTF!!!
18I agree with misshellokitty- supposedly an Idol staffer was online saying that the top four had been chosen ( Gokey, Alexis, Lil & Adam, no surprises) and that it was more or less a done deal. I think Idol has come under a lot of public scrutiny and criticism in the past two seasons about how it manipulates the vote ( or in the case of the new 'save' rule, totally ignores it). I think Alexis was a sacrifice to try and show people that they don't pick faves ahead of time. The producers are all totally aware of groups like Vote for the Worst and they want to be able to fight them however they can. I think Scott is only on because of being blind ( sorry!) and I also thought Simon totally had a point when Paula wanted Scott to move away from the piano- ?? Has Paula not seen how they have to arrange all the group sings around him so he doesn't HAVE to move? Simon wasn't mean there, just being practical. Scott should give up his weak vocals and just play piano for other people who sing, and maybe do backup vocals. He could make a nice living for himself in the industry that way.
The oil rigger guy is nice, but has a very so so voice- I really thought he would go home.
Allison has great strength and vocal control for someone so young. I have to say though, I hate her hair. Dye your hair a funny color or wear some black nail polish and oohh! AmIdol thinks you are so scary and punk rock!
19I was just starting to like Alexis, after her performance of "Dirty Diana" last week, so I was bummed to hear that she got kicked off last night (I was watching Lost so I didn't hear about her elimination until this morning). I know she had a bad performance on Tuesday, but I think Michael Sarver should have gone home.
20I figured they would consider using the save on her, but also guessed that it had to be amazing otherwise they would save it for Adam, Danny or Lil.
21Alexis got a little too full of herself where the others aren't so much- except for Anoop.
22I see them saving the people with really good talent-Matt, Danny, and Adam.
Alexis shouldn't have been the one to go home. Michael was clearly the weaker singer of the two. How awkward it must have been to see the judges huddled talking as she was singing...I felt badly for her.
