NBC's Kings, which premieres tonight, is a vastly ambitious series, set in an alternate universe at a time of war and based on the Biblical story of David and Goliath. It has a fantastic cast, including Ian McShane as the powerful King Silas and relative newcomer Christopher Egan as young David. And while it doesn't necessarily get everything right in tonight's two-hour premiere, I'm curious to see how the show develops in the coming weeks.

Tonight's premiere introduces us to Gilboa, a fictional modern world, where a war is raging. In the first two hours, we're introduced to the main players — including David, who leads a mission that ends up saving the king's son. He's swept into a magestic, upper-class world, and watching him deal with sudden fame is one of the more intriguing parts of the premiere.
The show's pacing is a bit odd — events in the first two hours either happen very quickly or seem to take forever to develop — and the Bible parallels are a bit heavy-handed at first, as though the writers wanted to make very sure that we get what they're doing here. But its production is impressive and the acting strong, and I'm looking forward to seeing what turns the show takes next.
Will you check it out tonight? To watch a preview, just read more.

I've seen this preview one too many times but I might check it out. What time is it on, 8?
1Looking forward to seeing how this series develops. I'll be watching tonight.
2amloveaffair — depends on your time zone, but it's either on at 8 or 7 where you are. (the first two hours of primetime, followed by The Celebrity Apprentice)
3i'm not sure i'm that interested in this one. i'd rather watch big love.
4I checked the NBC website, it's on at 8.
5I'm watching this now... it's very slow moving at the beginning. I hope it gets better as the show progresses.
6Yeah I've kind of lost interest in it already and it's only been 20 minutes.
7I lasted almost an hour...and I really like Ian McShane....He will always be in Deadwood for me. One damn fine actor !
8I'm still watching...it's not horrible. I might give it another week.
9I watched all of it, I don't think I'll be tuning in again. Way way way too boring.
10i watched the show last night and it wasn't what i expected but i guess there's still time for it to develop. one of the things that i didn't quite get from the show is the plot - i understand the point, but it didn't really go anywhere. at least the previews for the rest of the season make it seem more interesting and intriguing and like there really could be substance to the show. all in all - it's a VERY WELCOME change from all the shows that we've seen lately since they are all the same - and this is a fresh topic/genre
11It seems like I'm the only one, but I really enjoyed the show last night. I'm looking forward to seeing it again.
12It was okay. I might watch it if I have nothing better to do, but it is not a 'must see' for me.
13I really enjoyed the show... I will definetly tune in next Sunday. Gives me something to watch while waiting for U.S. of Tara
14I am watching it on hulu.com!!! I love it. It's good so far!
15I refuse to judge or write off a show after only seeing 10% of what has been scheduled so I shall stick with it as long as NBC keeps showing it. That said I always enjoy watching Ian McShane and Eamonn Walker. AND I am intrigued by David and his development...right now he's all wide eyed innocent BUT when he finally learns the ropes of handling power and powerful people I believe he'll be a force to reckon with. Loved the scene between David and the king's daughter when she came across him playing a Liszt tune on the piano.
16I liked it. It's very well done- good acting and great art direction. I'd watch Ian McShane in almost anything. I just wonder what direction the show is going to go in because every character seems to have a huge storyline/backstory and huge potential.
17I really like this show. I've been watching it on hulu and its beautiful even online. Defiantly recommend it!
