This week's Ugly Betty comes with a super-special treat: Christine Baranski! Honestly, once Baranski's involved with something I'm hard-pressed to be very critical of it. She is pitch-perfect as Betty's new boyfriend's upper-crust snob of a mother who disapproves of our young heroine. As usual, Betty is desperate to please, but winning over Matt's mom looks like it's going to be an uphill battle.

Meanwhile, Hilda reluctantly accepts love into her life post married dude, Daniel wants to fight Molly's cancer, and Wilhelmina faces losing her daily champagne and caviar snack in the wake of the financial crisis plaguing Mode. Fun episode, so let's talk about it! Just read more.
- Matt's now comfortable having breakfast at Casa Suarez even though Betty's not calling him her boyfriend yet. Justin asks totally inappropriate questions like, "How rich are you? How much money do you really have?"
- Another fella who pops by in the morning is Archie (Ralph Macchio)! I was concerned they might not make him a love interest of Hilda's so I'm glad he's back. How cute is it that he shows up for haircuts?
- Oh, snap. Hilda tells Betty she's not sure about Archie, saying, "He's missing something," to which Betty responds, "What, like a wedding ring like your last boyfriend?"
- One of the funniest lines of the night comes from Wilhelmina when she tells a photographer how much she loved his Brad and Angelina Brady Bunch shoot, and then asks, "How on earth did you get Jennifer Aniston to play Alice?!"
- Matt does weird stuff. First, he forgets his wallet all the time, then he does the shady secret check to Betty's family thing, and then he just sort of lies about telling his mom about Betty and even tells the whole Suarez family his mother says Betty sounds like the daughter she never had.
- Later, after an awkward run-in with Matt's mom, in which she mistakes Betty for a member of her domestic staff, we learn Matt lied. Betty kind of brushes this off, but Matt's becoming someone who seems really comfortable lying, which is worrisome. I'm trying to keep an open mind, though, because he looks like Josh Groban and seems to really like Betty.
- Oh man, and the whole Willie's-out-of-money bit was killing me all night. I love this line of Marc's: "Willie! Selling your possessions? Isn't that like one rung up from being on a reality show?"
- When Marc finds her in bed with all of her furs I died of laughter. That's the Wilhelmina Slater I love.
- I also enjoy Amanda's uncanny ability to boil down Betty's relationship to a tacky stereotype, citing Betty's potential entrance into the "Golddigger Hall of Fame."
- Claire is so cute and surrogate motherish to Betty. I love her anecdote about attending an Arianna Huffington party with torture as its "topic," saying with glee, "We waterboarded Liz Smith." Ha! There's a visual.
- Back home, Ignacio has invited Archie to dinner unbeknownst to Hilda who gets pretty stressed about it. Enter Justin handing her a glass of wine: "Mom, here's your medication." I hope and pray I raise a son as knowing as Justin one day.
- Another good quote? Marc nicknaming Daniel "the boy blunder." Fun times with wordplay.
In the end Matt stands up to his mom, but I still can't tell if Victoria is someone who will respect Betty's chutzpah or if she subscribes to the Wilhelmina Slater theory of winning at all costs — even if it's immoral and evil. Time will tell. Also, Molly and Daniel. Man that's boring. I mean, it's sad but this whole "live life to the fullest" thing is sort of clunker of a subplot in the midst of fun, pointed stuff like Willie lying in a bed of fur coats in the middle of an economic meltdown.

"Matt does weird stuff" " "...Matt's becoming someone who seems really comfortable lying" - you can say that twice, have you seen the sneak peak on next week?!?! Apparently he has a girlfriend! Maybe he is using Betty to show his mom, who hasn't accepted yet the blonde he's kissing, that he can do worse...hmmmm
1i could tell hilda's belly is starting to grow
2I love Christine Baranski too! She is amazing.
3I hate Betty. She needs to be eliminated from this show. Get a makeover! It's not realistic that she looks so hideous and keeps getting boyfriends.
4I am about to give up on this show because Betty annoys me so much, but the supporting characters keep me coming back! I loved Justin's lines about Barney's and the little bit of Amanda we got to see. And I love Willy and Mark's interactions.
Betty, on the other hand, irked me, as usual. Her naivete used to be part of her charm, but now it just gets on my nerves. I mean, would she seriously be surprised that her boyfriend's billionaire mother didn't want him dating her?
5Hilda's belly was on full display tonight! That's okay though because it's adorable.
Honestly, Justin is the best person ever! He just makes me so happy. I liked what he said about hockey (all that ice and no one is figure skating - paraphrase) and how he was going to hate himself in the morning but was going to enjoy a new potato - he is amazing
6And fleur, I completely agree about the makeover. The dress she wore to the dinner party wasn't half bad, but I refuse to believe that she would work at a fashion magazine as long as she has and still dress the way she does and have such horrible hair. And honestly, isn't it high time they ditched the braces?
7Yeah, I find Betty & Daniel the most boring on the show...I liked last weeks episode much better because there was so much of Mark & Amanda! I also found Betty's dad's girlfriend annoying last night...can't remember her name, but she can go!
8I loved the Councilman--Archie, right? They were so awkwardly cute together because they were set up. I loved at the end when he "asks" her out, and Ignacio and Elena come running back into the room, and Hilda says "Ai, please" I loved it! I want to see this story line more than Betty and Matt's. I love Matt, but don't you think their relationship is going too fast?? And it was kind of predictable that he would stick up for her in front of his mom... that plot was just to predictable. I also agree, Betty needs to get a better wardrobe. She can have weird things on once in while, but she has been working at Mode for a long time now, she could at least have a couple of decent things.
9I love Mark and Amanda! They should seriously be on the show more than just sub-plots.
wait??!! Betty has a new boyfriend?
10I gave up on Betty this season b/c she became too annoying... but this update piqued my interest.
thanks, Buzz.
Couldn't watch Betty's dinner with Matt and his mom- too uncomfortable for me!
11Any hooray Archie! I was praying he would come back. Just the other day I was thinking they let that part of the show die off.
haha well they cant get rid of betty...as its titled Ugly BETTY...but I agree...I don't think a whole makeover is need (i.e. devil wears prada) but the braces do need to go--its unrealistic that they would be on this long. once those are gone they could gradually work with the hair!
the one liners u mentioned buzz were hilarious!
where was willi's baby???
12I agree that they could "spruce up" Betty just a bit. I don't want them to turn her into a Mode robot by any means, so I wouldn't want them to do TOO much. I still want her to keep her quirky style, but I think the braces should go, the hair should be a little more...well, together. I think it'd be realistic that she would feel better if she looked a little more pulled together. Again, I don't want her to look like a Mode girl, but I'd like to see her care just a little bit more about the way she looks.
13I also agree her naivete is getting a bit annoying. It's just gotten blown out of proportion; she's acting too much like a child. I notice that's a slippery slope in tv shows a lot of the time--a character will have a unique and interesting personality but as the show continues the character becomes like a caricature of her or his former self. Maybe because they just start trying too hard because they want to keep the show going.
I wonder if the woman Matt is hugging in the preview is his therapist or something? I don't know. They love to mislead in the previews. Maybe it's hopeful thinking because I would like to see him turn out to be a genuinely good guy; it'd be nice to see Betty be in a relationship for a while. And I like him as a character except for these little hints that he's a liar and such.
Best line from Wili was, "Mark you better have not taken a picture of me with your phone, or I will kill you and eat you!"
14I actually really liked this episode, but it was all about the supporting cast... At least Betty didn't do anything insanely stupid.
15I was wondering where the baby was too!!!
OMG Willie in bed covered by her things was so funny.
A lot of great one liners last night. Sad that there is only 1 more episode left for a while. I will miss this show, not so much because of Betty but because of everyone else.
16I agree that Betty is boring, and so is Daniel's storyline. I can't get enough of Hilda, she's my favorite, and FINALLY! Archie is back, they were awkwardly cute!
I didn't pat attention to Hilda's belly but I'm going to check my DVR to see it! Willie's
storyline was hilarious, I love despite her evil tactics, she's really lovable. Christine Baranski is awesome, I want her to appear more on this show, she fits right in.
17Personally, I still love Betty, watched it every week, and even though there's a dip in quality a few weeks ago, but I think it is back on track. At least I think it's better than Housewives, which I stopped watching when plots get repetitive. Personally, I don't think Betty is annoying. She might be over-earnest, and naive, but I would rather have someone like her as a friend than some back-stabbing "friend". Love the new guy, he's sooooo dorky and cute:)
18I can't wait for Betty's make over next week, and then no more Betty until the fall:(
I did have a "yes" moment when the fabulous Judith Frost (?) tells Betty to grow up because you don't need everyone to love you.
I can't belive that any men would be attracted to Betty or want to be seen in public with her. Not just because she dress horribly and has nasty hair and braces. But she doesn't have an attractive demeanor and has the maturity of a 12 years-old.
19Okay it makes no sense that Betty's sister is a hairstylist yet makes no attempt to fix Betty's god awful mop... It bothers me every episode!
20Me too, PirateKitty!
