American Idol brought back the wild card format this year, and that meant Thursday's show wrapped up the semifinal round with the eight contestants you see above singing one more time on the Idol stage. So, which three claimed the final spots in the top 12 and will sing live again on Tuesday? To find out, just read more.
Well, surpriiiiiiise, America! This year, we have ourselves a top 13. And here they are:

Can you pick out the new faces? The additions after Thursday's sudden-death round were Jasmine Murray, Megan Corkrey, Matt Giraud, and Anoop Desai, who made it in after a last-minute reveal of the "13th finalist" twist that my DVR stupidly failed to record, d'oh.
After watching Thursday's performances, I think those are definitely the right four. Jesse Langseth was close to a spot after a performance full of swagger, but musically she's pretty similar to Alexis Grace, and Ricky probably had a decent shot but wasn't as vocally competent as Matt or as full of personality as Anoop.
As for the four who did make it, Matt went back to his soulful self, a Timberfake who can riff with the best of 'em. Anoop totally tore up the stage on "My Prerogative," though I think he's reverting to his a capella roots a little by letting the backup singers carry big parts of the song; he's got to fix that to keep advancing. Megan continued to dance awkwardly but sing intriguingly on "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" (she's interesting enough that I bet even if she gets kicked off next week, she'll get a record deal). And Jasmine ignored the judges' advice to go the pop/Rihanna route, instead went the pop/Christina route, and managed to pull off "Reflection" with a surprisingly big voice for a 16-year-old.
A couple of other quick thoughts:
- The judges never intended for Tatiana to get through, did they? Honestly, her singing was pretty darn good, but the comments immediately showed that they find her too personally repellent to keep her around. I kind of feel bad for the girl; did anyone else sense a sort of apology when Paula said they'd "had fun with" her?
- Most out-of-place wild card finalist? Von Smith. He just seemed outclassed, and I'd so much rather have seen Ju'Not again.
- Wow, Allison Iraheta was thrilled to see Jasmine make the top 12! That's definitely the most personality we've seen from her so far.
- We know the Idol finale is on May 19, and there aren't enough weeks to get down to two finalists if the eliminations proceed as normal. So I expect one of two things will happen: Either three singers will perform in the finale, or one week will have a double elimination. I suspect it's the latter, but you?
How do you feel about the wild card? Did the right people get through? Were you surprised by the extra finalist twist? And why can't Fox do a live show that actually ends on time, ever? I really should have learned my lesson by now.

I was pleasantly surprised and happy with this group. I still don't understand why the judges are such Jasmine fans though. She is boring and there are a MILLION other singers just like her with a better voice. My DVR didn't record the end either so I had no idea who made it through. DAMN fox. It's the only show and only channel I have this problem with!!
1Oh and Michael Sarver is the first to go
2I really don't see the whole deal with Megan. Yes, she's different, but sometimes it gets a little too forced. They mentioned that she's a Duffy/Adele/Winehouse type, but honestly, do we need another one of those?
3I felt sorry for Tatiana (I know). They just used the loonie for some laughs. I'd rather seen her go last week, when she was trying to be a singer and not a clown. So this week, here she is, again, killing the song and losing the respect that few had for her.
And of course, Mr Personality, Anoop. Yay!! Happy to see him up there, he has more charisma than all the others combined.
And also... Is it bad that everytime that I look at Adam I think of glitters and desert?
4I'm fairly happy with the choices. But, I'm pretty convinced the four of them were picked long before they ever sang last night.
I wouldn't have minded seeing Jesse instead of Jasmine, but I don't dislike Jasmine, either.
5ugh I completely agree with you alesimas. I'm not a Megan fan, there are so many people who sing that type of music better. Yes she's not super poppy but she also doesn't have a great voice and disguises it with "quirky-ness"
Love me some Anoop
6I missed the twist, too, because AI was cutting into The Office. But I'm glad they let the piano player go through as well as Anoop, even though I wasn't wild about his "My Prerogative." I would have liked the judges to have given Ju'Not another chance b/c Von Smith was not one of my favorites, although my fiance liked him and was glad to see him back...until he started singing.
7I'm not looking forward to seeing Megan and her weird dancing....if you can even call it that. I'm not a big fan of Jasmine either, she is boring to me.
I was happy with the guys that made it.
8For some reason I ALWAYS had a feeling they would pick four wildcards--because there were four judges.
I like Megan--they def. needed at least two girls, so I'm glad shes one of them (more so then that red head girl who sang Bette Davis last week). I wouldn't have minded seeing Megan and the blonde that sang country, but oh well--they love Jasmine.
Maybe Tatiana really did have a chance, though I doubt it, but she lost it when she sang the same song for the THIRD (not second) time--shes ridic.
I knew it was between Anoop, Matt and Jesse and the two girls. I'm glad they picked Anoop!
Luckily I tape Hell's Kitchen, so I didn't miss it!
9
for Matt and Anoop! I was also dying when Randy called Anoop "Anoop Brown Dog". I'm
pretty sure Anoop thought he meant brown as in color, and not Brown as in Bobby, so that cracked me up.
10I agree Happsmjc. I thought there would be 4 b/c of the 4 judges.
I'm happy with the Wild Card picks but would trade Jasmine for Ricky in a heartbeat.
I'm still bitter that Von Smith was there instead of Felicia!!
LAME
My guess is that Jasmine will be the first one out next week. I just don't get the big deal.
11ANOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP! So happy for Anoop. So happy.
And I love Megan Corkrey, so I just hope to God that someone teaches her how to move to music at some point along her Idol journey.
12LaurenG22, i agree with you 100% about Jasmine. I wish judges chose Ricky instead.
13I was not surprised at all with the "13" twist. I knew there will be 13, as soon as Simon praised Jasmine. Matt and Anoop were inevitable, and there had to be at least two girls to correct the imbalance.
i was happy with the four, although i wanted ju'not to have been place instead of von.
14I also agree with everyone here that Von was out of place and it should've been Ju'not there. However, I'm really happy about the wild card spots (maybe Matt for Ju'not, but whatever). I figured Jasmine would get through because they do need more girls and she's so commercial. I was really rooting for Megan, I love how different she is from the others. Also, I'm a big fan of the "british" style of Adele/Kate Nash etc and she is so current. And of course, I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Anoop!
15They totally just brought back Tatiana just to mess with her head... That's just mean
16Anoop is my new crush. Why is that? He looks just like every guy I went to high school with? Something cute about that nerdy, buttoned-up thing he has.
17I am not sure what the judges see in Megan. They make fun everyone elses dance moves but her body making weird movements- her hands on the hips and her never holding the microphone is weird.
18I was a fan of Matt so I am so happy that he has made it back. I didn't think any of the girls were that great in the wild card. I was also a fan of Rickie Braddy but sadly he didn't make it- he didn't get enough exposure in Hollywood which sucks because if he had then he would have gotten more votes.
I'm starting to think Tatiana only knows one song. I am so happy she's not in the top 12...er...13.
Overall, I think I'm pretty happy with the top 13. Adam, Matt, Kris and Anoop are all there, so I can't really complain. There are a few people I'm not happy with, but with any luck, they'll be the first ones to go. My guess is that they'll do a double elimination either next week or somewhere in the middle.
I figured once it came down to Matt and Anoop, they'd put them both through. I'm happy they did, because I adore both of them. They both belong in the top 12/13.
19I have no issues with who they chose !!! Yay !!!
Now that Von, his hair reminded me of someone from the Little Rascals !
20Yes Anoop and Scott!
