She's not playing Joan Jett herself — that role has gone to Kristen Stewart — but Dakota Fanning is in talks to join the cast of The Runaways as the lead singer of Jett's all-girl band. Here's more:
At 15, Fanning is the same age [Cherie] Currie was when she made her debut with the Runaways as the lead singer who belted out hard-edged tunes like "Cherry Bomb." Currie became caught up in drugs and a hard-partying lifestyle.
Now, I know Fanning has done dark stuff as she's gotten older and moved away from some of the precious little girl roles, but a hard-partying rocker? I'll be very curious to see how this turns out. In general, I'm fascinated by Fanning's career as she transitions into adulthood as it's a rocky path that not every actor seems to be able to navigate. Do you think Fanning is able to pull off these heavier, tougher roles?

I think Dakota Fanning is an awesome actress and she's done some dark stuff already, I am sure she can pull it off.

5well i think that dakota is really trying to make sure that people don't realize that she's all this sweet and whatever..but i think that she should realize that there are enough 'dark' actresses out there (i.e. Evan Rachel Wood, Kristen etc) that she could find her niche and be VERY successful in sweeter roles.
6DAkota is trying to step into these big roles but I still picture here as a little girl. She is still so young.

10Dakota is a great actress, but I'd cast Evan Rachel Wood. Looks like the original character and she has both a 'teen' and 'vamp' side to her... Casting Evan Rachel Wood would be typecasting, but they don't call it 'type' casting for nothing..

19Kristen Stewart got to be one of the worst actresses I've ever seen, plus has no charisma and is not likable at all. Dakota is better than Kristen, she can pull it off.

26Hell yeah Dakota has more talent than most "actors" working right now.
27Now I'm not world's biggest Kristen Stewart fan and I've only seen Twilight once (trust me, that's a lot less than my friends) and maybe it's just the two pictures, but she (Kristen) actually looks a bit like Joan Jett (on the pictures above, anyway)!

29I hate Kristen Stewart. The girl can only conjure up one personality. Dakota Fanning has got it in her to kill this role. I think that she is an interesting choice for this film.
I'm ok with KS as Joan Jett, and I really hope Dakota can pull this off. I have detested her cutesy-ness for years. It would be nice to see her do something different and change my opinion about her.
30DAKOTA?! Ew, come on! Taylor Momsen would be so much better, considering her lifestyle is exactly the same as Cherie's.
