Good thing The Simpsons invested in some new opening credits, because apparently they'll be in use for a while: Fox has renewed the show for two more seasons totaling 44 episodes.
That'll make The Simpsons the longest-running primetime show in TV history with 22 seasons under its belt. But it will have a ways to go before it has the most episodes of any primetime series: Gunsmoke was only on for 20 years (heh, yeah, "only") but produced 635 episodes, while Homer and co. are just shy of 500.
Still, that's a mighty impressive mark for some animated characters from Springfield. So, what do you make of the news?

i like the simpsons a lot, ill be sad if it ever gets canceled : (
1never watched a single episode, don't ever care to - so i don't care.
2Ugh, they need to let it go. Seasons 3-8 were PHENOMENAL but it's been downhill ever since. Now, every time I watch a newish episode, it's painful. Just not funny. I haven't seen a good episode in like 10 years.
3It's well beyond the point of bowing out gracefully so they might as well keep it going as long as they can. Though it may be bordering on cultural irrelevance, The Simpsons is still better than most of the schlock on TV. Groening, Brooks, Shearer, Azaria, Castellaneta, et al.: go on, take the money and run.
4I still love it.
5I love the Simpson.
6I thought they were going out with the movie, what ever happened to that? Is it because the movie wasn't that great?
7this show hasnt been funny in 10 years, it needs to die.
8I haven't watched it in so long!
9I still love it to death so this is really good news to me
10And I love Bart's pose in that picture...lol!
11I love it. It never gets old to me because they change with pop culture, so it can't really get old unless you just don't like their brand of humor or cartoons in general.
12I've never been a huge enough Simpsons fan to commit to DVRing it or anything, but I'll catch an episode occasionally. I think the older episodes are a bit better, but some of the newer ones have made me laugh, too.
13i looooove the simpsons
but the writing has just gotten terrible, there is maybe 1 big laugh per show at best
14the movie was also mostly a big disappointment
it's time to put it to rest before it gets too embarassing for them
I'll still watch, but I agree that they're nothing like they used to be. I'm hoping the writing improves a bit in the new season.
15I love the Simpsons but the last couple of seasons haven't been funny. I think it's time to end it.
16I might be the only person alive who hates this show...always have.
17Don't really care.
18Love The Simpsons! It has truly ebbed and flowed with the years, but it manages to come back to something funny and relevant (at least for me.) South Park is the same way - there are episodes that are funnier than others, sometimes I wind up thinking "what did I just watch?" and other times it's just weird to me, but they usually come back to something funny. I think the funniest episodes of either show are the ones that don't try to be so "relevant" and just go for funny.
