Casting rumors about the new Gossip Girl spinoff swirled earlier today and now we've got some confirmation: Brittany Snow has been offered the role of young Lily!
We already knew Krysten Ritter would be playing her older sister, and in addition to finding Lily, the show's creators also cast Shiloh Fernandez as Owen, "a hot Valley punk guy with a caustic wit." Here's a new rundown of the show's plot from The Hollywood Reporter:
Overnight, Lily has to transition from a life of luxury and education at a wealthy Montecito boarding school to living deep in the San Fernando Valley she once made fun of and going to public school. Caught between two worlds, Lily dives into the fast-paced Sunset Strip and the Hollywood lifestyle of the '80s, journeying over the hill to a world of wealth and excess that used to be her own.
I enjoyed Snow on American Dreams, and I'm going to keep an open mind about her in this role, but I want to hear from you — is Snow the right fit? Can you picture her as an '80s wild child in Los Angeles? We'll get our first look at her in the role during a special Gossip Girl episode May 11 — which, incidentally, will also feature No Doubt.

1That's what the show is about?? I was kind of hoping it be about Lily and her drama with her uptight mother and rebelling by going out with rock stars (i.e. Rufus!). The plot is...meh.
2I don't know about Brittany Snow playing Lily....it just doesn't seem right. But I like Krysten Ritter and GG, so I'll check it out.
I don't really see Brittany Snow as Lily, like, at all, but I'll try to keep an open mind and give her a shot.
3Brittany Snow has a lot of potential, but she hasn't been well cast in her movie roles. She was great in American Dreams; hopefully, the return to television will serve her well.

8she was convincing in nip/tuck as an intense actress. she can play up the flirty side like how she did in john tucker must die. i'll definitely tune in for the premiere!
9I really like Brittany Snow and I could totally see her in the role, but I wonder if she has the acting chops. I know now-a-days a lot of casting people don't care (consider the brilliant actors of the new 90210 - it's seriously painful to watch), but this is a part that requires some serious acting, and I just really hope they won't disappoint...

I am excited to see Brittany Snow as Lily, but I'm not really sure I like the whole concept of the show. I just feel like New York and LA are such different worlds; I wish it were set in New York instead.

15well i'm not sure that i'm totally sold on the whole idea of the spinoff since i've lost interest in GG this season, so i can only say that hopefully she'll do a good job. it's a lofty goal that they have here to make a success prequel to the show.
16Lily is a lot like Blair where they have a soft quiet side to them but can get a little wild too.
17I think Britney is capable of it but we are just so use to seeing her play the cute roles in American Dreams and Hairspray. I will give her a shot!

21I don't care much for her either way, but I think she looks too old for high school. An unknown actress would have been a better choice I think
