From the first moment I heard Emily King compared to Amy Winehouse, I knew I should be on alert for another breakout star. Indeed, you might call King a more wholesome, American version of Winehouse — or, if you prefer, R&B's answer to Regina Spektor. Either way, I think the the 21-year-old New Yorker is going to go far.
The daughter of an African-American father and an Italian mother — both singers — King grew up on the Lower East Side and in jazz clubs, which helped shape her soulful but sassy sound. Her debut album, East Side Story, comes out August 14 on J Records. And already, she's on tour for much of the Summer. Definitely soulful!
1she kind of looks like jennifer biel. or is it biels?
2Nah, not into it.
3It's a little bland.
I don't know why anyone would compare her to Amy Winehouse! Its funny how when a new artist makes it big, everyone starts comparing others to them even when they have nothing in common!
4Really, Emily sounds like a newer version of Alicia Keys. I am not really feeling the song, but maybe her album will have more to offer.
I like the song, i understand what she's singing about indeed but obviously as usual some people wouldnt get it or dont feel so comfy on certain topics,i hope she continues to do good and be better..all the best!
5Oh and she's so gorgeous too!
6okay my last post!
...i LOVEEE Regina Specktor i cant believe she
been around since 2001,oh well....she's another gorgeous amazing talent, i love these women that have a certain sound like Emily King,Regina Spektor,Corinne Bailey Rae, Natasha
Bedingfield,Keisha White, John Legend, Lemar, Lily Allen etc. I really prefer the talent and voices of the UK ladies though but i love something different more, thats sweet and i like that
majority of their influences came from American Black women and men that brought out this whole jazzy soulful upbeat..just so much talent and now it's all being reinvented like how Blake(AI)
would do it...more or less lol
, Those great talented Black
Americans that have been such an influence to many around the world...the best singers of whatever colour were from the 1940s to the 1980s now it looks like that same great talent and beauty
and amazement is coming back through all these youngsters.
very
nice indeed.
7I really like this song. Thanks, Buzz.
8I really like Emily King, although that is a good song I don't think it's the best one. I would suggest people look up "Walk in my shoes" and "You and I". I don't get the Amy Whinehouse comparison, they are very different! But whatever, if it gets a good new artist some attention, so be it.
