In his IMDB bio, Judd Apatow is quoted as saying, "I think that everything I do tends to root for the underdog. I always felt as a kid that I was under appreciated, invisible or weird, but I've always secretly thought people would one day appreciate what is different about me. I'm always putting that message out there. Eventually, the nerds and the geeks will have their day."
Well, if Judd Apatow, writer/director of today's new comedy Knocked Up was unappreciated as a geeky kid, then he is now the epitome of the underdog success story.
Years before Knocked Up was even a glimmer in Apatow's eye, though, he created "Freaks and Geeks," the short-lived TV series made to comfort and entertain high school underdogs everywhere.
The show follows siblings Lindsay and Sam Weir, both of whom are on the outskirts of cool at their Michigan high school circa 1980. The writing is smart and funny in the way we've now come to expect of Judd Apatow, and the cast (which includes James Franco and Seth Rogen, among other funny and personable actors) is superb. Even if you were neither freak nor geek in high school, there is so much to love about this show.

I used to love this show when it was on TV...might have to get a Nexflix subscription!
1O wow, I didn't realize he did this. Me and my boyfriend are going to watch it tonight Buzz. I know I love it as much as you did
. I love this show when it was on tv. I actually found the completion in my boyfriend's DVD
collection. I told him I watched it before it got canceled, he was surprised I caught that gem before it got kicked off.
2*I hope
3oh man looking at this cast photo I never realized how many people in this I recognize from other movies and tv!
4Good show.
5JAMES FRANCO as Daniel Desario is the only reason I went out & bought this TV series!! I was pleasantly surprised at how intrigued I became by EVERYBODY in the cast, from freak to geek! I used to couldn't stand Kim Kelly but after watching the episode about her home-life, I got it. She's a product of her unhappy home & takes it out on everyone. Not that that's cool, but at least we now know what her problem is.
6F&G still rules!
I loved this show when it was on, and used to watch the reruns on cable. One day I'm just going to buy the series.
7This is one of my favorite shows ever - if not my favorite. A friend gave me the boxed set a few years ago as a gift because I was always talking about the show but had only seen two episodes. At this point, the box set has be shared with about 20 people who all adored it. Apatow pretty much is a genius and the cast is amazing.
8I'm one of those 20 people Geek lent her DVDs too. At first I was like, okay fine i'll watch. a bajillion hours later (all in a row), the whole thing was done and I wanted more! Great show!
9Marshall from How I met your Mother is in this picture..the tall one in the back...and its kinda fun that both Marshall and Seth Rogan are in Knocked Up also! He's sticking with the same actors!
10F & G was the best show ever. I try to kick in an episode at least once a week. I can't believe they canceled that show but manage to keep all those reality shows and especially "you think you can dance." Yet because of a controversial episode that showed a little weed they canceled one of the best shows of the 90s. Busy Phillipes was actually on a recent Entourage I don't really know about her acting abilities, she was still playing Kim Kelly once again.
11I love this show!! I got the whole series on my birthday last year! Great, short lived show. All the best shows about being a teenager (that were REAL), lasted one season. Like My So-Called Life. It's coming out on DVD!! YES!!!!!!
12I used to watch this show, and JUST realized looking at the pic that it was Jason Segel (Marshall from HIMYM) This and Undeclared were AWESOME! Thank God for Netflix!
13I LOVED Freaks and Geeks. Loved. Capital L. I was so disappointed when it went off the air because it was one of the best shows on tv then. Bill is my absolute favorite. I'm so glad you mentioned this show because it is a little known but awesome show!
14I loved this show and Judd was wonderful at both creating it and starring in it!
