I keep thinking about this great scene in The Wrestler between Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei's characters in a bar. I won't give it away for those who haven't seen the movie yet but it involves some funny dialogue between the two about the decade they agree was the best. It's a small, intimate moment rendered so perfectly that you completely forget you're watching two actors — it feels more like overhearing a conversation at your local dive bar.
Sometimes a movie contains a scene so well-done it has the power to stick around in our minds for years and years. Like one of the most romantic scenes in Wall-E: Eve and Wall-E's dance among the stars. So. Freaking. Cute. Not to mention beautiful. And Happy Go-Lucky contains an intense scene between the main character and her driving instructor that's so unsettling it will take me a long time to shake it off.
Sometimes I think there should be an Academy Award category for Best Scene! What do you think? Which scenes from this year's Oscar-nominated films stick out to you the most?

I am certain I must be the only one who thought Wall-E was too depressing to enjoy.
1Although it was DISGUSTING, the scene in Slumdog with the movie star and the port-o-potty was cute and hilarious.
The final scene in Milk was beautiful and touching.
2I also loved that scene in Happy-Go-Lucky. That scene alone made me love the movie.
3The opening scene from Tropic Thunder, especially the exchange between Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. Maybe not so much for Ben Stiller, but it definitely showed RDJ's brilliance! I thought it was one of his best scenes in the movie.
4Definitely agree the bar scene in The Wrestler was funny and intimate.
The porta-potty “Amitab Bachchan!” scene in Slumdog was sweet, funny and totally gross
The climax scene between Poppy & Scott in Happy-Go-Lucky really shook me up – but there were some other great scenes as well – esp during the flamenco dancing scenes!
5I simply LOVE the scene on Benjamin Button's that Daisy is old and walking with Button as a child, and kisses his forehead.
6And I as a credits rolling, nothing was as powerful as Little Person playing in the end of Synecdoche New York.
lol at the port-a-potty scene in slumdog...but my favorite moment was actually just when i realized i knew what the last question was and i knew (just based on reviews and commercials) what was gonna happen and was still happy and not at all disappointed.
7In The Reader, the part when Kate Winslet is on trial and they want a handwriting sample.
And even though Revolutionary Road wasn't nominated for best pic, the dinner scene where Kate stays sitting down and everyone else is up and moving around. To me that was the most powerful scene.
hm...for some reason the first scene i thought of was Heath Ledger as the Joker walking out of the hospital he was about to blow up in "Dark Knight." Walking out in the nurse's outfit, not saying anything, just sort awkwardly shuffling in the signature Joker's gait, then turning and smacking the detonator trying to get it to work. Heath's body language in that scene was priceless.
