This is a bold statement, but I'm going to make it: I have never been disappointed by a New Pornographers album. Even when I wasn't blown away by individual songs on first listen, the albums as a whole hold up to multiple — and I mean, really multiple — listens. Needless to say, I'm very excited to hear the Canadian supergroup's next release, Challengers, which comes out in August and features the usual suspects, including Neko Case, AC Newman, and Dan Bejar of Destroyer.

An early track off the album, called "My Rights Versus Yours," premiered on Pitchfork yesterday, and I like the new direction the band takes here. The mid-tempo, slightly grumbling tune is less manic than some of the New Pornographer's earlier work, and I love the muted brass and gentle vocals. It hasn't changed my life or anything, but the album still might. Listen and tell me what you think when you read more
