It's officially official: The Sex and the City sequel is so happening and might be in theaters by 2010. When the first movie came out, it broke records and reminded the folks who rule Hollywood that hey, look at that, you can have a cast full of women over 30 years old and it will still be successful.

And while that's cause for celebration, it would be cool to improve upon that first movie, since as long as we're all shelling out the box office cash to see these beloved characters, we should get a quality film. So, let's chime in on what we're looking for in a SATC sequel. I'll start:
First of all, I can't deal with any more Big drama. They can't have him screw her over any more, right? Secondly, I hope they find something a little more meaningful for these characters to strive for beyond "labels and love." But! That doesn't mean they have to go plain Jane on the fashion. I want to see fabulous outfits, just without the tacky label dropping. Carrie did a lot of thrift shopping in the series, they should get back to that. Finally, I say "nay" to Carrie having a kid. There just has to be something else she can do.
You all told me you wanted this sequel so now that it's definitely coming, it's your turn to sound off. What do you want it to look like? What could they do with the story at this point?

I don't want a sequel! i had a hard enough time with miranda's storyline in the first movie, I really like Miranda and it was hard to sit through because you want them to be happy! they are going to have to create drama in their lives and i don't think I can deal with it.
1as far as a sequel...ugh. i wish they would do more of a pre-quel. i want to see how the girls met and their beginnings. i know i'll watch it whatever it is about..i'm too big of a fan not to!
i just dunno if i can take big screwing over carrie one more time. and samantha is 50 and still sleeping around...i accept that she'll probably always be single, but come on, is her cancer coming back? miranda-another kid? another affair?
2i've been thinking about this one for a while. first, i wonder if they would think about expanding on Big's character more and let us see more of what he DOES and how carrie would fit into his life...and maybe incorporate a baby.
I think that the plot that i'd love to see more of is everyone at WORK - doing something, and how maybe it can all be connected that way some how. that's something that's always been in the background because it shaped the characters...
3I think a prequel would be a fabulous idea!
I think that the first movie was VERY disappointing and I agree with most of what you said, Buzz. NO MORE Big drama! Every time he screwed her over and she took him back, I lost a little bit of respect for Carrie. And that's throughout the whole series, not just the movie.
But what else are they going to do? I like the fact that Samantha is a middle-aged woman who is still confident and sexually adventurous, but do we need to SEE it? I think not. And Charlotte and Harry are super happy, blah blah blah. And Miranda was always my favorite, but her storyline in the movie was so boring.
They should never have made the first movie. The second movie is a giant mistake.
4I don't want a prequel or a sequel. I was finished with SATC after the movie. It was all wrapped up with a nice little bow. I don't see how they can take the story any further. I also don't see Carrie and Big having a baby... they just don't strike me as a kid couple.
5Well... Big and Carrie are married. Why can't they just be married and leave it at that and have the other girls with all the man problems? Geesh, the more I type the worse this movie sounds to me.
6The sequel doesn't interest me at all. Enough is enough; some things should just be left where they are. I wasn't all that impressed with the first movie; I really don't expect the sequel to be any better.
7I don't think there should be a sequel. It will be like beating a dead horse. Nothing more can be done for any of these characters. Go out while you still have dignity, ladies!
8I actually don't want a sequel. The last movie was good closure, and anything more seems like overkill.
9i liked the first movie, but was hoping to LOVE it. a prequel would be awesome!
if the girls took a vacation or did something that surrounded a specific event - a baby? a new job? retirement? something like that would be great. just give the girls a chance to interact and have fun.
with the recession and changes in politics, it will be interesting to see if they touch that or leave it to the 'fantasy' of it all.
10I'm still actually upset at the stars and writers/producers for getting behind this project. What happened to maintaining the integrity of the characters? Seriously, what other stories do you have to tell? I say no to another movie. I'd much rather remember the show itself in its glory days.

12i like the prequel idea except for the fact i wouldn't want to see any other actresses playing the characters. i'm not sure about a 2nd movie. i loved the series and i liked the first one, but i'm not sure what is left to tell.
13They could focus on Charlotte and Harry more. How she is coping raising two kids. Show how married life is for Carrie and Big. Samantha could finally have a lasting relationship with a man her own age, like Tom Seleck.
14and They Could have Miranda be happy with steven.
The first movie left a sour taste in my mouth because it had people doing things that were so uncharacteristic of them (steve cheating on miranda, smith being careless). The only way this second movie can be better is if they hire some female writers instead of just mpk 'cause clearly he doesn't know what he's doing. I think an interesting plotline could be that one of the gals loses her job.
15I don't like the idea of a sequel. Three of them are married and Samantha's 50. They've already run through so many story-lines with these ladies, I think it's going to be hard to find more good ones. I would be way more into a pre-quel, maybe that took place even before the show. Although it would be really hard to find actors to play young Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha. I'm sure I'll still see the sequel when it comes out, though.
16I really wish they didn't do a sequel. The first movie was awful!
17Woohoo! I totally want a sequel. I think it should be a reunion a few years in the future, and then it goes back in time and show what happened in the missing time.
18The movie was such a big disappointment. They totally butchered the characters. It was too commercialized it was PATHETIC. This coming from a die hard fan of the series. So yeah I don't think I'll be watching the sequel
19I'm with Deidre 100%.
I liked the movie okay, it was cute, but I would much rather them having left it alone after the TV show ended. Seriously. I loved the show, was a die-hard fan, and am at peace with the fact that it's OVER. It's just getting silly now.
20I think the sequel is a bad idea. The movie had a nice ending and there doesn't seemt to be anywhere to go from there. I agree with the Big comments, it would just be stupid if they had another movie and ended up with them divorced or something.
21I really like the idea stated above about a prequel, because as much as I love SATC it is beginning to be a bit much - lets keep something to the imagination. But I'd love to see a young Carrie as she first moves to the city and meets the other girls! I will probably wait for this to come on DVD before seeing it, but you never know!
22I think a sequel is a horrible idea in the first place. The show was great and the end of the show was enough to keep you wanting more. But then they made the movie and enough time had gone by for all of us fans of the show to want to know what the girls were up to so it was fantastic to have the whole fanciful world back for that two hours. It was however compeltely predictable and really did pander to the commercial side of the whole thing and not so much the tiny pieces of reall life that were infused throughout the show. Carrie and Big finally got married and I'm happy to have that wind it up. I want to think of them being happy and finally finding what they were looking for in each other. Another movie full of that would be boring and anything else would just ruin the entire franchise. Maybe they should just let sleeping cash cows lie
23The first movie was horrible, so I don't think i would watch a second movie.
24I think the reason that I'm in favor of a sequel is because I loved the series so much. I wish that they would film a seventh season instead of another movie. Aside from the AMAZING fashion, the movie felt awkward. I agree with some of the other comments that the characters did things that wouldn't have happened during the show's original run. I think I'm just nostalgic for new episodes and not a new movie.
25I hope the rumor of Christina Aguilera playing Samantha Jones' sister turns out to be true.
26Samantha needs a family of her own...sure she has the girls but they all have someone at home waiting for them, and 2 of them have kids. A Kid sister in the mix- especially one as fiery and endearing as Christina- would give her an opportunity to be selfless. Maybe this sister recently moved to NY and is struggling with her own labels and loves, and is desperately in need of some guidance. Maybe she starts out frumpy and foolish and gets fabulously remade by her big sis into a mini-me before ultimately finding her true self? We get a make-over, maybe another runway show, and nobody pulls off crazy/sexy/cool fashion, let alone reinventions like Christina!
here's hoping!
I'll probably watch it, but I'll wait until I see the trailer before I decided whether I'll be watching it in theaters or at home.
27I would of course go see it no matter what it's about, but I agree no more Big drama! Maybe he has to go to Paris - but takes her with this time and doesn't ignore her like the Russian did. That would be a nice addition to the long-awaited happy ending. They definitely should not have a baby, but I think Miranda and Steve should have another. And no more cheating from them. Samantha should be planning a big star-studded event and should have a new man closer to her own age. Don't get me wrong, I loved Smith and she was fine bed-hopping, but that's what people would expect from her so why not surprise the audience? And while it was hilarious to watch the reactions, Charlotte should have something more interesting happen to her than crapping her pants.
Wow...didn't realize I was so opinionated on this - maybe I should just write the movie myself!
