Band of Brothers
Seeing as today is Memorial Day, it seems appropos to recommend Band of Brothers, a 10-part series based on the Stephen Ambrose book that follows the Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army during World War II. The product description continues: "They were an elite rifle company parachuting into France early on D-Day morning, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and capturing Hitler's Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden. They were also a unit that suffered 150 percent casualties, and whose lives became legend." The series is remarkable for not just showing wartime in its sweeping and often horrifying grandiosity, but for also reaching depths of poignancy in the tiniest of details and the quietest of moments.

SUCH a great series. My husband owns the boxed set, and whenever we watch it, we just can't stop. Very powerful, so emotional. Who would have thought that about a military show =P
1Absolutely agree - we own the boxed set as well and it is amazing, AMAZING stuff. Each segment is so compelling - we never grow tired of watching it. It is so much more than a historical account and I agree with wowjules, so very powerfully emotional. This is definitely an excellent series to own!
2Best mini-series ever! Best war movie ever! You never get tired of it. All the actors are so wonderful. And the writing is amazing. It makes you understand what war must have been and the connection it created among people.
3This is an awesome set! I bought it for hubby a couple years ago and he's watched it over and over.
4I have this boxed set as well, and I love it. I watched it when it was on HBO too. I love the interviews with the actual surviving soldiers from Easy Company.
