Just like last year, AMC theaters across the country are devoting a day to this year's Oscar nominees for Best Picture. On Saturday Feb. 21 (which is the day before the Oscars), for 30 bucks you can watch each of the nominated films back-to-back and receive a large popcorn with unlimited refills. To find out which theaters are participating, click here. This is the kind of event that makes me swoon. Add in a cocktail service and some cheesecake and I think that might be heaven itself. Though I guess it's also a really long day of sitting and staring at stuff.
The schedule below is the same nationwide, and the times are local:
Milk — 10:30 a.m.
The Reader — 1:05 p.m.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button — 3:45 p.m.
Slumdog Millionaire — 7:15 p.m.
Frost/Nixon — 9:45 p.m.
Do you think that's the best way to order that lineup? Could — or will — you make it through a full day of movies like this?
Pieces
O'Neill
Agent Provocateur
Since I've seen 4 of the 5 ( I was supposed to see the Reader this weekend but I got sick) this will sadly be of no use to me. But I'm surprised that for the first time, I'm dangerously close to seeing all of the nominated films!
1my fiance and I thought this sounded like a good deal, especially since seeing all five movies individually would cost a fortune, but we've already seen Benjamin Button and don't want to sit through it again and seriously... that is over 10 hours. I don't think we could do it.
2I've seen 2 of the 5 and have little interest to see the other 2. I do like this idea though and will need to keep this in mind for future years.
3This sounds like agreat Idea, but you will be their all day just sitting. You will be so stiff when you get out.
4I went last year and I loved it! They give you significant breaks between movies (20 minutes or so, maybe more) so you can get up, stretch, and walk around. Last year I had already seen Juno, but didn't mind seeing it again. This year, I've already seen Benjamin Button, but wouldn't mind seeing that again, either. I had actually waited on seeing the others because I knew I wanted to do this again this year! Additionally, if you've only seen one of the nominated films, it's still a great deal because the pass you get allows you to come and go throughout the day, so you can leave and come back. The theater gives you starting times for each movie, so you don't have to worry about missing out or having to estimate how long a movie will take.
5I also went last year and I had a great time. I didn't find getting stiff a problem because they gave substantial breaks for stretching between each one; plus my theater has trivia during this time. We left during Juno to go eat dinner because we'd seen it before, and we brought subs in for lunch earlier in the day.
I already have my tickets for this year and I haven't seen any of the movies so I'm pretty excited.
6What a great idea. Since I've seen everything except Benjamin Button, I won't take advantage of this viewing, but I love the whole concept.
7I love the idea, but I'm sure I'll be working that day.
8This looks really cool. I have seen Slumdog Millionaire and Benjamin Button but not the other three. Maybe I'll reward myself with this lounging if I do enough workouts before the 21st. And yippee, a theater is doing this that is less than 20 minutes away from me.
9I've seen Slumdog Millionare already and wouldn't mind watching it again. This is an awesome idea! Maybe I can get some people together to watch with me!
10Portland uses Regal as it's major movie theatre, so I don't have the option of this. It seems like an awesome opportunity.
11did this last year! it's a really great time for movie buffs like myself. we're going again this year, so we've not seen any potential oscar movies. they really do give you plenty of time between films, and they let you bring food in. i'll be at the one in tustin, ca for my 12+ hour movie marathon! and what a deal!
12The only one I've seen is Slumdog Millionaire, but I would totally see it again. We just might be doing this! What an awesome idea!
13man, my eyes hurt just thinking about that back-to-back lineup!
14i need to see milk and frost/nixon...and this would be fun...but i refuse to sit through benjamin button again at the theatre

16The only Best Picture nominee I saw was Benjamin Button, and this five-movie deal would have been worth it but I completely forgot about it and I don't think I could sit through that many movies in a row anyway.
