I wonder how many times we'll have to see a womanizing d-bag figure out what love is really about before the whole storyline is retired. In Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, obviously a spoof (or something) on A Christmas Carol, Matthew McConaughey plays a seemingly heinous human being who has been with what appears to be a thousand women. A ghost played by Emma Stone talks to him about his past girlfriends and, along with two other ghosts, ultimately points him in the direction of the one he let get away (or, more accurately, the one he could not run away from quickly enough), played by Jennifer Garner. Lemme guess: She takes back the d-bag even though she still knows he's a d-bag. But as a kid he said he'd keep her picture forever, so it all makes sense.
Except that it doesn't. Michael Douglas also stars as a phantom trying to help this dude find love. Ghosts of Girlfriends Past opens May 1. To please share in my experience of watching this trailer, read more.

Eh...I like both of them, but this sounds kind of silly and predictable.
1Meh. It's sort of an interesting idea, but I feel like they've both already done it - MM as the womanizing jerk and JG as the girl who changes who marries whom.
2I was thinking it would be terrible from the description above, but it seemed pretty cute and silly, the normal chick flick fare. I would see it just because of all the actors in it (Not just McConaughey and Garner, but also Emma Stone who I think is really funny!). It also kind of reminded me of 13 going on 30...
3I wouldn't spend one red cent to see this but that part at the end with the wedding was sooooo funny.
4I mean wedding cake
5Oh Jennifer Garner, you can do so much better than this. And, you know, so could MM, but lately all he's done is Surfer Dude type movies. Shame.
6Not really interested in seeing this in the theater but maybe when it comes out on DVD because it was shot in Boston and I live there.
7Why do they have to put beautiful and talented Jen in movies like this! I can see Matt doing them, he's probably fried every last brain cell he had, but Jennifer is so much better than this!
8Pass.
9she looks really good in that picture. she doesnt even look real!
10I love these kind of movies. They're crap and candy. I'll be there!
11woah where did Michael Douglas come from? Did he accidentally walk on set on his way back home to the Bahamas?
12I think it actually looks cute, and I usually hate mindless chick flick (and Matthew McConaughey for that matter, but he was good in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days). Michael Douglas seems out of place in this movie but I'm excited to see Jennifer Garner, Emma Stone, Lacey Chabert, and Breckin Meyer in this film. The concept is cute albeit a little predictable. I'll probably check out this movie with one of my girlfriends.
13It's a maybe TiVo.
14Jennifer Garner's such a wonderful actress but since Juno I really haven't liked the movies she takes on
15Wow. I LOVE romantic comedies but wild horses couldn't drag me to see this one. After Dazed and Confused, A Time to Kill and Amistad, it appears Matthew has decided to take a 180 with his career and film one crappy movie after another.
16I wouldn't mind seeing this on cable. You review for this film was horrible... omg I thought the trailer was going to be worst then it actually was. This is a normal... romantic comedy.. and they're usually written in the same format, c'mon look at maid of honor, were you really expecting an ocar contender here?
17pinkmystic: Of course I didn't think Made of Honor was going to be an Oscar contender, but does that mean I still can't dislike it as a movie? There are good rom-coms in the world, and I thought that one was awful. It doesn't mean I expected it to be fantastic. I didn't. I was still not a fan.
18And this one also just looks ridiculous to me and I don't find the trailer funny or entertaining. It's just my opinion.
Lots of romantic comedies are predictable, sure, but they're not all exactly the same and I think it's okay to like some romantic comedies and dislike others.
I am with Nitachequita - Matt was very talented in some of his first roles... what happened??
19OK, the only funny thing here is Michael Douglas clearly deliberately channelling the perennial Hollywood smoothie Robert Evans!
If you've never seen "The Kid Stays in the Picture" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0303353/) you should! It'll make viewing this recycled romcom a lot funnier, too.
20Meh, I'd rent it on dvd maybe. McConaughey is starting to get annoying. I agree with whoever said all he takes is surfer dude roles now.
21ehhh i don't know about this one...
22i saw the trailer of this one recently and i had completely forgotten that either were in a movie.
we see them playing doting parents so often that it's easily forgotten that they worked. i'm sure that i'll go to see it some time. i don't know if i'll go to the theater to
see it but since i love both actors, i know that i'll see it some how.
23I dunno it actually looks kind of cute, definitely a good chick flick
I know I'll
probably end up watching it
24That looks terrible. Wow.
25It looks cute, but it feels like we've all seen this kind of movie before. You know what's going to happen.
26No thanks!!!
27i love jennifer garner and will see anything see is in, but i am not jumping for joy about this flick. and matty boy needs to lay off the weed.
28With the swine flu enveloping our world, this seems harmless and safe enough to have a few laughs and look at the fabulous clothing and predictable ending... there are a few movies I count as guilty pleasures -- maybe this could be one of those!
