First Transformers. Then G.I. Joe. Now He-Man. Variety is reporting that "He-Man," another beloved '80s cartoon based on a toy line, will be turned into a live-action film, employing visual effects similar to those in 300. Here's more:
The franchise has been reimagined by the producer and the writers and pitched to Mattel as a classic good vs. evil battle, using the kind of visual effects strategy employed in "300." A warrior is touted as the last hope of a magical land called Eternia, which is being ravaged by technology and the evil Skeletor.
Many of the characters in the Middle Earth-like universe will be informed by the mythology created in the four different cartoon series done since the 1980s.
Now, don't get me wrong, I think this news is awesome. I loved these TV shows as an '80s kid and it's an interesting choice to go live-action in the vein of 300. However, Transformers, G.I. Joe and He-Man... but no "She-Ra" (on her own, outside of the He-Man movie)? No "Jem and the Holograms"?! Where are my '80s ladies? It's obnoxious that there's a Bratz movie but no movie based on "Jem and the Holograms." Any of you Buzz readers into screenwriting? It's time for a girls' '80s cartoon uprising! Who's with me?

Jem! I can still sing the theme song to that - "Jem is excitement, ohhhhh, Jem!" And my little 80's moment is over. I can't believe they're going to make this into a live action film. Is She-Ra going to be in it as well?
1Well, my kid is going to be thrilled.
2I hope she has a significant roll in this movie. She was one of my favorite dolls. Also, how is He-Man not seriously injuring his hand with the way he's gripping that blade?
3My friend just got me to find Spiderman and His Amazing Friends on the weekend. It was made in 80, before I was born. I downloaded all 24 episodes (as they are not available on DVD). We also bought all the He-Man box sets too! I loved JEM!

5I would love to write a Jem movie, I could even be Aja, I have the wig from Halloween (My friends and I dress and Jem and the Hollograms and the Misfits one year). I would also watch She-ra (always loved her since my older sister is named Sheila-they sort of sound the same) and Rainbow Brite. I did rent the Rainbow Brite movie about a year ago, and it was cheesy, but awesome.
6I'll admit to owning several Rainbow Brite movies still. And Carebears - I can't help it! Memories...

24I totally agree about a Jem movie. As much as I love Rainbow Brite and She-Ra, Jem would be the best to develop into a movie. Well, She-Ra does deserve her own movie but her friends need to be revamped. I've been dreaming of it for years. 25i totally agree with most of your casting [especially the idea of pink playing Pizzazz] and i like the idea of Rachael McAdams as Jerrica but i do think they should cast someone another actress to play Jem
