Hello Gossip Girl fans! This week's episode is all about sharing bloodlines and keepin' it in the family (so to speak). When the episode opens, Dan is avoiding Serena because apparently now that he knows they share a sibling it's giving him the heebie-jeebies — and he can't talk to her about it. Serena thinks the worst heebie-jeebies he could possibly feel are due to their parents possibly being in love again. Meanwhile, Uncle Jack receives some unexpected news that sets him on a course to destroy his nephew Chuck just as the little guy seems to be cleaning his act up thanks to the love and support of Blair. Nate and Vanessa are back, too! So much to discuss, so to get talkin', read more.
- Right off the bat we see Uncle Jack teasing Blair about whatever it is they did on New Year's Eve. She doesn't seem too worried he'll tell Chuck, though. Strange. . . I need more specifics.
- I love the reading of the will when they tell Chuck that Jack's his new legal guardian! Their exchange is fun, starting with Chuck: "Curfew?" "None." "Girls sleeping over?" "Yes, please!" "I accept."
- Turns out Bart left a letter to his son that Chuck doesn't want to read because he thinks it will be full of chastising questions like "Why are you such a disappointment?" and most hilariously, "Why do you wear so much purple?"
- But he does read it and it turns out Bart has faith in his kid to take over Bass Industries, which makes Uncle Jack mad — so he sets about scheming.
- Meanwhile, Eric's telling Serena that Jenny is an annoying third wheel now that she's back at school with no friends. When Eric says he wants to hang out with his boyfriend alone, the old Jenny rears her head and gets really bratty about it. I hate to see those two fight!
- Ugh, so most of the episode Dan's carrying around this crazy huge secret which leads to all kinds of tangled webs like Blair's mean girls asking Gossip Girl herself to "put a hit out" on Dan. This means the entire Upper East Side kicks him around and looks through his stuff.
- Remember that episode where Dan was really nice to Blair and listened to her go on and on about her love problems? What happened to that good will? She totally kicks him when he's down — literally!
- Serena thinks Dan is acting weird because their parents are getting back together and I thought it was cute when Serena tells him that her mom would tell her about it because she's so honest with her: "Too honest. . . Like supposedly Sarkozy was a bad kisser."
- Nelly Yuki and the mean girls are on fire in this episode! Blair is too distracted to properly supervise them, and notes, "I see they act alone now. It's so hard finding obedient minions."
- Yay! The little mini Serena and Blairs are back to harassing Dan! They're very upset with him because Gossip Girl says he's cheating on Serena ("How could you do it?!?!"). They also know Vanessa's name because of her history with Dan and then landing Nate ("Talk about failing upwards").
- Speaking of Nate and Vanessa, apparently they're so coupled up they're celebrating an anniversary? Yawn.
- When the news finally breaks that Dan and Serena have a half-brother out there, the Gossip Girl post is pretty witty: "At least Romeo and Juliet didn't share DNA."
- Serena, while reflecting on this new development and how it affects her relationship with Dan, utters what I think a lot of us were thinking, "Now I share a sibling with my boyfriend. That's a little more hillbilly than I can handle."
- Oh man, which brings me to the totally dramatic development having to do with Andrew, Rufus and Lily's son. The adoptive parents, fearful that the powerfully wealthy parents will stop at nothing with their lawyers and such, tell Rufus and Lily the kid is dead! But then we learn that he so is not.
- Oh! And Lily and Rufus have sex and later show up to the loft holding hands.
- I thought it was funny that Jenny and Eric think this new sibling totally makes them family! All better. And Dan and Serena are more like, "Well I guess we'll sort of date and not think of the ickies!"
- Finally: Go Blair! Chuck was set up but he didn't have to party with his uncle and he really didn't have to hang out with those trashy girls and he really didn't have to spit the mean wife line at Blair. He deserves to be dumped. She deserves better.

Blair and Chuck are finito! Uncle Jack is evil and in power! There is a guy named Andrew out there who is not dead and related to a lot of people on this show — I wonder when he'll show up? What did you think of this episode?

Awesome points! Good for Blair and Dan and Serena are so boring ... I used to like they but they're stories are ridiculous. Also Lil' J - what is up with her style? That hair cut wouldn't look good on anyone!
1YAY! Great recap Buzz! All I have to say is chuck is a FOOL, Jack is still hot and best line of the night was "Why do you wear so much purple?" haha I laughed so hard I almost fell off the couch.
2ugh it bothered me when little j was like "no wonder we fight like siblings!" i'm like honey whose side are you on? clearly this is wigging dan and serena out, and if you want them to get back together then hush!
also i'm confused about the "adopted kid is dead" storyline. i was glad they got rid of it, for like all of the commercial break. but seriously do they need to add a new layer of drama to it? and how exactly are rufus + lily going to find out... or are they just going to drop it? my bf thinks they are all going to go to the same college and serena is going to hook up with him... hahaha.
3Chuck was wrong, of course. But they deserve each other just fine. He's heartbroken and that's not an excuse for what he did, but when he gets on track again, he'll clean his act and deserve Blair again. At least i hope so because these two are the heart of the show to me.
And i wish i could find out about New Year's eve too. But i guess whatever happened uncle Jack will use to bring Chuck down.
4Loved this epsiode! I don't know why the Blair/Chuck storyline gets to me so much, but I'm always glued to the television when they're on screen!
5I hope Blair and Chuck aren't really done! I mean, Chuck is too hot to give up on, right? I certainly couldn't do it.
I'm so glad someone else was a little struck by the out of the blueness of Nate and Vanessa's "anniversary." How boring are those two?
Thanks for the recap Buzz - my TIVO decided not to record the first half, so this helped me catch up. Clearly I'm going to need to watch the whole thing eventually for that "Why do you wear so much purple?" line.
6I LOVED this episode. It was pure fabulosity, and the MOMENT the Andrew died story came out, I KNEW it was false. The fake newspaper article almost fooled me though. Then I figured that's what they were typing up while Rufus and Lilly made sweet love.
7I hope he's some rock star, rugged, manly Boston man's man...but NOT a goody goody, and he seems lined up to hook up with ONLY Blair (maybe Vanessa-gag!) as she's the only hot female on the show not related to the bloke, but would she dip below the poverty line for love like her BFF Serena? We'll have to wait and see.
Also, MORE Jenny Humphrey, me-loves-her!
8You guys seriously couldn't tell that Andrew's dad was lying? I saw that a mile away.
I can't wait for crazy, scheming Blair to come back. I love her caring side but come on..I want to see her back to her old self. That line Chuck used on her about 'stop playing the wife' or whatever he said was pretty cold. I was so mad at him then, he could be so very mean-spirited. I don't know how he expected her to stick around after that. He really takes her for granted. Like Ed said on The View today, Chuck isn't very reliable...you never know what he'll do.
In conclusion...I miss Bart.
9oh I miss Bart too! But I love Jack! He is deliciously evil.
Hated Chuck very much and felt terribly sorry for Blair.
10I totally called it that Lily and Rufus's love child wasn't really dead!
11Great re-cap the Uncle Jack storyline predictable and Lily and Rufus are annoying. Also in no way are their kids related I mean honestly they don't share any blood. I mean sure it's ackward sharing a half sibiling but whatever. Chuck got what he deserves eventhough I really hope he gets back the business and learns some responsibility. Uncle Jack was really f***ed up but man is he hot!
12Was it only me or did anyone else think this was a super-dark, extremely grim episode? I'm not buying Nelly Yuki's innocent look anymore. That was a truly evil thing to do. This show is supposed to be escapist fun! I'm going to consider this episode a temporary hiccup on the part of the writers and await next week's more lighthearted fun with Blair's new teacher who gives her a B.
13Jack is yum. He's so evil. Gives Chuck a run for his money(literally!). I can't wait to see Chuck take him dowwwwnnn.
14This episode was kind of "eh" for me. I thought it was kind of weird how well the Humphrey-van der Woodsens took the sibling news - I wanted some tears and hair-pulling and whatnot. Why are they being so mature?
I, too, am in love with anything Blair/Chuck-related - though I'm starting to get uber-annoyed with all this back n forth. Maybe they should just go back to being rivals.
I love your recaps! They hit all the major points and point out all the funniest bits. Will wait for you to post before I write my own (http://squareeyes.blinkx.com/?p=247) - you have a way better memory than I do
15I was pissed about the Chuck/Blair thing. It was all clearly orchestrated by Jack and Blair should know that since he was playing her too. I think the only way the dumping makes sense is if Jack was somehow blackmailing Blair into not getting back with Chuck. Chuck looked truly repentant and I just can't see Blair literally throwing his apology back like that unless something else was going on.
Rufus and Lily?? I'm thinking the kid wasn't really named Andrew. That had to be the brother who died. I'm betting the kid either goes looking for them OR S/D/J/E go looking for the story and notice the dates don't match up (the boys couldn't have been the same age I don't think, so with a little digging they should be able to find out the story was fake).
I was glad the Humphrey and van der Woodsen clans were so mature about everything and was glad to see Nate back!
Can't wait to see how the Blair/Jack/Chuck story plays out!
16I second the "Eh"
17Nelly Yuki...what is wrong with her?! Those girls are so mean to her and she wants to be friends with them? Hello, they can't be worse to you if they're not your friends. Hate Jack. He's like Chuck without the charisma!
18I'm just so over the back and forth between Blair and Chuck... I just wish the writers would let them be happy for a couple episodes!
19genesisrocks - I've thought about Nelly Yuki's masochism as well and the only thing I can come up with is Stockholm syndrome
20Nelly Yuki is crazy, I hate her. She tries so hard to be friends with people who will never be friends with her. I'm glad Blair finally stood up for herself in regards to Chuck but I want them to be together! Chuck has so much on his shoulders right now but he needs to get over all this crap. I want Blair and Chuck to be happy together for once! I can't wait for Uncle Jack to leave, this concept between him and Blair urks me.
21All right, I'm gonna take a slice of Nelly Yuki, put it in a sandwich and then throw it on the ground and trample it to pieces. Because scheming is one thing, stealing is another. Learn your limits, you little brat !
Rant over. Now, I could understand Jack's resentment because he had to stay in his more powerful big brother's shadow. If he was 12. He's an adult now, so please let everyone be mature about this ! It's funny how the writers make the characters be either too mature or way too childish about things when the scenario calls for it (usually, the adults in the show are childish - come on, Rufus, stop with the whining ! - and the kids are mature).
Vanessa/Nate : who cares anymore ?
Chuck/Blair/Jack : first of all, Chuck's an idiot. Like Indielove said, he takes Blair for granted and treats her like she's one of his "coquettes" (is that how they call the girls ?)... So, bravo Blair for reacting the right way. He has to realize that you're one in a million. And if he doesn't, then move on !
(listen at me talking to a fictional character as is it was my friend in real life - I'm pathetic)
Overall, I didn't feel that episode. Something's missing. I don't like the "not-really-dead-Andrew" storyline. I don't like the parents. And I miss Bart. Never thought I would say that. But he was the only real adult in the whole bunch. Now all we've left with is children. That could become boring.
22"Listen TO me". Sorry, typo.
23OMG, I totally picked that th adoptive paent was lying when he came into the room. It's obvious because the producers have already cast the long lost kid. I wonder if Andrew is even his real name? And why the hell don't they want the kid to meet his adoptive parents. The kid would know he's adopted when he starts acting like the upper class and shows interest in becoming a rockstar. His parents are so dull. Also loved the Clueless reference... 'like Cher and her ex step brother, Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd...' Classic. Anyone else ready to kill Jack and perhaps kill Chuck too? Poor Blair being so nice (but getting rather less like Queen B) and I loved her rejecing Chuck in the end. I wanted to see Chuck turn on the waterworks. Lily and Rufus back together. How long... a week?
24Highlights:
"Why do you wear so much purple?"
"It's so hard finding obedient minions."
The funny little girls who chastised Dan.
Nate and Vanessa are so boring. Were either even in last week's episode?
25Nate and Vanessa can leave the cast now, thanks. But it was cool to see Nate come by for Chuck in the first 5 minutes.
Serena and Dan are all kinds of hillbilly. It wouldn't be so bad if their parents haven't -also- hooked back up. Either Lily and Rufus, or Serena and Dan. Not both.
Jenny needs new friends.
The little girls in the candy shop were fabulous. It's also amusing that Blair's minions are still trying to impress her when she clearly doesn't care anymore.
And finally: Jack. Loved the bit about the curfew and the girls, but hated the double-cross. That was evil, and Chuck did not deserve that. Even Chuck's wife comment to Blair was planted as a seed by Jack. Chuck certainly got a rotten stack of family.
26Dan and Serena DO NOT share any DNA, seriously, the whole thing is being blown out of proportion. They are in no way siblings, they didn't grow up in the same home or have the same parents. In a year, they'll be off in college, so who cares what their parents do with each other?
27Also, Chuck's storyline killed me =(
28Hear hear, alexlove ! My thoughts exactly.
29i literally fell for the dead son scheme and though "i knew it!! the son was dead!" and i thought the person who played the dad was just a bad actor and thought couldn't they hire a better guest star?? ROFL. anyway i was pretty surprised that he wasn't dead at all and the bad acting was just well, good acting! haha anyway i'm not making sense. but i love GG!! and chuck and blair!! i love them not together.. because that means we'll still get to see an advanced C&B storyline!
30Whoa- am I glad that I read this recap. I TOTALLY missed that the parents were lying about Lily and Rufus' son dying. When did they say that?!
31...and I thought I was paying attention
I agree with alexlove. They don't share DNA, the only thing they share is a ability to annoy me.
And Nate only makes sense when he's surrounded by Chuck or Blair. Their friendship is the only thing that saves him.
32this episode was a little predictable, but i am happy that blair stood up for herself. and i can't wait to see chuck and jack go head to head!
33The "Why do you wear so much purple" made the episode for me. That line was hilarious and well acted.
The rest of the episode was okay. I liked Blair in this episode. Her expression when she walked into Chuck's office was painful to see.
Nelly Yuki is now officially on my TV character hit list
34"why do you wear so much purple?" best line ever.
35I am looking forward to Blair coming to Chuck's aid to take down Jack. They are the best when they are scheming together.
36Ugh I hate Jack. I don't think he's attractive, like some of you do, and he's just pure evil. Although Chuck should've restrained himself and not fallen for Jack's scheme. Poor Blair
I was proud of the way that she stood up to Chuck in the end and stopped giving him so many
chances.
Dan & Serena don't gross me out, but they lack charisma...which is ironic since they are a couple in real life. I like Nate & Vanessa, even if they aren't on screen much. They just need a more interesting storyline.
The search for Lily & Rufus' son is compelling to me. I can't wait until their long-lost son enters the GG universe.
