I am usually not one of those people who are like "no i don't want that actor/actress for the role" but i just don't feel like vanessa would be a good "leah". I have read all of the books and i think that they could find someone else who would better fit the role. I dont think because she isn't native american that she can't play the role, i just think this isn't the perfect person for them to pick.

The movie was cast with a bunch of basically unknowns. They can't bring someone that famous in, it would draw attention away from the real plot

I think its great she does have native american descent, but this role just isn't right for her....not after HSM3....we need someone who is more striking in a native american way and not so much the girl next door she is.... no offense to her....i just think genisisrocks is right....its an unknown cast....keep it that way

Leah is supposed to be super b!tchy and bitter... I dont think Vanessa Hudgens is fit to that role, also, they should be casting native american's in these roles! With so many brilliant Native American actors in North America why would they toss such an awesome part to some Disney girl?

I can somewhat see her as Leah. I would prefer an actor that is unknown though. I can't wait to see who they cast for Seth.

Normally I wouldnt' be a hater, but just no to a kid from High School Musical playing Leah. Leah is supposed to be tough and big like the other wolves. Sorry, just no.

In addition to what others have said (which I mostly agree with) she also seems to young for this role. My impression of Leah was that she was a tad older than Jacob, like say, in her early 20s? Sometimes younger actors can pull off a maturity beyond their years, but not Vanessa Hudgens.

Well, I think Vanessa Hudgens is a good actress, but she seems to nice to play Leah. Leah has to be hardcore, someone who thinks "Screw the world" and treats everybody bad, but then finds a true friend who can help her, Jacob. I just think that Vanessa isn't capable of playing such a character, and if she were to play Leah, when she suddenly starts being nice to jacob, it may seem like she's in love with him, which Leah is totally not.

She could pull it off if she could get rid of i'm on uppers thing and learn some bitterness. Leah is so not all blue sky.

well...i don't know about that one. i kind of feel like she could be ok but i'm not really a fan of her at all. i guess that if she brought a good level to the film - knowing her history with Sam, then maybe that could be ok. we'll just have to see i guess. there's so much chatter about how they want to revise the script so that robert pattinson has a bigger role - and that would be great as long as it doesn't affect what the future movies are like.

I dont see any reason why they need to cast the role of leah for new moon considering that the character does not appear until the 3rd book. even in the 3rd book leah hardly had anything too say and just disappears into the background for most parts. I am pretty sure it is a rumour, unless the scriptwriters are purposely messing up the chronology of the books to give more screen time for edward? who knows? i am not really a fan of vanessa, aside from hsm i have not seen her in anything worth watching so i doubt she'll be a good fit.they should cast Qarianka Kilcher who was in The New World with Colin Farell.

She isn't right for the part. They need to stick to the formula they have. Chose someone relatively unknown. These movies don't need a STAR to get people to watch. And she is not LEAH at all. People have spoken. She is not who they picture when they think of Leah.

when i think of vanessa hudgens i think of pretty, cute and girly. when i think of the character leah clearwater i think damaged, bitter and tom boy-ish. complete opposites.

i think vanessa would have to be a fantastic actress to pull it off and i really think they would have to dull her down a lot to play the role. she is not supposed to be a beauty queen.

no doubt if vanessa were to get the part, leah's role in the franchise would be magnified and i don't think i would enjoy that.

Umm, Vanessa Hudgens is 1)too young for the role, 2)a terrible actress, 3)doesn't look Native American, a defining characteristic of the character. The roles in the original movie were given to little known actresses and actors. Why break with that? Why not choose one of the many talented Native American actresses who I'm sure would love the role?

I haven't read the books and thought HSM was hilarious (but not for the right reasons) so I won't comment on possibly casting Hudgens as that character.

However if the character is supposed to be Native American, I find it rather shocking and racist they'd put Hudgens - and I have the same issue with a 'Persian' Jake Gyllenhaal. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure with makeup and all they'll look great, but isn't it what Hollywood did when they'd put makeup on white actors instead of hiring African Americans?!?

Catherine Hardwicke's casting was spot on. She chose relatively unknown, non mainstream, underrated actors/actresses. And Weitz should stick to that formula. give unknown actors the chance. I don't have anything against Vanessa, but I don't think she would fit in with the already established cast. She's too well known. I'd definitely go for the actress who played Pocahontas. She's swell.

at first, I thought she could pull it off but after reading some of the comments, I agree with what most people say.

I'm not dim enough to read twilight or watch the film, but I have to say this would be PERFECT casting. Merge the HSM and Twilight empires for the silly, shallow tweens out there! IT'll be just as fabulous, and empty as the rest of the franchise!

Considering the fact that all the Were are direct descendants of the tribe, she just isn't Native American enough looking and nothing she's done has suggested that she is a talented enough actress to play this far against her type cast.

This rumor was just debunked, thankfully. Not that I care much about the Twilight franchise, but I'm glad Vanessa Hudgens won't ruin it. I can't stand her. I think Q'Orianka Kilcher from The New World is gorgeous and would be good in this role.
