You most likely saw this coming, but it's nice to see it happen for real. Heath Ledger posthumously won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Joker in The Dark Knight. His fellow nominees in this category included Tom Cruise, Robert Downey, Jr., Ralph Fiennes and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

C'mon buzz where's the Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television poll?
1He was wonderful as the Joker and it's a great tribute.
2I would have been shocked if it had turned out any other way.
3He was so outstanding it would have been a crime for him not to win.
4I'm sorry I disagree. Heath was terrific in many many films but this is an award for him dying not for his performance. This wasn't his best performance and the award should have gone to the best actor not the potentially best actor who past away.
5he was awesome in this role. his death was/is such a loss for moviegoers....
6He def deserved. Wondering where all the  people are.
7"He def deserved. Wondering where all the  people are."
Agreed.
8For anyone to absorb and serve that character that well, he most undoubtedly deserved that award. His competition was fierce (I loved Robert Downey, Jr.), but when you take into consideration the unparalleled complex performance that man had to deliver, it could not have gone any other way.
9I'm sorry but I have to disagree wackdoodle. Heath Ledger was outstanding in this movie, so much that you forgot it was him on the screen. He absorbed the Joker and became him so eloquently that he deserved this award dead or alive. The award is just sweeter/sadder because of his death. I would hope that if he had been alive he would have deserved the same respect and gratitude for his role as the Joker because of how outstanding it was.
10I agree shafiii. Heath was so exceptional in this role that you really did forget that it was Heath up on that screen.
11there was talk of oscar when they were still filming the movie
Heath deserves this,
alive or dead.
12He deserved it, no question. it doesn't matter whether he's alive or he's dead. his performance was so unbelievably precise that i literally still get goosebumps whenever i watch the dark knight.
13shafiii [+] : Couldn't have said it better myself. Wackdoodle: there was buzz around this performance BEFORE he died. Everyone was already blown away by it. I'd like to hear what you think is a good performance if this wasn't his best. My brother is a tough critic and even he said that the performance was award-worthy. Heath Ledger the actor is completely lost in this role, it's all the Joker. And as my father pointed out, it takes a truly gifted actor to get all the ticks and mouth movements he delivered so consistently during that film. I completely agree that he deserved this award. And I'm pretty sure his fellow nominees would say the same thing.
14I was disappointed that he won not because I didn't like his performance and think he was great, but because I absolutely HATED "The Dark Knight" and didn't want it to get any recognition whatsoever. Actually, Heath Ledger was the only part of that movie that I thought was good. I'd like to think he won because he played his role best out of the category, but it's hard for me to believe it had nothing to do with his death.
15Wackdoodle - did you watched TDK?
totally agree!!
16I think he completely deserved it, as he was AMAZING in that film.
17i think that Heath did deserve to win. he was up against a LOT of amazing actors and the fact that the role that some say killed him earned him this honor - well it's just amazing. i'm happy about this
18of course. and everyone had better agree!
19I definitely think he deserved it. He completely embodied the character of the Joker and he was fantastic. I realize that everyone has their own opinions, but I still think it's an insult to his memory to say that Heath only earned this award because of his death and not because of his talent.
20i totally agree, i mean he was great it's one of his best jobs if it isn't the best, he totally deserved it
21As someone else already pointed out, the Oscar buzz surrounding Heath Ledger's turn as the Joker was already there before he ever passed. People who witnessed his transformation in this role were quite blown away. To suggest it had anything to do with something so tragic--that he was "awarded" for dying--is really just a bunch of ugly, bitter noise.
