With all the Jay Leno news and Jimmy Fallon buzz lately, it was interesting to read this story suggesting that Joel McHale of The Soup would be a good candidate for a late-night talk show of his own.
According to the story, McHale wouldn't want the job anyway (he'd rather do movies), but I think it's a great idea. From everything I've seen, he's definitely funny enough to hold down a weeknight slot.
That got me thinking about other people whom I'd love to see get their own talk shows. Amy Poehler has that whole NBC sitcom gig coming up, so that will probably keep her busy for a while, but I bet she'd be great behind a late-night desk. And while she's certainly divisive, Kathy Griffin is so funny when she's riffing off other people (say, Anderson Cooper) that I think she'd be a hilarious talk show interviewer.
What about you? Is there anyone you've always thought deserved a daytime or late-night talk show of his or her own?

I don't know of anyone better qualified than Joel McHale. He's freaking hysterical. Except if he left The Soup I wouldn't watch it anymore. I almost feel like I want to keep him there instead.
1The thing with Joel McHale is his career is making fun of people on tv, celebs, shows etc and he wouldn't really have that sort of freedom on a talk show because he would actually have to interview those people. Same goes for Kathy Griffin- actually no one would want to go on her show because they all think she is the Antichrist.
2Those are the choices? PASS.
3I LOVE Joel and I actually professed my love to him this summer when I saw his comedy show! He has to stay at The Soup - he's comic gold!!!
4krae85 — nope, I'm just wondering what people you would like to see get a show. To the best of my knowledge, none of these people will actually be getting one, at least not anytime soon.
5I love the choice of either Joel McHale or Kathy Griffin. Both of them are hysterical! I just saw Joel McHale's standup on New Years Eve and I am sad to report his stand up was not even close to his act on The Soup. I LOVE that show.
Most late night talk show hosts make fun of celebrities so I don't think it would be too different if either Joel or Kathy hosted their own show, I just don't think Ryan Seacrest would be welcome on either show, lol.
6I can't stand Kathy Griffin!
7I love Joel McHale---he is absolutely awesome on The Soup--- I don't want him to leave, but I would love it if he would do The Soup and a talk show!!
8I want Sharon Osborne to get a show back. But this time, she only interviews the worst of the worst reality stars, and gives it to them just like she did to Megan on the ROL Charm School Reunion show.
9well, than how bout Debra Messing?
10Joel McHale is the only reason why I watch The Soup. I see Amy Poehler more as an actress/sketch comedian rather than a host/interviewer.

12I love them all, but Joel McHale would be the best fit as a host.
13Amy is soo funny but I can't really see her as a host...
14I hated HATED Kathy Griffin when she was on Suddenly Susan. But she totally won me over with her wit and her quips, she'd be an AWESOME host. And while there are a lot of haters out there, if her talk show did well, they'd be tripping over themselves to go on the show.
15I think Joel McHale and Kathy Griffin would be great choices. I saw Joel McHale's stand-up last month and it was okay, but I think he's still a great comedian.
16Joel or Kathy would be my choice. Amy is funny but I think I would tire of her rather quickly
