Based on the bestselling novel by Paulo Coelho, Veronika Decides to Die stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as a young woman who tries to commit suicide, only to end up in a mental institution with a weakened heart and five days left to live.
The trailer is actually quite artful and lovely. There's little dialogue, mostly it's just beautifully sad, evocative images and music to go along with them.
The only release date information I can find is "March 2009." To check out the trailer and let me know what you think, read more.

I really, REALLY want this to be good because I adore Smidge with the fire of a thousand suns and she hasn't done anything good since Buffy. Come ON, SMG, knock this one out of the park.
Also, I read the book and I think it will probably make a good movie.
1I adore Paulo Coelho, he is one of my favorite authors! I can't wait to see this movie! Love SMG, too!
2i hope that this is a good one for her as well. i love SMG and i hope that there's more to this than 'girl interrupted'. we'll just have to wait and see -but i think that this is one that i could sway my man to go see w/ me
3I love Paulo Coelho. I am so looking forward to this movie. Hope they also do a movie version of The Witch of Portobello, my favorite Coelho book to date.
4Looks interesting. Does she get to live?
5Ugggh no. I read this crappy book at the urging of a good friend. The first few chapters were good then the supposed twist was telegraphed as if it was written by a five year old. The book was a schlocky, poorly written let down with a self-serving lame supposed moral at the end. And this isn't a spoiler but the name is a total misnomer.
Honestly if anyone wants to know what happens to Veronika and why then just ask me...I have no problems saving you $10 and two hours.
And I was looking forward to seeing if movie cause I love SMG then I read the book and the screenplay and my stomach soured. I wouldn't even watch it on free tv.
6Wow, Erika Christensen has lost some weight. I barely recognized her.
7I read the book and I really can't decide whether I liked it or not. Paulo Coelho's books are enjoyable but they're not masterpieces or anything like that. Still, I'm hoping that the movie might be interesting.
8That's my kind of movie, i had tears in my eyes just watching the trailer, and i love Paolo Coelho but i've never read this book, this looks really good, it kind of reminded me of 'The Virgin suicide'
9This trailer really made me want to read the book ^^
10The trailer is intriguing. I, too, would like to read the book.
11yaaaayyyyyyyy!!!!! I've been waiting forever for this movie to come out! Can't wait to see it! (I agree with longhornlass04 though, Erika looks WAY TOO SKINNY)
12wackdoodle:
This preview looks rather melodramatic and underwhelming, which would be a fair adaptation of the novel.
13anybody know what that song is that plays during the last minute or so of the preview? i love it!
14It looks great. I had no idea that it was a book, the trailer is making me want to read it. I'll definitely watch the movie though. I love SMG and she looks pretty good in it.
15I haven't heard about this one yet, thank you for posting! It looks good, but since things can go either way with SMG, I think I'll be waiting for DVD.
16Well,I liked the book...
17The song is "Come Undone" by Greg Laswell.
18wow that looks good, thanks. my kind of movie. now I have to read the book.
19I have read the book and I like SMG so I might like the movie.
20I can't stand Paulo Coelho or anything (even remotely) related to his work. And as a Brazilian, I feel embarrassed by the fact he's our most famous writer (worldwide).
21Nice to see Sarah Michelle Gellar doing something other than cheesy horror flicks.
22YEA SMG!! I need to read this, I've only read his Alchemist!
23i've read the book. the ending is so cheesy. blah
24I'm a fan of Sarah Michelle, but I'm not sure if I want to see the movie...I think I need to read the book first and see if I like it. I hate seeing movies before I've read the book version.
