Based on the BBC series of the same title, the film State of Play stars Russell Crowe, Helen Mirren, Ben Affleck, and Rachel McAdams. Crowe and McAdams are reporters who get wrapped up in the case of a congressman's (Affleck) murdered mistress.
From the trailer, it looks like a compelling crime thriller, though I'm not sure how it'll stack up against the acclaimed original series. The fact that it's directed by The Last King of Scotland's Kevin Macdonald is promising, however. State of Play opens April 17. To check out the trailer, read more.

The casting of Helen Mirren makes this an attractive film for me. Like you, Buzz, I'm not sure the film can stack up to the original series, but I'll give it a try.
1well i love the cast and i wonder if it's going to be any good. i guess i'll have to wait a little bit to see what the reviews are like and see more of the trailers
i can't ever get enough of ben - that's for sure!
2I think everybody should see this because a very goof friend of mine worked her butt off on it!
3i can't stand Ben as an actor. And this looks very generic.
4Coco, I was going to say the same thing! A treasured friend worked her patootie off on this film for a very long time!
5When Brad and Ed Norton left this film, my anticipation went from lots to nil.
6I think this will be a great film. Mirren makes anything quality.
7But James McAvoy was in the original - you can't top that!
8As impressive as this cast is, I refuse to see this. There is just no way they could do anything to improve upon the EXCELLENT BBC original. Really, they should've left this one alone.
9i had no idea this was a British tv show.
But i'll probably see it because i stumbled onto the set while it was filming in one of the metro stops in DC and i ran into an old friend from high school who was one of grip hands.
