The Muppets seem to be having a bit of a resurgence lately, what with Jason Segel working on a new Muppet movie and maybe even an updated Muppet Show. But those projects are still a ways off, so while we're waiting, it might be worth checking out NBC tonight for a new Muppet holiday special, A Muppets Christmas: Letters to Santa.
In the special, which airs tonight at 8 p.m. (EST/PST), the Muppets accidentally intercept three letters that should be headed to Santa's mailbox instead. It's already Christmas Eve, so they must hurry up and make it to the North Pole before Santa takes off on his gift-dropping trip around the globe — or else three wishes will go unfulfilled. Of course, there are obstacles (Miss Piggy was planning on a tropical vacation), but in the end, I'm guessing that Christmas ends up happy for all.
The special is full of guests, including Uma Thurman, Jane Krakowski, Nathan Lane, and Whoopi Goldberg — but really, I'm just in it for Kermit, Fozzie, Gonzo, and the rest. 3As far as I'm concerned, one of the greatest Christmas films of all time is The Muppet Family Christmas. That's the one that takes place at Fozzie's grandma's house. Not only did it feature the Muppets, but also Fraggle Rock and the ENTIRE CAST OF SESAME STREET.

5kbussanich - I LOVE Muppet Family Christmas too!! Here's the problem, the re-released dvd version doesn't have Fozzie's snowman song!! (my favorite part growing up) and other various scenes that were cut because of music rights. It makes me sad that I can't watch the real version... but I'm hoping the show tonight will make amends.
6I'll be 37 this month and I still think The Muppets totally rock! I love them when I was a kid and love' em even more now. I'll be watching this with the kids tonite, Buzz!

11i'm so sad about this one. i knew that it was going to be on TV last night, but i was still at work when it aired, and i hadn't known about it beforehand so i missed out on DVRing it. so sad...i love the muppets!
12So it wasn't as great as the original but I did like it. I thought the santa was a bit creepy though.
