So this week's "ANTM" was the biggie, the one for all the marbles (er, money and lipstick ads) ... and it's the week my TiVo chose to let me down. So forgive me if this recap doesn't chronicle every step of the craziness the way it normally would, and be sure to leave a comment telling me what you thought were the best/worst/most ridiculous parts.
For the first challenge, the three remaining models were sent to shoot a "my life" spot for Cover Girl, speaking spontaneously and without any lines written down ahead of time. Sounds like trouble for Natasha, huh? She tried to sneak in a script she'd written, but that was a no-no, and she ended up awkwardly ad-libbing. Renee, meanwhile, initially started talking about how six months ago she had a baby and thought her life was over. The coaches gently suggested that the ideal "easy, breezy" Cover Girl probably wouldn't be so negative. Jaslene landed the glamour-girl gig by shooting her commercial in a limo, which brought out "cha-cha" to the max. The judges complained that Natasha's ad was too awkward and Jaslene didn't look commercial enough, which you'd think would make Renee a sure bet for the final two. But no! Instead, they said she looked too old — and too squinty, thanks to the sun being in her eyes during the commercial shoot — and she was booted.
That left Jaslene and Natasha to fight to the death at a bizarre runway show, so to talk about the winner and see a gallery of photos from the episode, read more
So this runway show. First of all, the runway was this long, curvy thing made of tiny wooden slats, and all I could think of was poor Jenna Fischer breaking her back. Secondly, the girls were told that the theme of the show was evolution, which made me think they were going to have to first crawl, then ape-walk, then finally strut on the runway. Luckily, they actually just had to dance around looking baffled for the prehistoric parts. Natasha started out great — not surprisingly, she can pull off the "confused person who's never seen the world before" look quite well — but faded at the end, while Jaslene pulled out some serious model strutting action. Oh, and Natasha's skirt fell off, but she just kept workin' it like a trooper.
Back at the judging, Natasha and Jaslene said how happy they were that "girls with accents" had made it this far in the competition. We got a recap of their photos from the season — wow, they both made really good dudes — and a fairly brief deliberation before Tyra announced that Jaslene "cha cha" Gonzales would be America's Next Top Model. Cheers! Hugs! Crying! I was a little surprised Jaslene won, but I have to admit she looked the most "model-y" at the runway show. What do you think? Was Renee robbed?

I knew Jaslene would win from the beginning. Im glad Renee didnt win- she is still a stuck up b*tch to me. Im sad for Natasha. She became so adorable and hilarious through the show. Im sure she will do fine though
1I'm outraged. Jaslene sets such a bad example for young girls, in my opinion. She's so...sickly thin
2She has a typical model body. I know she is really skinny but I dont think she looks sickly. For all anyone knows she could easily be that naturally skinny
3I'm SO SO SOOOO happy Jaslene won!! FINALLY! A Spanish girl wins! So proud!

I don't like the more recent seasons of ANTM, and this last one proved to me why I really should stop watching - Jaslene is just...UGHHHHHHH. ;(
5I wanted Natasha to win, but I'm sure she'll be successful, because she's so beautiful and talented.
Oh, and I agree with menthadict, Jaslene is very very very skinny. I usually don't bash skinny girls because I'm one, but Jaslene seriously needs to look into eating a sandwich or two.
My roomie and I were so happy that Jaslene won! She and Brittany were the only ones who had the most potential to be actual models. I had forgotten how old everyone was and was shocked to learn that Renee was only 20 years old--OMG! Especially in that Cover Girl ad, she looks like a well-preserved 35-40 year old. All that Hawaiian sun didn't do her any favors. And Natasha wouldn't have made a good spokesperson, nor do I think she photographs all that well. All in all, Jaslene was the best candidate for the position of America's Next Top Model
6Jaslene was the best and deserved to win! She is definitely very thin, but I agree with the other commenters that she doesn't look sickly thin. Plus, apparently designers liked her body since they all said they would book her at the go sees.
7i wasnt a fan of any of the top three - but i had decided that natasha was the best option of the three.
8I actually don't get the "Renee looks old" sentiment. I actually think Jaslene looks old and like very drag queen.
9i thought renee's covergirl shot was very anti aging skin cream
10Jaslene is toooo skinny. Even if she doesn't look sick, she doesn't look healthy. And such a bad example. I loved Natasha from the beginning. I'm so sad she lost. Even though Natasha is definately a petite girl, she at least looks healthy.
No boney ribs for me, thanks.
11im sorry i really really really did not like natasha and i actually liked renee. yeah i know she was a b**th but still i thought that she pulled away from that attitude and became serious and natasha. i cant stand her for soem reason. im just really happy jaslene won--i think shes gorgeous and full of personality
12I totally forgot about it! I was at a baseball game last night - whoops. I will just watch it again on Sunday....no surprise about Jaslene though. Good for her. Seriously.
13i definitely did not like jaslene's personality. she was so arrogant and talked so much smack on all the confessionals. i was rooting for natasha but i had a feeling jaslene would win.
14Jaslene does look like a drag queen, which is why the judges probably like her. I think both Renee and Natasha will end up doing fine, they've had good exposure on the show.
15I was so happy to have little Jaslene win!
16NOOOOO...i want natasha to win!!! but i guess its better than renee...
17Honestly, I thought it was going to come down to Renee and Jaslene. Something about Natasha just bugged me. It kind of came as a surprise that Renee got booted for looking "too mature."
18Jaslene did have the best model body. She was dumb, but she looked most like a model. Renee looked really typical to me- like some girl you'd see in advertisements for toothpaste- not a high fashion model.
19Congrats to the winner!
20I was happy to see Jaslene win, I felt she made the best model of the three as far as consistantly good pictures, runnway and print.
21Boo, I dont like Jaslene.
22Renee looked too old I agree, the haircut they gave her didnt help! I knew natasha wouldnt win, not because she isnt talented or beautiful, but because the "girl who didnt get in the door last season, but wins this one" storyline was way more "good tv" for ANTM. Some suggestions for next season:
231)Please dear baby jesus get rid of twiggy "legendary fashion icon" who has zero personality and style, its like some older Brit office worker wandered in off the street."she is a lovely girl" isnt constructive.
2) More Miss Jay, that man can just take over the whole show as far as i am concerned, he is brilliant
3) Put a seasoned model, maybe retired in with the girls, to teach them posing, walking, etc. Most of the time an up and coming model has some sort of guidance either from the agency or other models. That way we arent getting 20 episodes of "learn how to bend your neck" and "practice in the mirror" it will step up the show a bit.
This show should be called America's Next Top Model Wannabe because none of the "winners" are ever heard from again (except the one who married the Brady bunch guy)
24I think Jaslene seriously looks like a man - all the time.
She has a terrible personality and acts rather trashy/immature.
As for what she said, "I'm not the girl-next-door, I'm the girl down the street in your hood" or whatever....I don't think that's a particularly good thing. You should always be proud of who you are and where you came from, but I don't see how anything she brings forth amounts to Top-Model potential.
It should have been Natasha - hands down.
25Agreed. The winner is supposed to be well-spoken and sophistaicated, and I couldn't understand what Jaslene was saying most of the time. Natasha had an accent, but it was endearing and at least understandable. I guess Jas couldn't help the way she talked but it just wasn't very flattering to her or attractive.
26Renee didn't win because last season's winner, Caridee was a white blonde. They couldn't have another one this season. It's that simple. I love Jaslene though, she was my pick from the start!
27Natasha wasn't too bright, and while she is traditionally pretty, I never found her modelesque(spelling?). Also, was I the only one annoyed the entire season by Natasha's refusal to wear her hair in the manner she was made over (they're all instructed to do so, and other girls, like Dionne, got flack for not doing so), or even use some conditioner? She always wore it in a high ponytail (which made her round face look rounder--that's why they gave her the mod cut with heavy bangs in the first place) and it always looked as dry as straw (the blunt haircut also didn't lend itself to a cute/natural-looking ponytail, either). Also, for all the judges stating that Renee, who consistently took great photographs, looked old, I always found something a bit haggard about Natasha.
Jaslene, though funny looking and too skinny by most considerations, definitely looks like a model. (walk around SoHo--avoiding more touristy Broadway--in NYC, and you'll eventually run into one. a lot of them look strange up-close) I think the right stylists and makeup artists can make a high-fashion-looking girl appear commercial enough to do a catalog, but I think that it is hard to do the reverse.
28Really, Renee was just "too mature"? I can't believe Tyra let that happen! When that's the only strike against a girl, you're just opening yourself up to criticism. Tyra says "it's a sad fact in the industry"...but doesn't do anything to try to change it?
Come on! If you can embrace models that are plus-sized, speak English as a second language, have torrid pasts, and (let's face it) are just weird, shouldn't you be able to keep a girl who just doesn't look like she's still in high school? Way to marginalize the majority of American women, Tyra!
29God, this show is awful now! Jaslene looks like Janice Dickinson's twin, what happened to these judges?
30Natasha has an awkward smile, but she is good a looking sexy. Yes Jaslene has a sickly body! Poor Renee. OLD!? Come on!
31i love that show.... wonder who won
32Jaslene looks like the younger version of Janice Dickinson
33Renee totally had the spark when she did commercials...she was so good at being natural and likeable. I think girls could relate with her more than Jaslene who only looks good in photos...the rest of the time like she needs to go to a hospital. Natasha was not relatable. I was shocked at the outcome, but based on photos alone and not personality and speaking skills, Jaslene had it.
34I only saw a couple of episodes at the end, but they were portraying Natasha like some back-stabbing person that couldn't be trusted. I didn't think she was all that pretty, I sort of thought Renee would win.
35I knew Jaslene would win. Its always the more reserved ones that only occasionally get stuck in the drama that win. I loved jaslene through out the show. I didn't much like renee she had too many rude things to say. I had a feeling through out the show that jaslene would win anyways because the judges really liked her (especially tyra).
