It was a good year for actors to showcase their dramatic acting chops, though in these Best of 2008 polls, there were two clear winners who each won by quite a few votes. Your picks for the year's best dramatic actress and actor are. . .
Best Dramatic Actress of 2008
Kate Winslet, The Reader and Revolutionary Road
Winslet is favored above all other actresses in this category, and I can certainly see why. As is the case in every role Winslet takes, her focused and riveting work in both of these movies is truly something to behold.
In second place is Angelina Jolie for her heart-wrenching performance in Changeling followed by Anne Hathaway for her role in Rachel Getting Married.
You could probably have guessed who would win this year's poll for best dramatic actor, but to see it in writing, read more.
Best Dramatic Actor of 2008
Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight
Ledger wins this poll by a landslide for his mesmerizing performance as the Joker to Christian Bale's Batman in The Dark Knight. I look forward, with bittersweetness, to seeing Ledger's final performance in The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, hopefully next year.
At the moment, Robert Pattinson and Sean Penn are practically neck-and-neck for the No. 2 spot, with Pattinson winning by just a few votes.

I'm hoping for Winslet, Rooke , Ledger and Cruz to win at the Globe and Oscars.
1well i'm thrilled that kate won for best actress and it was kind of expected that everyone would vote for heath - seeing as how we've all been really in-tune to the posts about him here and showing our support for him.
2I think it's a little bit hilarious but mostly very sad that Robert Pattinson is beating out Sean Penn.
3I adore Kate Winslet. Really, is there any woman who doesn't?
4Sean Penn tops my list any day. His performance in Milk is incredible.
5I completely agree with Whip! I also find it very sad that Kristen Stewart got more votes than Meryl Streep
I thought Kristen was pretty crappy in Twilight.
6Kate Winslet and Heath Ledger deserve their wins in these categories. I love both of them!
7While the script and directing was off, I actually thought the acting by all the characters n Twilight was very good. All of the situations felt very real and the awkwardness and dynamic between all the characters was captured IMO. Overall the story and characters weren't award winning, but in no way do I consider every aspect of Twilight bad.
8im sure winslet will win this time..
