In all the speculation about which Gossip Girl character could lead a spinoff, I assumed it would be one of the youngsters and not the adults. But what if it was about the adults as youngsters? That's the new buzz according to Star, which reports from its sources that the spin-off will focus on Rufus and Lily as teenagers in love. (Update: Josh Schwartz has reportedly debunked this rumor, but just in case, read on.)
Says the magazine:
It begins when they first meet, during a time when Rufus and his band are at the height of their career. The show will follow the high society and rock 'n' roll lifestyle in New York.
The producers once thought about making webisodes about young Rufus and Lily, but they decided to focus on Dorota instead. Giving them a spinoff would obviously be an even bigger showcase.
Now, if this somehow does turn out to be true, it could lead to some good stories. (I can imagine some awesome young Grandma CeCe smackdowns), especially because we now know their past was even more torrid than we once thought. I'm still holding out a little hope for a Serena-in-college spin-off, though I could see some potential in Lily and Rufus: The Early Years. Even if it's not true now, is this an idea worth pursuing?

ugh i dont see how that would be any different than watching serena and dan, except for instead of playing guitar dan writes poems. i love the lily-rufus relationship, but cant see any type of long term series coming out of it.
1well i think that it would be a lot more likely to have good interest if it were those 2 rather than some of the other characters. we'll just have to wait and see i suppose
2Haha, cassedy, you're totally right! I don't really dig the idea at all.
3I like it... at least more than one of the main characters getting his/her own show... though I'm stil hoping for it to centre around Georgina Sparks!!!
4There is going to be a spin-off of this show?! Good lord...
5i kind of feel like that would be a little boring.
6I thought that was the weakest storyline on the show. Hmmmm....
7I would watch the Serena in college spin-off but not this one
8I like the idea.
9I'm interested.
The story would be more Romeo-Juliet type thing then Dan and Serena. He was a musician, Dan is a geek with too much sarcasm. And Lily was his groupie that could not stay because of her mom's interference, nothing like Dan and Serena.
10Blair and Chuck need a spin-off.
11Why not Jenny like the books spin off?
12I think it has potential to be a good idea and if they really do want to do a spin-off, I kind of think this would be the best idea. It would probably be a lot more interesting than watching Serena and Dan, though that wouldn't take much.
I'm honestly not sure if any of the other characters could hold their own show. Well, Blair and/or Chuck probably could, but IMO, Gossip Girl needs them.
13If this spinoff were to happen, maybe we could finally understand how Rufus was a "90s rocker" having a fling with Lily, yet they both have kids in what had to be around 1991. That inconsistency has always bugged me.
14ugh. just leave the show alone and move it forward to the college years. its great as it is.
15No...its about Jenny going away to boarding school. The series of books are called "The It Girl" they are really good, if you liked the Gossip Girl Series. They are not as good as Gossip Girl but still very juicy and crazy. The show would be good...but not as good as GG
16This was dismissed as an idea for the CW's webisodes in favour of their upcoming Darota webisodes. Doesn't look like Rufus and Lily will be covered in a spinoff anytime soon. In other words, thank God there isn't anything like "The Big City" and "The Hills" going on with my all-time fave show!
