The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Frost/Nixon came up big when the nominations for the Golden Globe Awards were announced this morning in Hollywood. Each of those films received five nominations, including one for the best dramatic film of the year. Doubt also received five nominations, although it was not nominated in the best dramatic film category.
Four other movies received four nominations each: Slumdog Millionaire, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, The Reader, and Revolutionary Road.
The Dark Knight received only one nomination, but it was a big one: Heath Ledger was nominated posthumously for Best Supporting Actor. Milk also only received one nomination, for Sean Penn.
On the television side, cable continued its dominance, with newcomer True Blood picking up a couple of nominations alongside Mad Men and Dexter. In Treatment was nominated for five awards, and on the comedy side, 30 Rock and Entourage led the nominations with three nods each. To see the complete list, just read more.

People Tree
I can't believe In Bruges was characterized as a comedy or musical.
1i looked this up online as soon as i got to work and i saw the whole nom list and it's kind of interesting to see how things shaped up this year. i don't know if i really agree with some of them, but others seem ok. i wonder if sean penn will be out brad (i kind of hope so) and i wonder if meryl will beat out angie (i really think so). and the fact that meryll was nominated 2x - that's great!
i'm a bit shocked that burn after reading was nominated too cause it was really a waste of a few hours - but that's just my opinion. it's nice to see that tom cruise was nominated for tropic thunder seeing as how no one even knew that he was in it with such a big part until you went to see the movie. it was a surprise to us all but he was truly the funniest part of the movie.
2I haven't seen ANY of those movies, GEESH!
3I am WAY behind on my movie watching! Yay for True Blood noms ... sad no pushing daisies noms ... oh well!
4I am a 30 rock, office and samantha who? fan. So, I excited for the actors in these shows....BUT...I am SO EXCITED for
5.."Mad Men" and both John Hamm and January Jones. Totally Deserved! Hope these nominations help the show come back for a 3rd season.
..Rys Meyers in "Tudors"....wow! he is so good in this show and sexy. I have been a fan since season one
Only 1 for MILK?! Luckily, the Critic's Choice Awards has a better prediction record for the Oscars than the GG.
6I am also surprised about Burn After Reading. I just don't think it was that great. My local movie theater is playing Happy Go Lucky next week and I can't wait to see it! I haven't seen most of the movies nominated, but I am happy for The Office and 30 Rock nominations!
7Thrilled to see Mad Men and Jon Hamm on the list. Hope Sean Penn wins for Milk.
8I'm shocked that Milk's amazing score was not recognized. And a Tom Cruise nom? I know it's the globes, but come on... it's not the people's choice awards.
9I am really happy to see Mickey Rourke nominated for The Wrestler. I think he has a real chance of winning.
10And hopefully Kate Winslet has a good chance, as well!
11so Happy for In Bruges, Winslet and Cruz.
12I was so excited to see In Bruges get nominations! I loved that movie. I'm even more excited they recognized Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson.
estella241 [+] : Ever hear of black comedy? That's exactly what it is. Aside from the disturbing ending, there was very little that was actually dramatic or serious.
13I mean come on. Milk should have been nominated for "Best Picture". I'm happy Sean Penn was nominated for a Golden Globe also Slumdog Millionaire I heard was an amazing movie too. Meryl Strep for Doubt is fantastic and I hope Dexter gets a GG too. Oh and what about Emile Hirsch and James Franco for supporting actors in Milk too.
14Aronofsky got STIFFED for Best Director. I hope the Oscars don't make the same mistake.
15Milk was good, but everything that got nominated for Best Picture either was great or is supposed to be great, as well. I try never to say that something should or shouldn't have been nominated until I have seen everything that was nominated.
16EkaterinaBallerina - yes, I have heard of black comedy
, but I didn't think In Bruges
was even that. I thought it was a serious piece of dramatic work and it really touched me. I'm really happy that both actors got nominations, however, no matter what category.
17Oh man I have so many movies to see!
18In Bruges is definitely a black comedy - and very funny! I was pleasantly surprised to see it there and both Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson got nominated too.
I thought it had been overlooked a lot by the mainstream media, so good to see it getting recognition at the Golden Globes.
That said I don't think it will win Best Motion Picture. That said either Colin Farrell or Brendan Gleeson MAY win the actor category, although that could well go to James Franco. My heart would say Brendan Gleeson - would love to see him getting the award. He always seems to bring something extra special to every role he's in.
19Neil Patrick Harris better win this year. That will finally generate the right buzz for HIMYM so they don't have to stunt cast Britney Spears again!
20Dark Knight got robbed... although Heath should definitely win for Best Supp. Actor- I mean, he's up against 2 guys from Tropic Thunder!
Surprised Australia didn't get anything either. He should have made it a musical! That category is lacking this year.
21man, january jones is such a bad actress, how could they nominate her?
oh well, yay true blood! with they nominated vampire bill too
22*wish
23i'm thrilled for 'in treatment'. it's such an amazing show, made of dialogues only
24I'm rooting for Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Kate Winslet, Heath Ledger, Colin Farrell, Wall-E, True Blood, Californication, Robert Downey Jr, Anna Paquin....whew!
And yes I know a few of those are in the same category but I will be glad if any of these people win.
25Mad Men Mad Men (does a dance)
I unfortunately haven't seen enough of the films that have been nominated to really root for anyone...so I guess I have a lot of films to watch!
26ooh stoked for mad men and dexter, though they're competing against each other.
i really need to catch up on my movies, for awhile there wasn't anything i wanted to see and all of a sudden, BAM it's oscar season.
p.s. as much as i love true blood, i don't think anna paquin warrants a nom for best actress.
27So happy that Kevin Connolly is nominated! So I'm rooting for him, Jeremy Piven, Robert Downey Jr, Meryl Streep, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt & Tina Fey!
28what? where are the nomnations for "lost" and "pushing daisies"???
29Keen to see Penelope Cruz, Slumdog Millionaire, Angelina Jolie, 30 Rock and Dexter to walk away with some awards.
30Still upset The Wire got completely ignored :
And I thought Burn After Reading was very funny and brilliantly acted. Such a misunderstood movie.
31I think that The Curious Case of Benjamin Button will win best drama, and I hope it does. I think Sean Penn will win for Milk I hope he doesn't I want Brad Pitt to win. And I think Anne Hathaway or Meryl Streep will win in the best actress in a drama category, though I'm really pulling for Angelina Jolie in The Changeling.
32benjamin button is a good film...but im handing my vote for revolutionary road.
