Whoa — is George O'Malley really leaving Seattle Grace? It looks like the Grey's Anatomy star is on his way out, as Entertainment Weekly reports that Knight "has asked to be released from his contract, a request that both ABC and Grey's show-runner Shonda Rhimes appear poised to grant."
Knight seemed to be the target of some blind items about a TV star's discontent last week, but the rumors really picked up on Monday, when one report said Knight had walked off the set. That rumor was quickly denied by ABC, who said Knight was filming just like any other week. But that doesn't mean he doesn't want to leave. Entertainment Weekly says the details of his departure are being worked out, including how long Knight would stay with the show.
Grey's seems to be turning into a giant fireball of doom these days, with crazy departures and crazier storylines. If this turns out to be true, will you be sad to see George go? Or is his character one the show can get along just fine without? Personally, I think he should have left either a) when he broke up with Izzie or b) when he failed his intern exam — both of those would have been a lot more natural than this!

Not George! I wanted it to be Izzie!
1Wasn't it a while back when they said he was a divo. Galactic egos = galactic drama
2eh, I don't care one way or another, I am just happy to be right and that PATRICK DEMPSEY would not be the one making demands!
3What the hell?! This is the second time now that off-set drama has caused a random departure (Dr. Burke), third if you count Hahn's departure next week. I want Grey's to get better, but it's not going to if they keep losing good characters and going all crazy on the storylines. Personally, I'll be sad to see George go, because I've always liked his character and he seems to be one of the more grounded of the residents.
4I meant Hahn's departure a couple weeks ago. Oops.
5this show is losing me, it's not been the same at all post season three, has it?
6I'm not really surprised, but I'm kinda bummed about it. I thought it was either TR or Patrick Dempsey that was being a diva.
7Meh. I never cared much for George. He blinked too much, as if I was supposed to guess what he was feeling through his Morse-like crazy blinking.
8Wow. I really thought it was going to be Derek. I can totally do without George though. He has become a total non-entity...
9George's character has always driven me crazy, so I'll be happy to see him go, though because he's been seen very little season, I don't really care one way or another. I wanted him to go instead of Isaiah Washington because Burke was such a better character. Can they bring him back now??? Please???
10I'm on the fence about it really. I mean he wasn't THAT bad. But if he's being a diva. It's not even like he does MOVIES. You're an actor. WHAT THE HELL DO YOU HAVE TO FALL BACK ON!
11Aussielo noted that it was not TR who was the diva making demands...so there is another cast member who hasn't been featured much this year that the producers are angry with. My money is on Dempsey - he hasn't had any storylines this season and he would probably be the one to make demands (being a bigger - read movie - star).
12Grey's is really going to the dogs. This is crazy. I liked George!
13felicityporter — I totally agree with your bet there. Hopefully that's not another departure, though — I don't know how much more I can take!
14Nooooo!
15I'm so over people randomly leaving!!!! ugh!
I dont blame him, he is an amazing actor so talented and shonda has him at a 2 when his character could be an 11 in terms of storyline and ability.
16OR he should have left when he was offerent a job at Mercy West!!! He's had a lot of exit strategies. I don't care if he leaves- does that mean they can bring back Isiah Washington AND get rid of Katherine HAG-l since her and TR are BFF?
17Oh and felicityporter- I loved your Dempsey, movie star comment. Can you imagine Patrick Dempsey in his dressing room, being a diva: "I was in Made of Honor dammit- now bring me the right bottled water or you are all fiiiireeed!"
Tee-hee
18I really don't see Dempsey being a diva. I've heard he's very nice and very down to earth. I can't really see T.R. being a diva though, I mean I can kind of since he's BFF's with Katherine Heigl. I don't think they'll get rid of McDreamy, I think they're just trying not to focus on Mere&Der so much.
"Meh. I never cared much for George. He blinked too much, as if I was supposed to guess what he was feeling through his Morse-like crazy blinking."
Ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
19If this rumour is true, then good for him. He's a very talented young actor, and this show has turned into a hot tranny mess that he probably no longer wants to be associated with. I don't understand what's keeping amazing actors like Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson on this trainwreck. They can do so much better. I mean, the writers have such amazing resources to work with - a great cast, amazing guest stars... And the best they can come up with is sex with a ghost? Get out now, TR. I hope to see him find success elsewhere, on a show or movie that won't waste his time and talent.
20I liked George in the first two seasons, but lately he's been more annoying, so I'm not THAT sad to see him go...
21Please no..I really like George in Grey's Anatomy!
22I love George SO MUCH. But he isn't even in any episode/storyline anymore. And whenever he is, he doesn't go down that well. Grey's latest attempt was the plot between him and Lexie, which is obviously down the drain now. And I've been liking Grey's lately more than before, when it was getting really hard and boring to watch. So maybe George leaving isn't the worst thing...? It would only a be a few less lines an episode of a character that is never even really there to begin with...*sigh*
23Shonda made it so that George became this unimportant character. There are some episodes when we dont even see a real story come of him. it's time for him to go.
24nice news. Now katherine, then maybe I´ll watch Grey´s again. I love the Morse comment
25well at least we all know that it's not mcdreamy who was making waves with the cast. you have to admit that it would have been upsetting if he was the one that was doing it. i think that it's a shame that TR wants to leave a show that kind of put him on the map but i'm sure that he's got his own reasons. right?
26George has always been one of my favorites. I'll miss him.
27I would really hate to work on the Grey's Anatomy set - it seems to be a terrible work environment with all of these people leaving and people always complaining about the long hours.
28I thought Katherine Heigl was leaving? I figured since Denny showed up and he keeps saying "I'm here for you", he means he's there to bring her back with him - as in sh's going to die.
Since TR and her are such good buddies mabye he's decided to leave as well?!
I actually love this season! I'm not wild about the new girl Sadie though, but we'll have to see what they have planned for her!
29I have never been a George fan. When George slept with Merideth and she cried, I laughed. I'll be glad to see him go.
30ooh, I've been thinking the same thing waffle! Every time he says, "I'm here for you", it makes me think she's dying. We'll see. I like George, and I'd be sad to see him go.
31From what I've seen and read in the all honest tabs and mags, KH and TRK are pathetic entitled actors. Let him go. Let her go. Who cares...the show is boring anyway.
32Whether by design or not, Grey's Anatomy really is being de-gayed. Anyway, the writing for Grey's Anatomy has been almost as disappointing as the writing for Heroes in the past couple seasons. With the Brooke Smith controversy, the idea that Katherine Hiegl wants out, and TR Knight requesting his departure from the show I think it's about time the show ended. That's not viable since Grey's Anatomy is still getting decent ratings, but it's really just painful knowing this once great show can't seem to find any sort of real homeostasis and continues to produce poor episodes week in and week out. Knight's character has been poorly written for, as has Katherine Hiegl's character (I can't wait to find out what the next excuse will be to bring Jeffrey Dean Morgan back to the show next season), as did Brooke Smith's character, I don't see Shonda Rhimes & co. digging their way out of the poohole their show has been dug into. Onward and upward TR!
33good riddance to bad rubbish i say , what a douchebag he and Katherine Heigl are(more KH than him) , i hope she goes soon as well. They are looking a gift horse in the mouth so i hope they get what's coming to them - i.e not any more great roles.
Sorry, it's just that their self-importance is insufferable esp since they haven't been "stars" for that long, pay your dues man, pay your dues.
