This week's episode of Gossip Girl is pretty dark, and I'm not just talking about the funeral wardrobe. In the spirit of not being too spoilery, I won't say who kicks the bucket, but let's just say it sounds like Dart Lass. Tragedy seems to have put a halt to this humanizing of Chuck that's gone on all season (hanging with Eric, softening to Blair, etc.). This episode's awesome because Ed Westwick is given carte blanche to be as over-the-top as he could possibly muster.

The result? A lot of lurking and a new Dark Knight-esque voice — but more on that in a second. The other plotline swirling around in this episode is the Lily-Rufus-Dan-Serena "I like you but our parents like each other" complication that made my head spin. And then there's a wedding. Oh and then there's the big old Lily secret that threatens to tear the world apart! OK, not really — I just love typing that. The secret's a doozy, though, so let's start chatting about it. Just read more.
- Grandma van der Woodsen is definitely in the house in this episode. It's never quite clear if CeCe has good intentions or evil, but she definitely likes gin in the morning, which is fun.
- Everyone is sad and shocked by Bart's death but no one can reach Chuck. Blair says the hotel told her they're sending up food, so at least she knows that "there's something alive in that room."
- I'm no fan of Aaron's because he lacks a personality and doesn't make up for that by being fun to look at, but I was sort of on his side initially with Dan being all over his girlfriend. (Serena: "Dan's been such a rock.") It's obnoxious when they both get texts from her and Dan's all, "I got mine first!"
- Lily tells Rufus that she feels guilty that she was about to end her marriage to Bart when he died and she couldn't bear to listen to his final voice message to her. Well, in true Bass form, Bart didn't leave a bunch of sweet nothings on her phone but a threat that he knows her secrets. Sheesh.
- When Chuck finally emerges he's . . . disheveled! And mean. And tossing around terms like "whore" and "b*tch." (On Lily: "B*tch is the reason my father is dead.")
- He's also sporting a funny, deep, gravelly voice that sounds like Christian Bale as Batman, but worse. It made me laugh.
- Chuck's also super wasted, because nothing numbs grief like hitting the bottle (. . . or the drugs?) on this show.
- Most of the episode goes by with nearly everyone in the dark about Lily and Rufus's little meet-up when Bart died. So when Dan gets kicked out of the funeral by Chuck and he tells Rufus that according to Chuck, "my father killed his father," it's actually news to him.
- So everyone's trying to get through to Chuck (including Blair, who declares her love for him!) but the cheesiest line of the night goes to Eric, who's saddled with delivering this doozy: "I just lost my stepfather. I don't want to lose my brother, too."
- Poor Blair! After she tells him powerful things like "We're Chuck and Blair!" he spits back, "We talked about this. You are not my girlfriend."
- Thankfully Blair has Cyrus to lean on. Aw! How cute are they?
- The wedding's so cute, too. Love Eleanor and Cyrus together. But here's a question: Why did the writers bother making Aaron Cyrus's son when they never interact? Blair and Serena haven't even discussed (as you'd expect BFFs to) the fact that Serena's boyfriend will now be Blair's stepbrother. Which actually makes them even, as the guy Blair loves is Serena's stepbrother. Or was. Man, this is complicated.
- And while we're on the topic of crazy stuff, it's weird to me that for Serena it's either Dan or Aaron. Because her mom loves Rufus, she buries her feelings for Dan and therefore has to "try to make things work with Aaron." If you have to try so hard, maybe you should just be single for a sec.
- I knew it! Lily had a secret love-baby with Rufus back in the day. I can't wait for the Serena/Dan half-brother/sister to show up!
- OK, I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I totally cried during Eleanor and Cyrus's vows . . . followed by more crying when Chuck and Blair hug in her room. Pathetic, really, but I couldn't help it.
- How pretty did Dorota look? She's so sparkly at the wedding!
- Less sparkly: Chuck's note to Blair. "I'm sorry for everything. You deserve much better. Don't come looking for me. —Chuck"

I loved this episode, and i cried when Blair finally told chuck she loved him, i think i screamed too! It was a very emotional episode and i can't believe lily has another child somehwere....she is creepy!
1I LOVED this ep! I immediately rewatched the Chuck and Blair scene when he came to her room ... sooo tender!!!
2OMG best episode ever!
First off "I won't say who kicks the bucket, but let's just say it sounds like Dart Lass." made me LOL
Dorota looked so pretty! I was so glad to see she got to be a bridesmaid and she looked so happy. Elenor and cyrus make my heart melt! So sweet! And Cyrus and Blaire was so cute!
Aaron needs to go. He is NOT cute and he's so skeevy. Ugh I can't stand to see Serena kiss him! I hope he goes away soon.
I love Dan, he always has the best lines. Ahahahahahahahaha "Yeah that's old news." he always makes me giggle.
Poor Chuck. He looked super sexy though
The voice was a bit odd but he looked
gorgeous so it's okay. I can't wait until January 5th!
Lilly was looking really pretty with her hair down and such. I wonder if she actually had the baby or had an abortion. I was a bit confused by the whole situation! Poor Rufus though
3I also cried when Blair and chuck hugged and when Blair told Chuck she loved him. I can't stand Aaron i wish he would shave his dirtstache and get rid of those stupid scarves
4Ugh Dan and Aaron! Those two gross wanna be hipsters trying to one-up each other made me totally roll my eyes every time.
Ugh Lily too. I mean, honestly, whether you were planning to leave your husband or not, it's disrespectful to run off with your would-be-lover two days after he dies. But then, it was kind of disrespectful to marry him when you're in love with someone else, so I guess I should've expected it.
I had the opposite reaction to Lily's secret. I thought it would be way more juicy. This was almost...expected.
And finally, maybe it's just me, but I thought Chuck was even hotter when he was all disheveled and gravelly voiced. I would totally give him a hug
I just hope he doesn't get hurt next time - the previews kind of freaked me out. And we have
to wait until January?!?!?!
5Also, did anyone else know that the actress who plays Dorota is only about 30? She graduated high school in '97!
6tlsgirl, it's not just you... disheveled chuck is the hottest thing happening on tv. i just wanted to finger-comb his hair (haha).
the whole serena "try to make it work" thing was ridiculous. she's 17. it need not be one or the other! you live in nyc - get the eff out of the house and meet some new cute less-poser-y boys.
love blair. love dorota and truly can't believe she's only 30. nuts!
7Oh, and one more thing
Could Serena's dress at the wedding have been any shorter?
You could practically give her a gyno exam just by looking at her.
8Definitely a way different episode. They're growing up a bit.
Blair was annoying when she was being tart to Chuck in the beginning. Are you freaking kidding, his dad died, don't be mean! I loved when she started being human though. And when Chuck turned to her. OMG! Loved that. I was so sad for his character all episode though. That's a lot to deal with.
Lily's secret? Called that one. Not earth shattering, but it will definitely make things weirder for Dan and Serena.
Aaron - ew ew ew ew ew. DO NOT WANT! He's so icky. I want Serena to stop trying so hard. Just because you can't be with Dan doesn't mean you should settle for the slime ball. I actually yelled at the TV when he said he might be falling for her.
And Buzz - I THOUGHT THE SAME THING about Cyrus and Aaron. They haven't said a word to each other. It's bizarre.
Loved Blair and Cyrus' moment. He's such a positive part of the show! Also, loving Dorota.
9tls -
Her clothes are ALWAYS short!
10OMG i love Chuck. His voice was weird this episode but he did a pretty good job, especially when he broke down!!!!!!!!!! aww and blair's hug was touching!
11Kay and I'm so glad they added Cyrus to the show. He's the best, I have always loved Wallace Shawn he is so darn cute!!! It's hard not to find him lovable.
And Aaron is SOOOOOOOOO boring. Gawd I've never seen a character with so little personality. it's just like BLAH
I also enjoyed disheveled Chuck. I cannot believe I have to wait until January for a new episode!
12So the baby is alive? I thought that the hospital visit was her having an abortion.
13Chuck was amazing this episode, my heart broke a little when it showed his reaction to Blair's declaration. But then he said what he said, and I felt even worse. But his face of anguish mixed with hope just killed me. I didn't cry, but man I felt it. And then when he shows up at Blair's place (how did he slip in with no one noticing? is there a backdoor I'm not aware of..?), just had to feel for him. He's learning how not to be his dad (all closed-off and what-not). Slowly.
14loved chuck in this epi too. i will probably get slaughtered for saying this, but does anyone else think that chuck would have made an awesome (and way better) edward in twilight than robert pattinson?? i couldnt help but think that all the way through the episode.
15I loved this episode! And this is probably weird but when Chuck was acting pissed off and such I found him quite sexy. I also screamed with joy and cried a little when Blair found Chuck in her room. I thought for sure he was coming around, but in true Chuck Bass form departed without committing.
I am also very excited to see what has become of Lily & Rufus’ child…if anything at all. I don’t know if I will make it to January for a new episode but I guess I will have to. This was definitely one of my fave episodes
161. lilly's kid could be serena. that would def be ewwwww. i doubt it will end up that way, but i'm sure there will be a momentary scare.
2. they need to chill w/ serena's outifits. not only are they far too short, but the cleavage is unreal. as in, are those real??? i'd like to know what undergarment they are using on her b/c boobs that large are never that perky even if you're 12! & the shirts are so low she's always just a second from a wardrobe malfunction. am i supposed to believe a high schooler walks around in double stick tape all day?
17Chuck made me swoon this episode!! It was the best and I can hardly wait until January. Cassedy you're not alone in thinking that on Daily Intel a bunch of comments shared your views. He would have made a good Edward... I wonder if they can cast him as a vampire in one of the upcoming movies....
18this is the first gossip girl thats ever made me cry. multiple times! when blair admits her love and he turns away. the wedding ceremony. and then omg the scene with chuck on blair's bed. he just looked so....broken. (uh, and totally hot the entire show)
great great episode!
19I really liked this episode!
I thought Lily had an abortion though, and as soon as she said French hospital I knew it had something to do with a baby! But I wonder about all that stuff about her being committed? What happened then?
Blair and Chuck are looove.
And I hate Aaron. Still. He has to go away. Serena's being silly.
20cally8980 - she had the kid. otherwise, why would Rufus ask if it was a boy or girl?
On the topic of Chuck, I have to agree with all of you who commented on how hot he was last night. He was doing the whole brooding thing very, very well. I thought Ed Westwick did a fantastic job.
21I'm so upset that i have to wait til 5th of the January...
22Loved the episode! Very emotional, a perfect play of cast that made me cry.! Still can't believe that it will be the last season...(((
Chuck and Blair forever.!
And the promo made me surprising a lottt!!! Hope Chuck'll be okay...
Dorota as a bridesmaid ... love.
Aaron. DO. NOT. WANT. barf.
Chuck. Swoon.
Serena. Needs longer clothes.
23hokiepokie I guess that makes sense because don't you have to have an abortion before you know the sex? Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know too much about abortions.
I just re-watched this and the part where Aaron said 'I think I'm falling in love with you' BARF! Ugh so awkward and gross!
24I was thinking the Secret would be way more juicy than an illigitimate child. Blah, boring. Serena needs to be single for once. Ever heard of it, sister? I love Chuck and Blair. Chuck needs a harder slap to the face than what Lily gave him though. I'm sure Bart wouldn't want Chuck wallowing away in self-pity. Aaron, die please.
25I liked it!!
Dan is dumb. I hate how he studders and does his confused look as sarcasm. Aaron is ugly. Serena needs a 3rd guy!!!
But there are no Vanessa in this episode. Yay
26Not to sound like a broken record, but yes: Chuck. Drunk. Totally hot. Is that so wrong? IDK, but I loooooved him in this episode. And I was with everyone else, crying as Blaire comforted Chuck on her bed. Sigh...
Does no one else think that Lily terminated her pregnancy at the hospital in France? Rufus says, "Just tell me one thing: Was it a boy or a girl?" Was. That's what I'm guessing. Or maybe she had the baby and put it up for adoption?
Lilly is such a mess. I find her and Rufus incredibly immature (moreso than the kids on the show, sometimes!) and totally lost in what they want/what they're doing with their lives. Let's be real here! Why did Lilly ever marry Bart to begin with?
Dan and Serena are EXHAUSTING. Just be together. And be boring. And be done. Why is Aaron so into her anyway? I mean, she's great, but I'd like to see some more character development between the two of them.
And for the love of all that is holy, JENNY HUMPHREY: Chill with the eyeliner, and lose the bangs. Please.
27Leighton looked so pretty in last night's episode.
The Blair/Chuck scene at the end was so sweet. I started crying when he reached for her arm. And then when Blair was watching him sleep. Aww...so cute. I love them.
I don't like Aaron at all, but I don't want Serena to get back with Dan either. I find all the Serena/Dan parts incredibly annoying.
Dorota is so cute. I love her. She reminds me of someone. I just can't place it.
The Blair/Cyrus moment was adorable. I loved when she was like 'wait, its not enough.' Awww.
I totally keep forgetting that Aaron is Cyrus's son. At first I was like, 'why is he even at the wedding' and then it sunk in that he was actually Cyrus's son.
And YAY. No Vanessa.
28KindersurpriseKa - this will be the last season? That sucks, it's just starting to get good!
Chuck was fantastic, and Aaron was pointless. Teenagers do not talk about "trying to make it work." They get together and break up on whims.
29Aaron and Serena can't go anywhere with their relationship if Aaron is jewish.
30And since when is this the last season?
31Ya, this episode made me cry. Awww Chuck =(
32Chuck really did rule this episode. But it is always touching when Blair's humanity surfaces. I really thought she and Cyrus were very sweet together. I have to admit, I loved the wedding- it was sort of everything that the Bass/Van der Woodson nuptials were not- spontaneous, loving, truly joyful. LOVED Dorota right there as one of the family - and with a sparkly 'maid' type headband! I wonder if Blair took her headband shopping! Still hate Aaron and his stache and his scarves. But Chuck turning Blair away - and then showing up to just CRY was really great. Also, no one has pointed out yet that when Chuck left Blair with the note - HE HAD COVERED HER UP! Awwwww.... I'm just picturing that- B must be a really sound sleeper- he writes the note, pulls the coverlet over her and lets her sleep while he slips off...
Lots of other silly things in this episode- I have also heard a rumor that Eric is really Rufus' son. but it would also be sort of fun if a new French sibling were introduced. At this late date, just going to France for an abortion would be awkward to have announced, but it was so long ago, it doesn't seem scandalous enough to have Bart or anyone else that worked up. Love how Lily is always so totally convinced of her own rightness- she is truly a creature of privilege in every way- so ultimately convinced that everything she does is right, no matter how it turns out.
33I got mad at Lily when she basically told Chuck "well if you didn't call your dad and tell him I was all up on Rufus he wouldn't have died!" I was like B*tch no you don't!
I loved the Blair and Cyrus hug moment. You can tell that he is a better parent than her mother.
One of the other best parts of the episode: no Vanessa!
34Can Serena wear something not sexy for just one episode? I mean, a 1-shoulder evening dress for a funeral? In winter? We can't get at least 2 shoulders and a higher neckline?
35I'm also putting my money on Serena's breasts as the star of the rumored spinoff.
36Am I completely weird for thinking this: why can't Lily and Rufus AND Dan and Serena be together? Dan and Serena are like, 5 minutes away from graduating, and moving out and going to college. It's not like they grew up together as brother and sister, and they wouldn't live as brother and sister. I guess if they had a really nasty third (?) breakup that would complicate family gatherings...I don't know.
I was a little confused by Rufus saying, "WAS it a boy or a girl?" too. I guess that could just be awkward wording. I think Lily must have given the baby up for adoption - why else would she spend so much time "in the hospital" - had it been an abortion, she could have gone away for a weekend and no one would ever know.
37I don't think Eric could be Rufus' son, because he's the little brother...and didn't Lily go away when she was 19? I do remember back in Season 1 Eric's brown roots being a topic of discussion, so that would be kind of funny to hail back to that.
38I think they dress Serena in revealing clothing to distract from Blake's acting.
39LOVED Leighton last night, she looked so pretty last night.
Chuck was so mean!
But when Blair hugged Chuck in her room, I was so haaaappy, I thought they finally were going to be together.. until that note, BOO!
And I know a spoiler about the love child but I won't spoil it for you guys
I thought Rufus and Lily would finally be able to take off but it doesn't look like it from the end of the episode..
40omg, missbrooke, nice call! while i love me some gg - and actually kind of like serena, the character - blake lively is a terrrrrible actress.
41great episode! made me tear up more than once. i was so upset when chuck left at the end - they've been building to a chuck/blair reunion for soo long, i thought this was finally it, and the 'grieving chuck' plotline was a really good way to lead him back to her...and then he left AGAIN!!
jillz, i was also totally appalled that lily tried to blame chuck for bart's death! how could she say that to him, even if it was true? she should be above that at her age. and then she had the nerve to slap him!
i knew the lily secret was a rufus lovechild, it was so obvious and boring. i actually don't like their plotline, and don't care if they get together or not. i just can't get into it.
also, what was with serena TELLING her mom she was going to argentina, not asking? what 17 year old vacations with her boyfriend for the holidays!?
and to sing with the chorus: YAY for no vanessa! fugly aaron needs to die! serena needs to stop displaying those fake chemical balls on her chest! i have nothing bad to say about little j though, i love her!
42When we someone call Lily out for being the WORST mother ever??? Let me make plans to go away with my old lover the day after my husband dies...but first let me blame his death on his son, let my 17 yrold daughter go away with her douchey bf, and leave my lonely, heartbroken son alone on the holidays. And all the while she is wearing leggings. Yuck.
43Completely cried when Chuck and Blair hugged on the bed. Best Chuck episode to date. Aaron is annoying and the fact that they had to complicate it by making him Cyrus' son when they ARE NEVER AROUND EACH OTHER annoyed me too.
Excited to find out if Lily had an abortion, if Serena is Rufus' daugther, or if there is a half brother/sister somewhere around.
Humphrey men were a bit whiny, sarcastic, way too much for me this episode.
PS- Previews for January 5th are exciting. Chuck definitely won't die, but he is out of control screaming I'm Chuck Bass which = way more hotness for all of us Chuck lovers. :
:
44i loved this episode. chuck and blairs parts
45were the best. i felt so sorry for chuck
and shed a little tear.
Am i the only one that hated this episode? I've lost that loving feeling between any of the couples on the show. I thought Chuck's melodramatic brooding was laughable and I even thought Blair was a bit selfish and whiney. I think she was more concerned that Chuck didn't really need her than she was about Chuck.
46Is one of the best episode ever ,, i love it i really do!!!
47Chuck is why I watch this show. He did great last night. Not perfect but great. That scene at the end when he was in Blair's room was amazing.
48we pop/buzz readers love chuck!
49I just want to start off with, in case I forget which I probably won't, Ed Westwick has never looked so freaking hot as he did in last nights episode. I completely loved this episode so much. I want to save the best for last as well so here I go.
50First, because I loved what was going on in this episode, I was able to tolerate Aaron, but only because his part was so minor. And I'm with you Buzz, Serena should just try being single, its not so hard, and she should try to get over Dan because what they're just gonna realize, is that its not so much that they have feelings for each other, but that they're just really good friends.BTW. Was anyone else annoyed by the pronounciation of Buenos Aires b/c I seriously was.
On to her mom. She is so meant to be with Rufus. And I also sensed they had a love child, which is why Rufus can't be with her because she lied. I also felt bad for her when she was called a b*tch and a wh*re by, in my opinion, the best actor of the night.
Second, I actually like Cyrus. I was afraid he might be a little cheesy, but I just love how fatherly his with Blair. And you're so right again, why make Aaron be someone's stepson, if I've never seen them talking. Still hate Aaoron.
Finally, once again Chuck was on fire. Literally! He was hot and quick with the insults. I'll just say this when he told Eric they weren't related, I got mad because this kid felt so close to him and confided with him. And I cried like four times and all reasons had to do with Chuck including the Eric scene. I cried when Blair finally said, "Because I love you." I literally cheered and then he said, "Well that's too bad." OMG. He broke my heart when he said that. I also cried when Blair was trying to be angry but just couldn't and hugged him because of how in love she was. It was so touching as he even went in to pull her hand closer. And then my last tears were given with that note. They're so right for each other and he shouldn't feel like he's not good enough to be better, although I see where he's coming from. Chuck Bass lost his mind last night, but gained a heart! Crazy. And yes I think Ed Westwick looked his best and did his best acting ever last night, even if you think he sounded like Batman.
