i liked the way that she did twilight...it was an awesome movie.....but if they find another producer that can make new moon better i dont see where that would hurt....

So excited to hear they are getting a new director. She had a cool vision, but could have done without the extra cheesiness!

I haven't read the books but have taken my daughter to see the movie (twice) and I got the distinct impression that it would have been much more interesting in the hands of a director who was better at story telling.

can we have a new makeup artist and stylist? oh and can they actually have a special effects person instead of whatever was in that movie? lol

Let me begin with saying that I loved Twilight. But the directing was overly-dramatic. I think they acting was really awful too, but it's like the junkfood awful, bad but so good, haha. I just like to look at Rob so, I don't think the new director will help all that much, but I guess we'll have to see!

I had to vote yes. Don't get me wrong, I love Catherine Hardwicke's other films. 'Thirteen' and 'Lords of Dogtown' were great and seem more suited to her SoCal style. I would have loved if Twilight turned out like those films! A little more grainy and organic; it would have been an interesting spin on an otherwise fantastical love story.

It just seems like Catherine and Summit have very different ideas about what the films should look like. I was disappointed in the pace and special effects of Twilight. The casting and acting was decent; the script was a little weak. Everything seemed rushed and well, trite.

I'm worried about the saga's future as a film series. With no plans for other books to be released, what's in place to keep the current fans interested for 4-5 more years? The media keeps comparing the series to Harry Potter but one major difference is the first couple of movies debuted while the books were being released. Meyer tentatively scrapped Midnight Sun and has said she doesn't have any plans to extend the series any further.

I enjoyed reading the Twilight; the books were a fun escape back to the days of young love and 'anything's possible.' I hope my dire outlook for the future films' success is wrong.

oh and the scene where ... I dunno, some guy was asking Bella to prom and Edward is in the background was so over the top drama that people in the theater (myself included) were lol.

I just saw the movie over the weekend and I did enjoy it but there was a lot of corny scenes. The part in the tree for instance. They could have expanded on the family history like they did in the book in her visit to the house instead of putting her in a tree. I was disappointed that it did not follow the book entirely but that never happens in movies anyway. And Krisin's character in the movie was not as whitty as the character in the book. She was a smartass at times in the book and that did not come across in the movie. She looked scared all the time and her acting reminded me of Mark Walberg, always breathless- sounding and unsmiling. That gets annoying after a while. I'd like to see Christopher Nolan take over.

While I think the script was somewhat at fault, the direction was BY FAR the biggest problem with the film. I'm thrilled to hear that they're recognizing that!

And in response to "bad acting" as an actor myself, you're only as good as those you work with. Just look at the Harry Potter franchise? It had a rough start but when they changed directors, now it's pretty decent.

I really liked the movie and my daughter loved it, but they needed a better makeup artist. Too much cheese factor and just corniness. I like the idea of it being okay for tweens, though. I hope that doesn't change, by making it more suggestive and with vulgar language, etc. That isn't necessary.

Yes--I'm glad there will be a new director. I like Catherine, but I was slightly disappointed with the movie. And New Moon is my favorite book in the series, so I have even higher hopes for the film.

I agree with what most people have been saying. I have said it before and will say it again, Catherine didn't pay enough attention to the book to know what we (the fans) wanted in a movie.

I think the cheese factor in the film comes largely from the source material and Meyer's suggestion that certain things be kept in. (Like that terrible and corny "the lion fell in love with the lamb" line, which Hardwicke wanted to take out, but Meyer insisted be kept in because "people have that line tattooed on them.") The movie was shot beautifully and made a nice use of the hunting theme throughout the film visually. I am not anywhere near as devoted to the book as many of you seem to be, and I was most of all impressed with the film's repacing of the story. Meyer's book is 350-400 pages of exposition before anything really happens, and the film picks up that pace. I probably wouldn't have seen Twilight without Hardwicke's name attached to it, and I'm disheartened to hear that she has not been asked to direct New Moon.

If anything I thought Melissa Rosenberg the screenwriter should've gotten the ax before Catherine did! Melissa developed a script that left out BIG portions of the book that left readers upset and left the non readers utterly confused at some things such as Jasper's constipated face!

The Twilight movie was very disappointing. Hopefully a new director will make New Moon worth seeing.

I'm glad that she got replaced because the direction is one of the worst things about the movie.

I agree with fieryelectra for the most part. Most of the cheesy lines/scenes in the film are directly from the book and Stephenie Meyer wanted them kept in (unfortunately ). The worst scene in the entire movie for me was the part where Bella tells Edward that she knows that he's a vampire. The camera angles were so odd and trying too hard to be artistic, plus the writing was cheesy as hell (not to mention this scene happens in the car on the way back from Port Angeles, but they had to make it more "dramatic").

I think the next movie will benefit from a new director. I don't think Catherine did a terrible job, but it could have been (should have been!) better. Edward and Bella looked lovely and amazing throughout, but their love story wasn't explained well enough. I'm rooting for Marc Foster as the new director. He did a great job at creating a fantastical world in Finding Neverland.

The movie was very disappointing and cheesy. I actually got quite bored in between the movie, the director could have done a better job. I guess its also because the Twilight books only start picking up after half the book.

Im glad. She just didnt do a good job. I agree with what everyone said about the camera angles and how awkward they were most of the time. I just wanted Bella and Edward in the same frame for goodness sakes. It could do with a meatier script. The movie felt too long to be taking out big chunks of the book and then nothing happens. I hope they give it to another female director. I would say Mira Nair but I dont think this is her taste, though she did a beautiful adaptation of The Namesake.

i wouldn't call myself a fan of either (the book or the movie), but i think they did the book a disservice by choosing a director who was going to focus on being hip and trendy and make it all about teenage angst. it would have been better if they'd played up the vampire aspects (and yes, spent some money on special effects)

well i think that it's kind of a two prong thing. i didn't read the books until after i saw the movie - and i think that it was partly to do with the fact that i REALLY LIKED the movie - but after reading the books - i can tell you that there's a lot more that could have been done with it. i think that a new director could really take it places and we'll be able to see that in the next one. i just wonder what's going to be the end result and whether they'll be willing to do the last 2 as well...and perhaps the 5th book? hopefully?

HELL YES!!!! also, let's throw in a good special effects and makeup artist while we're at it. i think she made the movie have more of a cheesy element. and especially since bella's so isolated in new moon, last thing i want to see is her depression - i rather see the development of her relationship with jacob.

didn't melissa what's-her-face write the script? and she also writes dexter? i had high hopes for a good script due to that alone (because dexter is just so well-written) but it didn't turn out the way i thought it would.

i liked the feel hardwicke gave twilight, but the movie could have been so much more to convert skeptics who think this series is only for crazed teenage girls. i don't feel the screenwriter did enough to capture the emotions felt by readers nor enough of the supernatural aspects of what makes meyer's vampires so different and interesting.

therefore, i do not think the blame is hardwicke's alone for poor fan response. the whole timing issue behind her departure seems odd to me considering how excited hardwicke appeared to be about continuing the series. i hope that is the truth and summit didn't just use her to get the twilight money machine rolling.

I wanted her axed, simply because Bella and Edward seemed more afraid of each other than in love with each other. Maybe it was the acting, but I think it was the direction, and the horrid script. Maybe we should have axed the writer.

I was happy to hear about the new director..I think New Moon is going to be great =)
