Yes, we've heard this one before — but this time, it sounds a little more serious. The CW has confirmed that it's looking into the possibility of a Gossip Girl spinoff for next Fall.
"If it's the right idea, we'd all embrace it and be enthusiastic," the CW's entertainment president told The Hollywood Reporter. She wouldn't suggest any details on what the right idea might be, but Variety dug up a few hints: The show would most likely focus on one of the nine regular characters, but it probably wouldn't be Jenny Humphrey, whose character got the spinoff The It Girl in the book version of Gossip Girl. But there's "always a chance a new character could be planted" in a special episode of the show, too — a la the way Melrose Place spun off of the original 90210.
If they're seeking out a plot for the show, I've got a couple of suggestions:
- Send Serena to college. She already launched one show, and I don't think the Gossip Girl mothership would miss her that much if Blair and the others were still around.
- Base it on Georgina Sparks, who's likely to return to the show in the Spring anyway.
- Make it all Chuck Bass, all the time. I'd hate to see him torn from the Upper East Siders (especially Blair), but I'd also have a hard time arguing with more Chuck Bass.
Do you think a Gossip Girl spin-off is a good idea or just more of the same? And if it goes forward, what do you think the plot should be?

I'm not into the idea, but I've accepted that the writers in Hollywood are incapable of original thought anymore...so, that said, I'd like to see Serena gone. That way, she can have her own show that I can ignore, and continue to watch the characters I actually like (although, maybe J could go with her, and Vanessa, come to think of it).
1Georgina all the way! I'd really look forward to that show + it would be so awesome to see more of her and get a perspective into her cunning ways!
2I agree with both of you! I am not really into the idea of a spin-off...BUT if one does have to happen, I'd vote for Georgina!
3A Gossip Girl spin-off would be kind of a "Joey" situation...he just wasn't as good without the other 5, and a lone GG character just wouldn't cut it.
4well - i wonder how that would do. it's not often that spin offs doing REALLY well but anything is possible i suppose
5I don't know if I would be able to watch a spin off of GG. I've never been able to watch any other spin off... I might be able to watch a spin off, if they did introduce a totally new character all together... Georgina was too conniving for my taste...
6Dorota!!!!!!! I know she has the webisodes, but I still love her.
I also like the Chuck Bass idea because I don't see enough of him on the show.
7Spin off Dan Humphrey...spin him right off a cliff
8I'm kind of in agreement with mydiadem.
9No to the spin-off.
how bout a blair and chuck all about show! lol
well ofcourse youd have to bring in dorotha! lol
but yeah how bout send serena away... i wouldnt really be that interested lol... they really need to focus more on leighton!
10Argh! Spin-offs suck...just take a look at Melrose Place and Private Practice.
11I think it's to early for a spinoff and I don't like the idea.
12no, not georgina
13Not Georgina- she is a complete waste of life and you need at least an ounce of worth to base an entire show off a character.
I don't really want to get rid of any of the good characters and wouldn't watch a new show with a bad one (Vanessa, Jenny)
Maybe they should have a Bart Bass spinoff. He could build an empire in heaven (or hell?), get together with Chuck's dead Mom, and then maybe even come around and haunt Lily a la Denny and Izzie...Joking...
14Georgina Georgina Georgina! That would be SOOO much drama!
15OMG bsglrok132, I was thinking of Joey immediately when this story broke. None of these characters are stand alone. They are entertaining b/c they are all together.
16i hope its not serena. blake and her character bug the crap out of me!
17This might be an odd argument but I think CW's audience is small enough and niche enough that a spin-off would probably not lose much from the original.
That said, I think the most viable way to spin-off the series would be having one show focus on the now college/post high school students while focusing the other show on Little J and Eric and new characters.
18Ditto Sexy
The best idea would be to do a spin-off that is actually the original show - meaning the original crew goes to Yale (minus Jenny and Eric) and the show continues with the Constance Ballard crew which I guess would have to involve Jenny and Eric but this way we retain Lily/Rufus storyline and then focus on some of the younger kids in school (i.e. Blair Wannabe, maybe the new Chuck and Blair intro'd this week...and others that they can continue to introduce throughout the season).
19Vanessa and Rufus should get their own show about running the gallery or something. They are the two most annoying characters on the show and I would love to see them both gone.
20I love GG but I'm not sure about a spin-off. Funny no one's mentioned Nate.
21no spin-off please..
22and egawd - no georgina sparks!
i cant stand michelle
i can't understand why someone would want to ruin a good thing. but i suppose i could live with GG without vanessa, jenny, or dan. their characters are a good balance to the upper eastsiders, but the most interesting characters are blair and chuck--they have to stay on GG!
23Spin-offs always turn out bad! So please, no GG spin-off!
24I love Blair and Chuck. I can't stand this new Aaron guy with Serena. Ick! No spin-offs. I watch Grey's and love Addison but can't stand Private Practice. Hate the spinoffs.
25I don't think we need a GG spin-off, but sexymotherfakir's idea sounds good.
26The first thing I thought was Georgina!! But, I'm a Michelle junkie, so you know- I'm probably biased.
I did however, really like her character in a "omg, she's so evil" kind of way.
27They do have a lot of great characters and I ADORE Jenny Humphrey...she's easily my favorite. She's not going to college, she's not in the private school any more, and she's a couple years younger than everyone else...AND she's the only one who really has her own cool thing going on. I think she's the culprit.
28DO NOT split up Chuck and Blair!
Vanessa is too horribly portrayed by that actress to carry a full series on her own.
Nate's just a beautiful dipstick.
The only other person who could carry a show is Serena, but what would they do with her? Send her to California for another OC crap fest. I don't think so!
i think a spinoff would be a bad idea but oh well, im BORED outta my mind at serena, they can get rid of her n stick her in her own spinoff show (with dan maybe) , that would b great, cause i wudnt b watching it
