At Dunder-Mifflin this week, Michael finds out that their branch has a surplus (I love Oscar's patient surplus explanation using the lemonade stand analogy) of $4,300 that they must use by the end of the day or it will be deducted from next year's budget. The staff is then divided on how to use the money: new chairs, or a new copier? Elsewhere, Dwight, Andy and Angela are butting heads while planning Andy and Angela's wedding at Schrute Farms.

So, this episode of The Office isn't totally chock-full of laughs, but I liked that the entire office is engaged in doing something together. To check out some of my favorite parts and to share your own, read more.
- Pam's hair is so pretty! She is just looking better and better every episode.
- With the surplus money, Toby wants to have the air quality in the office tested. There's the radon coming from below, the asbestos in the ceiling — "These are silent killers." Of course, Michael's immediate response: "You are the silent killer." (To which Toby mutters, "You'll see.")
- Jim wants a new copier instead of new chairs, openly disagreeing with Pam. This earns him some admiration from Meredith and Creed. Jim's little shiver after Pam doesn't-threaten him about the chair-copier issue is pretty adorable.
- During the wedding discussions, Andy, Angela and Dwight hit a wall on the topic of bathrooms. Andy wants to "three-way this little issue." They head off to Schrute Farms together.
- At the farm, "manure covers up the smell of the slaughter house." This leads to my favorite exchange in the episode:
Angela: "Do you have to slaughter on our wedding day?"
Dwight: "You want to eat, don't you?"
Andy: "Dwight, if we pay extra, can you slaughter the entrees the day before?" - Oscar and Jim suck up to Michael by going out to lunch with him ("Best lunch ever!"). Pam, determined to get the chairs ("I mean, seriously, how is it possible that in five years, I've had two engagement rings and only one chair?") retaliates by flattering Michael's fashion sense and excellent TJ Maxx finds.
- I actually really like this situation in which everyone has to be nice to Michael!
- At the farm, Dwight has put together what appears to be a mock wedding ceremony. He has Andy pretend to be Angela's father and walk her down the aisle to where Dwight is standing, pretending to be Andy. Dwight has solicited the help of Konrad, a man who has been raised in a closed society just minutes from the farm, and who speaks only German as a result. As Dwight walks Angela and Andy through what "will" happen at their ceremony (even producing a twine ring to put on Angela's finger), Konrad keeps up a continuous stream of German.
Dwight: "And that's about it. Man and wife." - Of course, Konrad was really marrying them, and Dwight tricked Andy into signing the marriage license as a witness for Dwight and Angela. When Angela gets upset, Dwight yells, "It's not my fault you don't understand German! I've been telling you to take it for years!"
- Michael leaves the chairs/copier decision up to the security man, Hank. But then he tells him to leave when Hank takes too long with his decision.
- Best part : Angela marching over to Andy, sitting on his lap and kissing him, right in Dwight's face.
Andy: "Was that hot or what?" - Turns out Michael can return the surplus and take a 15% bonus, which he'd like to do because if you go into Burlington Coat Factory with $645, "you are literally a king." Ha!
- Michael tells the staff that they should appreciate what they have. "You think kids in Africa have chairs? No. They sit on big piles of trash. You think they have copiers? They don't have copiers! They don't even have paper."
- Uh-oh. Now Jim will ask Pam to make his copies. . . eeeek.

Any thoughts on "The Surplus"?

This episode was pretty funny! I was wanting some more wedding planning and got the best ever ( Andy keeps stepping in manure"Why is this in the kitchen?!?". When the preacher started talking in German and Dwight made Angela say 'I Do' I totally guessed that he was tricking her into marrying him- such an awesome Schrute thing to do. Also loved Pam fighting dirty to get her chair with the lipstick and telling Michael not to take his butt away!!
1This episode was really funny... one thing that bothered me though: I would be SOOOO upset if I bought my significant other some tiramisu and he dumped it in the trash!! WTF, Pam? and Jim just thought it was sooooo charming.
2I love Jim and Pam in this episode. They're a realistic couple.
Dwight had Angela
too, he was winning, but he messed it up. I don't think he'll get her back now.
3this episode was so messed up!! Dwight tricked Angela into marrying him right in front of Andy?!? Crazy! and I don't think I like the direction Jam is headed... malicious!
4My favorite part was right after Angela threw the twine ring back in Dwight's face- in the background when Mose beans Andy in the head with the basketball. Poor Andy.
Also, I loved when Michael used to lemonade stand analogy to explain to the security guard about the surplus and the security guard says "I know what a surplus is." Classic.
5I loved this episode! It was so funny! So many good lines!
6I loved how stoked Michael was all episode when people were being so nice to him. It was like his best day ever!
7And didn't anyone think it was kind of gross how Andy had JUST taken a bite of tunafish sandwich when Angela gave him the huge kiss? yuck.
All I know is I feel so bad for Andy!
Lilprisci: It actually wasn't a nice thing for Jim to do for Pam (the tiramisu incident) because when Michael is giving his whole "you should just appreciate what you have" speech he goes on to mentioned throwing out perfectly good tiramisu just because you found a HAIR on it, to which Pam looks surprised and angry over at Jim would kinda shrugs.
So yeah, he gave her a hairy dessert. Not so nice, lol.
8One thing I love about this show is the little things ... like both Phyllis' and Creed's screens showing solitaire games and Michael dumping sugar into his Diet Coke.
9I've been waiting for Mose scene this whole season! I loved that he was in the background hitting Andy right in the head with the ball. Poor Andy is so oblivious to life. I knew Dwight was actually marrying Angela when the "fake" ceremony was going on. It was predictable. I wish they would resolve this love triangle asap.
Pam annoyed me in this episode. And what was with her huge boobs? Is she pregnant in real life??
10You know what was pretty hilarious, was when Michael said something about Jim's tiramisu having a hair in it! haha uh oh it seems like it's a battle for control in the relationship!!
11I also liked when Pam was screaming for Michael to show her that ass!
And Stanley opening the door for him, it's so funny to see Stanley trying to be nice to anyone!
I thought this was another great episode. So funny about Burlington Coat Factory and I'm happy they've kept up with more face time for Oscar!
12Loved this episode.
13I thought it was great they used a native German speaker, usually I can hardly understand a word of what "German" characters on TV are saying.
The sugar in diet coke thing cracked me up too!
14I didn't really like this episode. There were a few funny parts but all in all, it was kind of weak. Pam got on my nerves and the Dwight/Angela thing was just ridiculous.
15Did NOT like Pam in this episode. At all. Though it was a nice touch for Jim to get her back in the end. But what the hell kind of relationship is that?!
16Loved the Dwight marriage-tricking. Of *course* he did that.
And, eww, the tuna sandwich kiss which was hi-larious.
I loved this episode. ha.
Michael in the fur coat at the end...hiiiilarious!
17“What have we learned this week? Well, 1, thanks to me, my team is much, much faster at coming to decisions than I thought they would be. #2, Never buy a fur coat with a credit card until you absolutely have the money to pay for it and 3) You should know that some people think it’s cool to throw buckets of fake blood on you as you are walking out of Burlington Coat Factory.”
I didn't like Pam either!
I was thinking the exact same thing about their relationship
18Pam seemed a little out of character to me in this episode. I agree, I loved her hair.
19Dwight is super clever to have Andy pretend to be Angela's stepfather so he could marry her. I loved that scene! I loved Jim's shiver and I loved the beginning when Oscar was trying to explain to Michael what a surplus was.
Smacks83:
The reason for Pam's look was because Michael had taken the tiramisu from the garbage bin - that is the hair had come from the bin not from Jim. Jim was determined to win the game but but he wasn't playing dirty
20Andy gets funnier every episode. Poor guy being in the dark about Angela.
21I loved the Burlington Coat Factory comment Michael said, 'cause it is soo true. Do you know how much stuff you can buy with $645 in that awesome store??
22I thought the whole Pam and Jim dynamic was great...it's fun to see them on opposite sides.
I totally called the Dwight and Angela wedding though. Oh Dwight, if only you had just not been so stupid, you would've won the girl.
23Was I the only one who that Andy stepping on the manure twice was absolutely hilarious, I was hysterical! I also like the whole thing with kissing up to Michael. Pam and Jim are just so cute with their little disagreement, and it was funny at the end when he told her to make the copies for him.
24The most hilarious part for me was when Michael kept choking on the powdered chocolate from his tiramisu. Ha ha!
25Regardless of Pam's great hair, she was kind of annoyong in this episode I thought. And everyone being nice to Michael creeped me out.
I did love Pam's blackmailing Jim though, and then him getting her back in the end.
My favourite bit was Micheal slowly getting lower and lower to the ground on Pam's chair while he was telling the office that they didn't need new chairs.
26annoying*
27I really liked last night's episode...it was so funny! I especially liked Michael's fur coat..
28It's scary to see what mike would be like with friends...too much! Love Jim and Pam in this episode...also love Pam's new confidence this season. She's been upgraded this season...hair, clothes, shoes...loves it!
29Dwight was funny too...
Pam has been bugging me for the past two episodes. I have always disliked Jenna Fischer but Pam never bugged me too much. It great that she has more confidence, but she seems really bossy and malicioius in these current eps. Her 'threatening' Jim was downright creepy!
