CBS and ABC both released their midseason schedules this week, and the CW dribbled out a few little teases, giving us an almost complete picture of what we'll be watching on TV in 2009. It's good news for fans of Reaper and Nathan Fillion, and not such good news for those who love Pushing Daisies or Ashton Kutcher reality shows.
Some of the highlights:
- Castle, Cupid, and The Unusuals all made ABC's midseason schedule. Castle will air Mondays at 10 p.m. starting March 9, Cupid will air at 10 p.m. on Tuesdays starting March 24, and The Unusuals will get the post-Lost time slot of 10 p.m. on Wednesdays starting April 8.
- Harper's Island, which CBS is calling a "13-episode mystery event," will air on Thursdays at 10 p.m. after CSI from April 9 through July 2. It's actually one of the only changes to the CBS schedule; another is that Flashpoint, which aired last Summer, will start its second season Friday, Jan. 9 at 9 p.m.
For a couple of others, including the premiere date for Reaper, just read more.
- Poor Ashton Kutcher. Everyone wants him to make reality shows, but then they either get canceled (ABC's Opportunity Knocks this Fall) or dumped on Saturday night, which is what CBS is doing for his Game Show in My Head. Saturday night! And you thought Friday time slots were bad.
- The CW's midseason plans are still coming together, but here's a definite bright spot: Reaper's second season is scheduled to premiere March 17 at 9 p.m. after 90210.
So, no Pushing Daisies or Dirty Sexy Money on the schedule — but hey, I suppose that if ABC's three new series tank, there's a chance those shows could get another look for next Fall. And hooray for the return of Reaper, which I hope will be just as delightful as it was toward the end of the first season.
What do you make of all this news? Are any of these shows on your radar?

Lets hope those new shows do tank so that Pushing Daisies and Dirty Sexy Money get the second look that they both deserve.
1Yeah for Reaper! I didn't think it was coming back!
2Why is Reaper taking so long?! I miss Sock!
3Im going to miss Pushing Daisies more
Yes! I was so busy I didn't get a chance to watch Reaper properly the first time around...but I hoped it would come back! Huzzah!
I didn't really watch or like any of these other shows very much...Pushing Daisies I hoped was going to stay on, though.
4I'm a huge fan of Nathan Fillion AND Pushing Daisies...why can't I have both, ABC? WHY? Why must you make me happy and sad at the same time?
5Yay! Buzz - Are you provideing revised tv schedule for us to print out. The old one was an awesome reference.
6I LOVE Nathan Fillion - that only sort of fills my Pushing Daisies void ... and boy oh boy I can't wait for LOST
7it HAS to be nerve wrecking to be on a show these days - there's such uncertainty that you just know what to expect. remember when pushing daisies came on last year and there was SO much hype? now it's going away - so it's like the attention span of everyone is just going away so quickly and it's worrisome.
i hope that there's something that's good coming on - not that i'm overly compelled to watch all that TV
8Yipee for Reaper !
9Yay for Reaper
. I've missed that one. Kind of nice that it will pop up when other
shows are winding down, so maybe more people will check it out when their fav is on repeats!
10Pushing Daisies is gone, I'm still upset, but I have to be realistic. The show has no chance of rallying viewers in a third season, considering its viewership is waaaaaay down this season thanks to the great pumpkin and the CMA awards (or whatever award show took up its time slot for its 21 day hiatus).
I do want those three shows to succeed, though. Cupid first and foremost--I have all the faith in the world in Rob Thomas and Eros. I'm afraid for its timeslot, especially considering ABC hasn't had a hit show on Tuesday for years (with the exclusion of Dancing with the Stars). Many good shows are placed on Tuesday by ABC (Carpoolers, Boston Legal, Help Me Help You, Sons & Daughters), but none ever survive.
The Unusuals has such an incredible cast in Adam Goldberg, Harold Perrineau and Amber Tamblyn. It should make a nice companion for Lost, even if it has the 10:00 death slot (which is a universal fail for almost any show not on CBS/whose core audience isn't quickly approaching retirement age).
7 Weeks 'til Lost!!!
