Tuesdays are big in entertainmentville: Not only do all the new DVD releases hit Netflix, but new music also pours into stores, including iTunes. So I take a spin through each week's iTunes music releases and pick out some albums and tracks worthy of a download. Here are today's selections:
Glamorous: This new album from Las Vegas's own glam rock band The Killers goes full speed ahead on the dramatic. While some of the songs are a little . . . much, a lot of the tracks work as danceable rock anthems. I've downloaded "Human," a pulsing epic of a song that I'd like to jog to, and tracks like "Spaceman" and "A Dustland Fairytale" are catchy and even kind of pretty.
A little catharsis with your music: On Kanye West's new album, it's clear his personal life drove his songwriting, making the entire effect kind of sad and reflective. Unlike his previous releases, he sings on every track. It's a departure that's earning him mixed reviews. The New York Times, for example, bluntly states one big issue with the collection: "Mr. West can’t sing, and it is that weakness for which this album will ultimately be remembered, some solid songs notwithstanding." Still, there are a handful of interesting (and very different-sounding) tracks, including "Amazing" and "Bad News."
One more release still to come, so read more.
Bollywood meets hip-hop: As the love for Danny Boyle's film Slumdog Millionaire grows, the more curious about it I've become. Some folks who have seen the movie already have been clamoring to get the tracks featured in the film onto their iPods, including one called "O...Saya," a special collaboration between AR Rahman and MIA. I also really like "Ringa Ringa" and "Liquid Dance."

I downloaded the new Killers album last night. I agree, "Human", "Spaceman" and "Dustland Fairytale" are the best songs. I've been singing along to the first two for weeks now.
1I agree about the Killers, too. I'm a HUGE fan of the band, but I'm disappointed by a lot of their songs. They're good, but a bit cheesy and not as pick-me-up as the previous albums.
2Oh I really want the new Killers album, maybe I'll do a little listen on iTunes first.
Kanye, gotsta get!
3I am also a HUGE Killers fan and their new cd is pretty freaking good, but not their greatest, I listened to it on Sunday on Rhapsody.
4Just so you know...you can download the Killers album on amazon for $3.99. Not too shabby.
5i bought the kanye west album and its pretty good, def. different but different is good. my faves from it are 'street lights' 'see you in my nightmares' and 'heartless'.
6I really want the new Killers album! I'm iffy about Kanye...I usually just buy his singles.
7Thanks for posting this. I have been waiting for the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack since I saw it last week.
