On this week's Gossip Girl, love is in the air for Serena, who is aglow with feelings for Aaron the artist. Also glowing? Eleanor Waldorf! Yes, Blair's mother has become totally smitten with Cyrus, a man Blair imagines to be as charming as Cary Grant ("Maybe a dashing stepdad is just what I need"). And because Blair is turning 18, she's determined to remain as poised as as possible, a la Grace Kelly, and welcome Cyrus with open arms.

Then there are the Humphrey kids, who have, to Rufus's horror, cynically traded their souls away in return for fame and fortune. Jenny and Agnes are in a "business partnership" together and looking for some representation, and Dan is back to writing about "Charlie Trout," to his mentor's great pleasure. Ready to chat? Just read more.
- First of all: How exasperating are both Agnes and Jenny in this episode? Yes, Agnes turns out to be a highly unstable, unreliable friend to Jenny, but jeez, Jenny was very angry last night. She stomps around and screams and cries, and it's just very stressful to watch.
- Agnes sets Jenny's clothing on fire! That was intense and totally crazy. I personally would have wrestled that you-know-what down to the ground to save my blood, sweat, and tears, but Jenny opts for crying.
- And then there's Dan, who's playing with fire in his own way, sneaking around Bart Bass for a story he's suddenly commissioned to write for New York Magazine. The entire time, I was thinking Dan's totally out of his mind to mess with the Bass family — how about you?
- Of course he uncovers controversy in Bart's past via an unnamed source and excitedly tells Rufus it's just like All the President's Men!
- And then there are Serena and Aaron. He texts her maps all the time? And she follows his little maps around and they meet and make out in places all over New York? It's way too shmoopy for me and makes me feel like they're just setting Serena up to fall.
- Then Aaron asks Serena to pose for him. Blair warns that being someone's muse is a bad idea, and Serena points out that Picasso had muses, to which Blair replies, "A guy starts out in his blue period, and everything’s great, but it’s only a matter of time before he's all into cubism and it's some other girl's eye coming out of her forehead."
- And it turns out Aaron has lots of "muses," aka other girls he dates. While I guess he has a point that he would like to see other people, having his ladies overlap like that is just rude. At first Serena says thanks but no thanks to the whole open relationship thing but later decides she's not some stuffy conventional Upper East Sider and hops on board the free-love train.
- She's so free, in fact, that she goes on a date with Aaron in broad daylight in her nightie. Freeing? Or highly indecent? You be the judge.
- I love Blair's response to finding out Aaron has lots of muses: "I would tell you that I told you so but now that I'm 18 I'll refrain."
- Cyrus (played by playwright Wallace Shawn) turns out to be Aaron's father. He also turns out to be a tiny little man and not very dashing in Blair's eyes ("I was expecting Cary Grant and got Danny DeVito!").
- Blair then becomes determined to kick Cyrus out of her and Eleanor's life ("Screw Grace Kelly. I need a scheme. That tiny man must have a big secret.") but ends up bonding with him (he brings her Cyndi Lauper!).

So Dan does the right thing (I guess? I mean, someone died in a fire because of Bart Bass, and Dan's the only one who knows but decides to bury the information. This show sends my moral compass into a tizzy) and Jenny's homeless, again. How many GG episodes will end with sad Jenny schlepping her stuff around the streets of New York with only her eyeliner to keep her warm? Blair respects Cyrus, but he's making himself a little too comfortable in her home, and Serena fancies herself a free spirit. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on last night's episode!

I literally wanted to smack Jenny last night and Agnus. I thought the Aaron thing was a little contrived. Serena is dating him just to rebel against her upbringing...really?!
Loved Blair, love that Bart and Chuck ended up bonding in the end.
1The eyeliner isn't Jenny's problem, it's the black shadow. Seriously girl? Why are you wearing that all the time? Is that the only make-up you know how to do? Who's couch was Jenny sleeping on when she called Mr. Smith [or whatever his name was] towards to end?
Dan makes me LOL but I'm curious as to why he needed info on Bart if the story was about Chuck and his Mom. He still has amazing one liners.
Chuck was looking incredibly young last night and sexy =] Bart was looking rather sunburnt.
Eleanor made me laugh. I was wondering why we weren't seeing more of she and Blair together or at least fighting.
Aaron is gross and a wh*re. Didn't Serena already tell him she wasn't into him being with other girls? He's a loser.
2Oh and the girl who plays Agnes is an AWFUL actress.
3So much to discuss with this episode...
-Chuck begging Dan? NO.
-Bart Bass tearing up because a random obnoxious Brooklyn kid said he did something bad? NO.
-Serena the Upper East Sider seduced by Aaron putting her on a Time Square screen? NO.
-Chuck not showing at Blair's 18th bday party? NO.
-Cindy Lauper showing up at Blair's 18th bday party? Well, actually, her schedule probably isn't very busy these days...
-Using the same Kings of Leon song twice in the same episode? NO.
-Chuck's mom being a picture frame model? Hysterical.
-Serena trying to be edgy by wandering in Central Park in her nightie? Most of her formal tops cover up her boobs more than that (Yale interview, anyone?).
-Teenagers hired by a fashion company and NY Mag? Yeah, right.
Little J is a real pain - either go back home or grow some nerves and grab the dresses from the bin! Can't believe she screamed and cried while Agnes took a good 30secs to get her matches. Eyeliner doesn't make you smart, does it...
4Although it's probably a family thing, since Rufus doesn't really have b*lls either apparently!
INCONCEIVABLE!
Sorry, I just had to get that out of the way...
5Amloveaffair, agreed! Agnes was so uncomfortable to watch!
Forgot to say - don't know if anyone managed to read Dan's writing (when Bart Bass gets the manuscript, I paused to read it) - he's such a terrible writer, I knew it!!
6I think Jenny slept on a couch in her father's art gallery but I have no clue how she managed to get in? Maybe she has spare keys or something?
7UGH, I wish Rufus had smacked Jenny when she came back home demanding he sign her papers.
Aaron is a complete douche, and has the nerve to be fug on top of it! I didnt think Serena's nighty was all that risque, it's actually one of the most covering things she's worn in the last few episodes
Chuck was beyond hot last night, I felt so bad for him when he gave Bart the hockey tickets - but their bonding at the end made up for it a little. I have to say the best part of this episode was no Nate and Vanessa!
8I really don't like the character Jenni has become. She's weak and bratty. Perhaps the plus side is she managed to scare off Nate - I didn't miss him this episode, not one bit!
I really like the kind words between Chuck and Bart. However, we all know somebody's going to die! Poor Chuck
9This episode wasn't that great.
10Mostly because of the focus it had on 'bada** Jenny' and her 'super cool' friend Agnes. That Agnes is the most irritating character they've introduced onto the show. Mainly because she's a horrible actress and her 'i'm so cool cause i talk about xanax and tequila shots' attitude is just not likable.
And that Aaron Rose character isn't a very good actor either. As if any girl would put up with him dating a new girl every single day, especially since he's not even the least bit attractive.
Anyways the parts of this show that I find intriguing always have to do with Blair and Chuck. Not necessarily together but really they do make the show what it is, and I think that they shouldn't focus so much on annoying Jenny and scarf wearing crappy artists.
Highlights of the episode:
- Blair introducing Dorota to Cyndi Lauper
- Blair's interaction with Cyrus (I LOVE Wallace Shawn!)
- Bart coming to Chuck's room in the end (I teared up a bit)
_ Chuck's mom picture
- "I'm Grace Kelly. Grace Kelly is me."
What I didn't get:
- Bart confessing big secret to a random teenager
- This strange guy finding Dan and giving him scoop on Bart. How did he know who Dan was and what was he looking for? For a moment I was sure that Chuck set him up!
- Jenny screaming instead of saving her clothes! It wasn't so much gasoline/fire anyway!
- Serena buying Aaron-Bobby crap
+ I think Blair's real b-day is next week so maybe Chuck will pay his respects then
11Advah, you're so right on quality of Dan's writing. No wonder he has promblems with getting into Yale!
12Yeah, why did Jenny just stand around and cry while Agnes taunted her with the lighter? So unrealistic
13lol Papaver 'aaron-bobby' ahahaha
14Hahaha! Aaron-Bobby, that is perfect!
15Also...Jenny is freaking out because the dresses are her whole livelihood..which took a WHOLE NIGHT to create in the first place! Oh my! Yeah it stinks, but I mean, spend one more night and do it again! It wasn't like she spent years on the collection.
16I agree..I would lay the beat down on Agnus...and the whole running around in a nightie thing with Serena...PLEASE!
17All I could think the entire time that Cyrus was on screen was the "Inconceivable!" scene in Princess Bride. Also, I couldn't help but crack up when Blair kept calling him "that little man."
"Freeing? Or highly indecent?" I vote for highly indecent! Why is it that Serena can't wear anything longer than a shirt lately. She's either got boobs popping out everywhere, or she's begging for gyno exam in broad daylight. Put some clothes on! Also, you can't get all jealous about some guy when you're not even in a relationship yet. And it's not an "open relationship," it's just dating around.
Oh, and I totally would've taken Agnes down. It's not like she came out of the house with the clothes on fire, there was plenty of time to knock the lighter out of her hand and grab the dresses! But then, Jenny is built to be annoying, so why not just cry about it? Also, her scene with her Dad made her seem so loathsome.
18First of all, Jenny had PLENTY of time to save those dresses from the fire. But instead, after watching Agnes squirt the lighter fluid, she just went into this, "What are you doing, you are crazy!" speech instead of instantly grabbing them and seeing "I'm outta here, b*tch!" Director didn't do so well with that one...
Also, Serena in her nighty might have been a bold, free love statement but c'mon, we all know we've seen Serena in a lot less. That red dress she wears to piss off Bart? That one is definitely a contender and she wasn't even wearing a coat with it. I would have given up on Aaron if I was her or at least try to beat him at his own game and make him jealous.
19They never really came out and said that A&S were in an open relationship until the end.
20Oh and I just read some other comments.
Aaron-Bobby is HILARIOUS. Buzz, you must start referring to him as this when you recap!!!
21Advah -
You are so right.
22I love Aaron-Bobby, how appropriate lol. If I was Jenny, I would have caught a case after throwing Agnes into the street! I loved how the Bass men constantly had the same expressions in several scenes, for the first time I have seen any family resemblance between the two. If every ep could be Jenny, Nate, and Vanessa free, I would be happy camper!!!
23I agree that this episode wasn't great. I think it's safe to say that every character but Blair was acting strange/abnormal: Chuck mainly disappeared in this episode and turned too soft, I mean c'mon the guy was reading a book on his bed! Doesn't really seem like the type of activity he would be doing. Maybe he's going soft because he can't have Blair? I guess we'll see. Jenny didn't even try to stop Agnes from burning her clothes, Serena is running around barefoot in her slip through central park, plus the fact that Dan was running the show and showing up the Bass men made me queazy. Blair's bday party was a total non-party, so I hope you're right Papaver and they make up for it next week.
24Eww to Shapiro saying to Dan that "he just grew a pair, don't lose them now."
I totally laughed out loud to Blair's mantra: "I'm Grace Kelly, Grace Kelly is me." So Blair-ish of Blair. Her lines are so fantastic these past episodes. Also the one where Dorota asks her where she's going and she answers, "I wanted a Harry Winston choker for my birthday, instead i got a conscience." And runs after Cyrus.
I'm bummed too that Chuck wasn't at B's 18 birthday party, yeah, maybe next week
I
was so touched by that scene with Bart and Chuck.
And Serena going out in her nighties. I can't help but roll my eyes. First she entertains visitors in her revealing night gown, and in this episode, she actually goes out to frolic in her nighties. Goodness. Even "wildchild" Aaron asked her if she would like to change clothes before they went out! Okay S, we get it, you're a free spirit. LOL. You could totally see the outline of her, er.. panty (y'all know what we're talking about and no it's not about an undergarment) when they were walking and they're going against the wind's direction. Eww.
And my oh my, an upcoming case of emancipation? Wow. I wonder how the next episodes will play out.
25Oh and about the Kings of Leon song Sex on Fire, I am so disappointed they didn't use this song for a love scene between Chuck and Blair. Ed made out with Drew Barrymore (I know, gross) to this song during a live KoL concert, so it's a total ripoff that they wasted it on some lame makeout session between S and Aaron. It's such a great song, they could've at least played it while Chuck and Blair are making out or, I dunno, about to have sex!
26Why didn't Jenny punch/slap Agnes when she burnt her clothes, I got so furious with both Agnes & Jenny, very stressful.
I knew Dan would do right in the end, and yey! Chuck & his pops are going to bond, my Chuck Bass filled heart is bursting.
Love Blair, hilarious storyline, again. I love Blair more & more each episode & she gets more & more beautiful!
Aaron is hot, but him & Serena bore me
27lol I really wanted Jenny to punch her too.
28hehe I was waiting for Blair to scream "Inconceivable!" about Cyrus throughout the entire episode! But nothing! It would've been a funny nod to his famous role.
29I'm so over Jenny! But that's nothing new. I'm also over Serena's choice in wardrobe. I don't care what kind of point you're trying to prove, WHO wears a silk nightie to go skipping through the park with your non-boyfriend?
Loved Blair as usual! And I very much missed Nate's pretty face this episode
30i love blair and hate serena. she cant act and she always has the dumbest story lines. ugh, can someone send her back to a boarding school?
31I can't get past how ugly and gross Aaron is. He ruined the episode for me. And I really missed the Chuck/Blair interaction.
32The whole thing between Jenny and Agnes, was all Jenny's fault! Jenny needed to make it clear at the beginning that she wanted Agnes to be the face of her line, but Agnes was to remain as ONLY a model. By leading Agnes to believe that she could ever possible be a partner or bringing her to interviews was a huge mistake!
But the biggest mistake of this episode was the one Jenny's father made. Turning a child away, how could he ever think he was right?
33He also had the upper hand, the contract was only a barging clip. In parenting no one ever wins, there's a compromise that's found. He could said "I will sign that contract, but from now on until you turn 18. You will live by my rules and everything must be ran by me. If you ever run away again I will call the police." That would have been a lot smarter
Instead of just saying no and letting his daughter go live on the street, I think for that he should have custody taken away!
Hah good point Lizzysau; Chuck doesn't usually read a book on his bed on a lazy sunny afternoon, he hooks up with twins..
TidalWave, I've just read a comment on another website that made me cry from laughing too hard - I thought you'd enjoy it: "Rufus just sitting, playing the guitar, looking like he just got his eyebrows threaded"
This show makes my week.
34Duh. In my comment #4, I actually meant "trying to be edgy by wandering in Central Park in her nightie? Most of her formal tops cover up her boobs *less* than that".
Now I should probably stop procrastinating and go back to job applications..
35Ugh cannot stand Aaron at alllll....he needs to go soon! So sick of Jennys storylines and their taking over the show I once loved. I have not given up on it yet, but they need to make some changes and go back to the characters we all loved, or atleast get some new ones with actual talent!
36Rufus has made a lot of mistakes. I guess I understand how he wouldn't agree with Jenny, but after every she's done, it's obvious that's she very serious (although childish) about her dream, and why can't he relate to that?
Serena + Aaron = another boring relationship
I love finding out more about the Bass family and I'm so glad Bart came around!
37"hehe I was waiting for Blair to scream "Inconceivable!" about Cyrus throughout the entire episode! But nothing! It would've been a funny nod to his famous role."
LOL, agreed. Jenny really bothered me. You're going to be all edgy and run away from home, work on your back hand so when some anorexic druggy model threatens to burn your sh*t you just lay it on her, one time, take your ish and go.
I agree with whoever said Jenny shouldn't have made her think she was an equal partner. They should've at least figured out the details before they went shopping around for backers.
Aaron is so ugh, can't act, not cute, *sshole. He's a loser. And that line about 'I don't know how it is in highschool...' I don't know how it is in college but when you're chasing a girl down as hard as he was chasing Serena, you make it known from the jump that you're going tobe wining and dining other girls. His bang bothers me so much!
Blair was brilliant, I loved her facial expressions through the whole thing, hahaha, like when the Asian girl [who I thought she hated, hello SAT sabotage] was to Serena 'aww, he totally likes you' and Blair just stopped and just looked at her.
38NO Vanessa and Nate! Yay. But the price to pay is to have a lot of Dan. Nay
Blair is always adorable, when she's mean and delivers the funniest lines or even if she's being cute and nice
Plus she always looks amazing and pretty. It's kind funny how Serena was supposed to be the prettiest of all.
Serena and Jenny are both annoying in their own kind of way.
All of you are right, WHY she didn't grab her clothes? I felt like punching my computer for that. Highly annoying. She just switches from being mean to poor little crying girl.
And Serena is really dumb for going out with Aaron. He's just disrespectful all the time. This is not what i call being a free spirit. This is just being naive. She'll get hurt eventually, but i couldnt care less.
39Emmygirl- Love that movie!
This show is a total guilty pleasure for me, but c'mon, Rufus needs to grow a set, and be an authority figure to Little J, and Little J, needs to get over the tantrums, and suck it up, hello she wants to be in the real world, those are real world experiences and not everyone wants to put up with others issues, they have their own. Reality sucks and she can't cry her way out of it- Boo-freakin-hoo!
Even though Blair is nasty- still love her! And loved Cyrus- hes a peach!
40WTF? how did you all see it. it said gg wouldnt be on till saturday?!?!
41You're so right about Nelli Yuki Jammi! I had forgotten about that. Her line was so ridiculously high school, and Blair's face was the perfect withering look.
42Advah - I totally paused to read Dan's story too! The kid sucks, he'd be luck to get into brooklyn community college with that mess, forget Yale! It was like a child writing a school assignment about what the did over the holidays. I knew his writing would suck from the moment he failed to come up with a more creative psyeudonym than 'Charlie Trout' wow, must have taken him all day to think up that one. Bukowski he ain't.
and Mr Hall from Clueless as Cyrus...
43Mr. Hall from Clueless! YES - I couldn't for the life of me remember where I knew him from. THANK YOU!
44Wait! This was on last night? How come my TV had a football game on instead?
When will it be on cwtv?
45OH MY GOD! I'm so jealous, I have to wait till saturday because of Monday night football, not fair.
46Aaron looks like a Guinea Pig. He's got the little face that could be easily photoshopped onto some rodent's body. I HATE HIM. He's totally unnecessary!!!!
47I hated Serena's nightgown. I mean... You're 17! And you're wearing a wedding-night slip all over NY? Where's your mom to tell you that that's wrong?
Love Blair, as usual. Last season I liked Serena+Dan better, but this time around I've become a Chuck-Blair fan. They are great, both together and apart.
Rufus seriously needs counseling on how to be a parent. Especially when your 15 year old girl is running around acting crazy and stupid all over NYC!!!!
Advah -
Poor Rufus...
48I'm super slow... I'm not getting the 'Aaron-Bobby' reference! Anyone care to explain?!
49Okay once again I'm still not interested in Serena's love life. I guess I liked her more when she was trying to be bitcy. And Aaron isn't that interesting either and that sucks because I know he is sticking around for a while. Rufus needs to know that his methods aren't working well.
50To the parts I did love. "I wanted Cary Grant and got Danny Devito." Priceless! I loved Blair and Cyrus probably because I respect him as an actor. Loved him in Clueless.
I also liked the few Chuck moments. This is a child that might be rotten because of neglected caretaking by his father. Sad! And he almost cried, sexy!
