Between her postelection special and her hilarious appearance on 30 Rock, Oprah Winfrey had a pretty huge week last week. But there was one big rumor swirling toward the end of it: that Oprah might quit her talk show in 2011 to focus on starting her TV network.
Oprah's current contract expires in Fall 2011, but her production company, Harpo, said no decision has been made about whether to continue the show beyond that. It's not the first time there have been discussions about the long-running talk show ending: Oprah once said she'd end it in 2006 but obviously changed her mind.
Oprah's show has been around for most of my lifetime, and I honestly have a hard time imagining television without it! How much longer do you think her talk show should go on?

I've never watched an episode of Oprah before, so it doesn't matter to me either way.
1I loved it when real people were on it celebrating positive change in their lives...now it's mostly a marketing tool for A and B listers. I don't personally care for many celebrities at all, so I haven't really watched in years. I just respect Oprah for what she's accomplished overall in her life. If she wants, she can give the show a big send off and let it go.
2it should already be over IMO.
3Oprah does nothing for me. She can end it whenever and my life will go on without interruption.
4I don't watch it at all anymore, so I guess it should have ended already, I just can't imagine her show not being on anymore though.
5I refuse to watch her. And I agree with Mesayme.
I feel like now she has entirely too much power. When she opens her mouth gaggles of women line up to do exactly what she says - and it's not always good.
6I don't have a preference..I don't really feel like it needs to be a big, established thing. It's a freaking talk show, end it when you want to. And don't ever wear that orange dress again, the ruching does nothing for you.
7I never watch it, but I'd say as long as she enjoys doing it and people are actually watching.
8Mmmm I read about her new network. Maybe she should just focus on that; she's got an established reputation already and a very strong, core loyal following of viewers. Regardless of my opinion of her, she seems to have it all - and she works for it herself. I applaud that.
9And as a PS, some of her programming is very interesting and relevant to me.
10This HACK needs to fade into oblivion. She's such a joke.
11When she became more of a guru and less of a talk show host, that's when I stopped watching. It could end now and I wouldn't notice.
12i used to really like her show but i think that now people expect things from her. like her holiday must haves and all that. it's not like it used to be where there were shows about real things. now it's about 'stuff' and celebs more than being her talk show that it used to be.
13its the most powerful and most influential talk show on television. i dont think it should end. she informs the people about very important issues and they listen.
14I used to watch it a lot. I don't like how there's so many celebrities on there all the time so I rarely watch it now. I read enough about celebrities, give me real people on the show!!! I voted 1 or 2 years... I hope the topics get better because that's when I'll start watching again.
15Can't stand her. She thinks she is so much better than everyone. Annoying!
16Even though I hardly tune in I can't imagine daytime TV without her!
17Amazing! When I browsed past this announcement I was preparing myself to read comments edifying Oprah and crying outrage at her show ending. Instead, I am treated to a delightfully refreshing attitude to what I have always thought about Oprahs show. Its a superficial display of overt commercialism and preys upon the insecurities of every demographic by offering up her unsolicited, unprofessional, and unproven advice. From promoting Dr. Phil (who is hardly a doctor), to slinging trendy weightloss diets (who says you need to loose weight to be happy?), to her "Favorite Things" show disgusts me... Although when she sticks to her roots as a talk show host she actually illuminates a lot of important issues and changes lives. She is no longer capable of simply interviewing people and should leave the air.
18Well it can't last for ever
19MicroshipJoe is 1000% correct. Oprah's show has been on most of my life (I'm 30) and I STILL remember the red wagon of fat LMAO. I also do not like O's commercialism and I'm sick of her hawking products and ppl (DR PHIL). Is her show a talk show or an informercial? I was thrilled when the Million Little Pieces debacle blew up in her face and on many levels, as a Black woman I feel both Oprah and her show sold out. O is COMPLETELY unrealistic, as her shows and products often cater to an upper class audience. When I turn on a show now, I'm shocked how few ppl of color (ANY color) are in the audience. I sure as hell can't afford HALF the things she mentions....perhaps its time O re-evalute her luxorious spending in these economic times. Lawd I hope the Obama's "frugality" spreads to her and she decides to work on her network rather than one more "Faveorite Things" epsiode.
20Don't get me wrong, I may TIVO her show if there's a good guest (which will forever go to Tom Crusie, IMO), but other than that, I wouldn't be mad if her show jumps the shark SOON
Sexy, I'll go you one further from that. Up until Obama started running, I thought her show HAD left the air. I honestly thought she was just doing her charity work and running that school. I didn't realize until about a year ago that she was still on. Imagine my disappointment.
21I'm with Mykie and sexy!
22I agree with Mesayme.
23I hardly watch it.I liked a lot better when she had real people on the show.I never watched it back them but at least if I flipped to that channel it would something that may seem some what good.I think it should have been ago a while.I agree sexyNeverLeft78 200%
24I don't watch it, so I don't think would miss it necessarily. However, Oprah was a big part of childhood (because my mom watched it) and I feel like it would be kinda sad for her to go off the air, like it would be the end of an era or something.
25I just cannot watch that show, it is so awful! I thought I was the only one thinking this so it was great to see the votes on this post.
She likes herself too much, there are also way too many commercials (every 5 minutes or so,but maybe this is normal in the US) and the people in her audience are the worst. They actually make it unable to watch it. After every word Oprah says they cheer, scream, clap like she is God and she so obviously likes it. Ugh!
26It should go on until the lady says "Stop!".
27I'm not a huge fan but I don't hate it either.
It's kind of like whatever really
