Just as we're getting a Three Stooges movie for a new generation of moviegoers, The Wizard of Oz will also be reappearing on the big screen — in CG animation. The $25 million project is backed by a French production company and will be based on Frank Baum's original novel.
The Variety article adds, "The English-language adaptation maintains the tale's main characters and settings. Unlike the MGM classic, however, it's not a musical."
On the one hand, with today's animation technology, the possibilities are limitless for what Oz might look like, and that could be awesome. On the other hand, do we need another Wizard of Oz movie? Is this messing with a classic? What do you think?

bah, seriously?! WEAK! killing a classic, i say.
when are they gonna start making NEW movies again???
1Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
2you never know though - it could end up being really good. think about how charlie and the chocolate factory turned out when it was redone, and that movie was a CLASSIC. i'm sure that it won't be as bad as you think. at least that's my hope!
3Hmm...Im interested to check this out. I love the Wizard the Oz and Im inclined to read the book if its going to be based on that more so than the classic that is supposedly to be ruined.
4Don't mess with it! I would however like to see a Wicked movie, since the musical is NEVER playing anywhere near me.
5it might be interesting, but I LOVE the original musical. I agree with FlamesofJune - Wicked needs to be a movie!
6@ilanac13 ... the C&tCF remake was HORRIBLE. bad bad comparison.
7It sounds cool. I love the story so much and want to watch this version for sure.
8Noooo. I see them totally ruining this.
9Dear Hollywood,
Think of something original and stop killing classics.
Peace, love and hair grease,
Ally
10I sometimes like remakes and other times I hate it. If the Muppets redo something it's always good. I also loved Sci-Fi's version of the tale. It was the same idea but not the same story.
11No! No! No! No! No!
12they really should not make a animated version, that would ruin it, and it cud never beat the classic.
13This actually could be interesting...I would like to see a more faithful adaptation to the book.
14I'm 24 yrs old and I grow up loving the wizard of Oz. I am a HUGE fan, and I give props to those that decide to try to remake a classic. In fact I've been wondering why it took them so long to decide to remake it. Here's a thought, if their remaking the Wizard of Oz, they deffinently need to do a remake a the horribly done Disney sequel Return to Oz....PLEASE!!!! (lol). But yeah, I can't wait to see how their ideas on Oz turn out.
