yup... watching too much gossip girl will get you pregnant!
All kidding a side.. some of these teen shows are very racy (and entertaining
).
Many teenagers are getting the wrong idea about casual sex.
1I think the wrong idea about casual sex comes from other sources than TV. And besides, I thought that, oh, I dunno, ignoring birth control was the real problem. Maybe they should show condom ads during teen TV.
2IMO, TV glamorizes sex way too much. Just think of all the popular shows and how much sex (marital affairs, etc.) is promoted. If you make anything appealing to a young child, they'll want it and not even think of the consequences.
3I agree, tlsgirl! Also, was anyone else surprised that "That 70s Show" and "Friends" were slated as having lots of sexual content?
4And another thing...the study makes no sense when you think about causation issues. It really doesn't prove anything. For example, it's entirely possible that teens who are having sex, protected or unprotected, are drawn to more mature programming.
5To be honest, I don't think racy shows are to blame. If teenage girls are feeling pressured to have sex, they're not getting it from racy TV shows, they are being pressured by their boyfriends or friends.
